Bleecker Street revealed a making of featurette promo for Victorian Psycho, an extra fun & extra wicked Victorian era horror comedy thriller from filmmaker Zachary Wigon. Ready to slice its way into theaters in November coming up in a few weeks. Good film! It first premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival and received solid reviews (read mine here). An entertaining spin on American Psycho (which is brought up in here) but set in Victorian times. In 1858 an eccentric young governess, Winifred Notty, arrives at the remote gothic manor Ensor House. As Winifred assimilates and begins to start her work, staff begin to inexplicably disappear, and the owners wonder if something is amiss with this new arrival... These strange happenings stir suspicion that Ms. Notty not what she seems. Starring Maika Monroe as Winifred Notty, along with a fantastic full cast: Jason Isaacs, Thomasin McKenzie, Ruth Wilson, Evie Templeton, Jacobi Jupe, Amy De Bhrún, Paul Reid, and Katherine Moran. Gorgeous Full US Trailer for Live-Action 'Look Back' About Two Friends

"If you just stick with me, everything'll fall into place for you." GKids has revealed their main official US trailer for wonderful Japanese film Look Back, Koreeda's live-action version of the beloved manga and anime of the same name. This premiered at the 2026 Venice Film Festival (I loved it - here's my full review) and also played at Toronto, London, Busan, Warsaw Film Festivals this fall. The coming-of-age story follows two Japanese girls passionately pursuing their dreams of becoming manga artists. Originally published on Shonen Jump+ in 2021, the manga was a huge success in Japan. Kore-eda's adaptation of Look Back follows the 2024 animated movie of the same name, which was the feature debut of director Kiyotaka Oshiyama (view trailers here). The story follows two manga artists, the brash Fujino and the reclusive Kyomoto, who meet & develop a close bond over making their own manga. This live-action version stars Natsuki Deguchi as Fujino and Aju Makita as Kyomoto; with Furi Nanase & Rokka Okada. The film was shot in Nikaho City in northern Japan. From this tease my guess is that it's going to be like Planet of the Apes and they discover they're in the distant future where Earth is now completely covered with water thanks to climate change. Trippy Trailer for Dutch Horror 'Jimmy' Starring Rick Paul van Mulligen

"Did you know his body was never found?" Dread has revealed the official trailer for an indie horror film titled Jimmy, a Dutch genre creation from filmmaker David-Jan Bronsgeest and writer Tim Koomen. They adapted their own 2018 short film titled Meet Jimmy and turned it into a feature - which first premiered in The Netherlands back in 2024 and is finally getting a VOD release in the US this fall. The horror revolves around convicted killer Jim who uses a true crime podcast to take revenge on a group of friends, and Dilara, who returns to the town following the murder of a childhood friend and suspect supernatural podcast is reeling in more victims. Similar to the other serial killer thriller Red Rooms recently. Home for a funeral, Dilara becomes obsessed with a podcast about a convicted killer, until past and present blur, and the dead begin to speak. 2026 Warsaw Film Festival Recap: These 2 Documentaries Stood Out

Dziękuję! Last weekend I was invited to come over to the capital city of Warsaw, Poland to attend the 42nd Warsaw Film Festival this fall. I've been hearing about this festival and decided to make the trek over to catch up with a few films. WIFF is on the rise as one of Europe's major festivals with a solid fall line-up - complete with government support along with the Polish Film Institute. It's also one of the many prestigious film festivals in Poland ever year with Camerimage, New Horizons, American Film Fest, Splat!FilmFest, etc. I'm lucky I had the chance to stop by and I enjoyed strolling through downtown Warsaw exploring many of the unique venues where screenings take place. One of them is deep underground at the Museum of Modern Art Warsaw (KinoMuzeum), another was located at the top of the tallest building in the city (Varso). Many screenings were at the vintage Kinoteka cinema located inside Warsaw's Palace of Culture and Science – the famous Soviet-era building that is now the symbol of the city located right in the middle of everything. I spent a few days at WIFF watching around 8 films (I've seen many at other fests). This premiered at TIFF last year and is getting a small theatrical release this fall before it's streaming. Ghanaian filmmaker Chris Hesse served as the personal cameraman to the first president of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. In 1966, at the onset of a CIA-backed coup, Nkrumah was removed from power, and the footage that Hesse had spent a decade capturing was burned. All was lost. Or so they thought... For decades, Chris Hesse has preserved over 1,000+ reels of Ghana's liberation story — marking it as the single largest existing archive detailing Ghana's liberation story. Yet unseen by the public, these films may not only rewrite Ghanaian and African history — but world history itself. WIFF Review: Hans Petter Moland's 'Growth of the Soil' Set in Norway

