New Trailer for French Animated Film 'Muyi' About a Girl and a Mask

"I see my new life." Gebeka Films in France has revealed the first official trailer for a new French animated film titled Muyi, set in China about a young girl and the tale of the "Handsome General". The full French title is also Muyi, la légende du village des femmes (Muyi, the legend of the village of women), and it's directed by the animation filmmaker Julien Chheng, also known for "The Spy Dancer" story from Star Wars: Visions. This new animated film is about Muyi, a fearless young girl who lives on a Chinese secluded mountain in a mysterious village where men are forbidden. On the Day of the Dead, a traveling opera troupe performs the famous play "The Handsome General". But the intriguing play awakens old secrets and quickly brings chaos to the village after she tries on the mask. Featuring the voices of Lucie Zhang as Muyi, Jean-Stan Du Pac, Guillaume Bouchède, Yumi Fujimori, Colette Venhard, and Astor Chheng. She manages things as best she can, finding fuel and comfort in alcohol. As she embarks for an 8-year journey of life changes, she drinks more and more. Until death seems to loom. Starring Adèle Exarchopoulos as Garance & Sara Giraudeau as Pauline, with Rudgy Pajany, Raya Martigny, Mathilde Roehrich, Sara-Jeanne Drillaud. Prima Facie follows Tessa, an ambitious defense lawyer. She expertly represents her clients, including those who are accused of sexual assault. However, she learns the law does not provide justice after being sexually assaulted by a coworker. Starring Cynthia Erivo as the barrister Tessa Ensler. TIFF adds: "Backed by a magnificent supporting cast that includes Daniel Ings, Elizabeth Dulau, and Simon Russell Beale, Erivo is at once devastating and inspiring in this dauntingly complex role. 'Prima facie' is a Latin expression meaning 'based on first impression,' and this hard-hitting, intelligent film shows just how unreliable initial assessments can be." Venice 2026 Recap - 6 Worthwhile Films to Watch From the Festival

"He should be my film's protagonist." Time for a final recap. Each year, I am lucky for the opportunity to return to the splendid city of Venice in Northern Italy to attend the Venice Film Festival and catch the latest films premiering there. Unfortunately the selection at Venice 2026 was a huge disappointment - there were so few good films to talk about, that I can only really highlight these 6 films below worthy of being watched. The last few years were much better, but this year not a single film wowed me. This was my 10th year returning to Venice, and I'm always happy to be back, no matter how the films turn out (good or bad – it's fun to be there and watch everything). In total, I viewed 32 films during Venice this year. The Golden Lion winner (Woman Unknown) was not one of my favorite of the fest by a long shot, however the Grand Prix runner up Possible Love is the one that actually should've won instead. I'm depressed by just how bad the line-up was! Nonetheless, I still want to mention my 6 favorites from Venice 2026 anyway. But Hollywood will always have problems, problems that can only be solved with Cliff's unique (occasionally extralegal) abilities. "After a few days, you won't want to leave." Film Movement revealed a new trailer for the 4K restoration of this 1991 Chinese classic titled Raise the Red Lantern. One of the early films in acclaimed director Zhang Yimou's oeuvre (his 4th feature at the time), this premiered at both the Venice & Toronto Film Festivals in 1991 before opening in the US in 1992. "As visually striking as it is dramatically effective," Zhang's Oscar-nominated Raise the Red Lantern sumptuously captures 1920s China while "subtly exploring the politics of power & control." A young woman becomes the fourth concubine of a wealthy man and soon realizes there's fierce competition for his attention & associated privileges. Starring Gong Li, Ma Jingwu, He Saifei, Cao Cuifen, and Jin Shuyuan. The 4K restoration of Raise the Red Lantern was carried out by the Udine Far East Film Festival on the occasion of its 26th edition. The original image & sound negatives were used under the supervision of Director Zhang Yimou. The vintage positive copy, shown at the 1991 Venice Film Festival and preserved at Venice Biennale's Historical Archive of Contemporary Arts, was used for color reference. Venice 2026: 'Too Much Sugar' Depicts the Real Power of Storytelling

"Ryan and I share a basic desire to correct the mistakes of our deadbeat fathers and stop the generational hurt by being good fathers ourselves." Watching films every single day and recommending films for a living has made me rather unsure if cinema is actually having the positive impact that we all want to believe it is. Are people really changing after watching new films? Are they actually learning more about the world? Are they really growing & evolving after they experience new perspectives from other people? Thankfully there is one film that is capturing this change happening. Too Much Sugar is a unique documentary hybrid film created and directed by American filmmaker Robert Greene. It just premiered at the 2026 Venice Film Festival in the Orizzonti section though it really feels much more like a Sundance film through and through. It's a clever meta filmmaking concept about addressing toxic masculinity by having two manly papas from a small town in Missouri confront themselves by making a film about themselves and their families. Laika has revealed the second & final official trailer for the movie called Wildwood, their next epic stop-motion animation adventure movie landing in theaters in October this fall. Just over a month left! They've been developing it for years and it's finally ready and it looks incredible. An expansive, emotional, wondrous adventure into the woods - with the same scale as Lord of the Rings. After multiple featurettes, behind-the-scenes looks, and other trailers, this one gives us the most emotional intro ever. The main character of Prue was revealed in a 2024 first look – Prue McKeel (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and her friend Curtis are drawn into a hidden, magical forest near Portland, Oregon after Prue's baby brother Mac is kidnapped by crows and a mysterious woman. The voice cast includes Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan, Awkwafina, Jemaine Clement, Charlie Day, Jake Johnson, Amandla Stenberg, Tom Waits, Richard E. Grant, and Mahershala Ali as Brenden, the Bandit King of Wildwood. I can't wait for it! I want to stop and stare at every frame in this. This is the story of one man and his non-stop life and how time controls us all. Off-Time is an exceptional 10-mimute hand-made animated short film made entirely by Ukrainian animation artist Nata Metlukh. Made over many years, finally completed and ready to enjoy. She originally began working on this project back in the early 2020s with some assistance from Hiroshima Artist-in-Residence. A data engineer rushes through life, believing multitasking saves time—but it only creates chaos. (But of course...) Despite his strict control over time, nothing gets done: his home is a mess, work overflows, and breakfast is always burnt. He discovers joy in life only when time breaks apart. This is certainly a feeling we're all extra familiar with right now, especially in the hustle bustle of today's world and peak burnout culture. I love how every single frame is a gorgeous scene, every part of it's so detailed and unique. And it runs a full 10 mins, flying beyond the initial premise. Crazy Teaser Trailer for French Body Horror 'Mutation' aka 'Sanguine'

Noori in Korea has revealed the first look teaser trailer for the French body horror film titled Sanguine (meaning "having a positive attitude and expecting a good outcome"), which is being translated into English as Species, though it's also going under the title Mutation in Korea. It's being described as "The Substance for the Burnout Generation" and it also comes directly from this year's Cannes Film Festival line-up. After starting in Cannes, it's playing at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) in Korea and will hit theaters in November there. Margot, a young intern at the most competitive hospital's ER in the country, has trouble keeping up in this stressful environment. As she’s confronted with multiple patients her age presenting unusual symptoms, her own body starts to show disturbing changes...
