"She was a painter of light." Film Movement has revealed the official trailer for a documentary film called Obsessed with Light, which will begin showing in art house theaters starting in December. It premiered a year ago at the DOC NYC Film Festival and has been playing at many other festivals ever since then. A film that tells the story of American performer Loïe Fuller, an early pioneer of dance, stage lighting and design. As an innovator of modern dance, Loïe Fuller (1862–1928) created a completely new kind of spectacle which combined dance, fabric & movement. She also pioneered the ingenious use of electricity for the stage, even building a glass floor so that she could be lit from below. This is her story. With the voice of Cherry Jones speaking for Fuller. Her style and techniques on stage have gone on to influence culture in so many ways, along with artists and concerts and more. She took out dozens of patents in the U.S., France and UK. Always struggling against a flood of imitators, she sued in court to protect her copyright as early as 1892.