"We can do it." "We did it." Another film flying under the radar at fall film festivals this year is a Norwegian naturalistic film titled Growth of the Soil, based on the book of the same name by acclaimed Norwegian director Hans Petter Moland (of The Beautiful Country, When Bubbles Burst, In Order of Disappearance, Out Stealing Horses). It first premiered at TIFF and I caught up with it at the 2026 Warsaw Film Festival. It's one of many new films that I've seen recently about women being given a chance to find their freedom & agency in a patriarchal world. Moland's movie seems to be Norway's version of Godland (about surviving in harsh nature) + Train Dreams (about a simple man witnessing the changes of society during the 20th century), with a dash of A Different Man thrown in during the second half as well. Pretty good overall. Utterly gorgeous to look at, every single frame. One of these films where I think how did they shoot this?! I am in awe. Did they build that little house from scratch? Did they walk up a mountain every day to film it? How did they make it all so authentic with all the old clothes and tools and untouched land? I would love to live on Matcha Mountain, too! Look at this beautiful place. Plus endless match lattes? Yes please. The latest must see animated short film coming out of the prestigious animation school Gobelins in Paris is this one titled Matcha Mountain. (We also recently posted Direction les Champs as well.) Made by a collection of six students at the school as their graduation project, this one features a very soft, lovely, colorful 2D style. Here's the official intro: Granny lives alone on Matcha Mountain. She rescues an injured balloon dog, addicted to matcha desserts by chance. (Of course–just like me, too!) Something begins to stir, and danger slowly creeps toward their fragile happiness... This is a dialogue free animated short that runs only 6 minutes and it's entirely worth a watch. GKids has revealed an official trailer for the movie called 5 Centimeters Per Second, another new live-action anime adaptation this year. Hirokazu Koreeda just made his own live-action version of the anime Look Back, which recently premiered (and it's amazing). The original 5 Centimeters Per Second anime film, directed by Makoto Shinkai, originally opened back in 2007. This live-action version is very similar, basically another shot-for-shot update. In the movie, Takaki tells the story of his life as changing times test his romantic feelings. The poignant exploration of growing up and past connections is brought to life this time by director Yoshiyuki Okuyama. 5 Centimeters Per Second is a remarkably beautiful tribute to the way mere moments can come to define our lives. This version stars Hokuto Matsumura as Takaki, Mitsuki Takahata, Nana Mori, and Mai Kiryû. This is a very simple trailer but it teases the vibrant style and story taking us through all these moments in Takaki's life that are so important to him. Amazon MGM has debuted the second trailer for Ali G: Who Iz I?, the surprise comedy sequel from comedian / actor Sacha Baron Cohen. He brings back the OG character that launched his career - Ali G, a "faux-streetwise poseur" from the UK who first appeared in 1998 and was the basis for his Da Ali G Show in the early 2000s (before he made Borat). The first trailer debuted a few months ago during the summer. This second trailer also brings back his other famous Kazakh character Borat, who is commenting on this movie and the controversy of it being "racist". He also introduces two other new characters that appear in this movie – one is an Israeli soldier, the other is an amusing "libtard" trying to get this movie cancelled. "Yo, dis prick Borat wiv an even bigger tache dan me Nan iz talkin smack bout me movie." A weird trailer that isn't even about the movie, it's commenting on how people are commenting on the movie! Epic Pictures revealed the official trailer for an indie sci-fi fantasy creation called The Renaissance of Oddity Todd, an ambitious indie project made by filmmakers Noah Marks. He's also a VFX artist and went all out in crafting this world and telling this unique story. "All things vibrate." When the Sonus, masters of vibration, are hunted by the relentless World Collective, only a Sonus with a cryptic past can save humanity from a dark reckoning. What kind of powers does he have with these vibrations? Kind of looks like Neo in here. The film stars Franko Cruz as Todd, Darrin Hickok, Tamara Fay, and Piper Verbrick. Very unique concept. The longer explanation adds: In a world governed by the authoritarian World Collective, Sonus are a secretive order of scholars whose study of Vibrational Energy grants them supernatural abilities. When a mysterious event draws the World Collective's attention to their existence, the Sonus are forced into hiding, but Todd will fight back.
