Jury Members Thriller 'Wildcards' Trailer with Leon & Courtney Grace
"We're not held to the same standard as people who don't look like us." Blacklight has debuted an official trailer for the movie Wildcards, a court room thriller made by Wes Miller. This is out in theaters soon and will be touring around the US with Q&As and more, to engage the audience in a conversation about the film. Contrasting jurors debate evidence intensely as deliberations unfold. An enigmatic Wildcard witness arrives, claiming truth about the night, sparking turmoil. Her ties to the accused raise questions of bias and justice. Shot in real time, every day, the piece follows the trial of Theodore Sterling, a privileged young man accused of sexually assaulting a young Black woman. The case takes a shocking turn with the arrival of a mysterious "wildcard" witness who claims to know the truth—threatening to upend the entire trial. This stars Leon, Elise Neal, Aries Spears, Stakiah Lynn Washington, Crew Morrow, Samantha Walkes, Robert Catrini, and Courtney Grace (the news anchor from the end of Disclosure Day). Looks interesting but I'd also recommend Clint Eastwood's Juror #2 instead, if you want to watch a compelling modern jury thriller. // Continue Reading ›

Epic Trailer for Animated 'Golden Axe' Series Based on the 80s Game
"We're going to do what we do best – face a series of progressively harder enemies until we have a big final battle with Death Adder." Paramount+ debuted their full trailer for the animated series titled Golden Axe, an 80s throwback fantasy action epic series about a group of warriors. This is a new adaptation of the old SEGA video game called Golden Axe (or Battle Axe), which first premiered in 1989 for the Sega System 16B (eventually in arcades). In a hilarious homage to SEGA's game, Golden Axe the series follows legendary warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare and Gilius Thunderhead as they reunite to save Yuria from the evil giant Death Adder, who just won't seem to stay dead. Their quest is flipped by Hampton Squib, an inexperienced & wildly underprepared young adventurer whose dream of heroism far exceeds his abilities. Forced together despite their flaws, they must find a way to stop Death Adder. Featuring the voices of Matthew Rhys as Gilius Thunderhead, Lisa Gilroy as Tyris Flare, Danny Pudi as Hampton Squib, Liam McIntyre as Ax Battler, Carl Tart as Chronos 'Evil' Lait. I have no idea how this got greenlit! It looks fun but entirely out of place next to many of today's animated shows out there. Maybe they hope it'll stand out & some will watch? // Continue Reading ›

Jermaine Fowler in Peculiar Sci-Fi Thriller 'Terrestrial' Official Trailer
"A chance to reunite with his old friends..." Aero Films has revealed an official trailer for the intriguing lo-fi sci-fi indie film titled Terrestrial, made by filmmaker Steve Pink. The name is an Earthly spin on the term "extraterrestrial" but without the "extra" that indicates not from Earth. The film first premiered at the 2025 Fantasia Film Festival last year and opens in select US theaters this October. During a weekend reunion, a rising sci-fi author welcomes 3 college friends to his home, but eerie events begin to blur the lines between reality & imagination. Jermaine Fowler stars as the author Allen, about to hit it big with a book & movie deal, but something seems very weird about him. He's obsessed with "The Neptune Cycle" sci-fi books & the aliens in them. The cast includes James Morosini, Pauline Chalamet, Edy Modica, Rob Yang, & Brendan Hunt. New Trailer for 4K Restoration of 'Kwaidan' - Quartet of Ghost Stories
"Even if you cry out, there's no one who can help you." Janus Films has unveiled their official trailer for a new 4K restoration of the Japanese horror classic Kwaidan, originally released in theaters worldwide way back in 1965. It played at the 1965 Cannes Film Festival and was also released in the US by Continental that same year. Kwaidan is a Japanese horror anthology film featuring four supernatural segments all directed by Masaki Kobayashi. This consists of four separate stories adapted from Lafcadio Hearn's collections of Japanese folktales, including two from his 1904 book Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things, the film's namesake. Set mostly in feudal Japan, the stories feature vengeful spirits enforcing moral retribution, while portraying the supernatural realm as largely indifferent to human suffering. The film stars Tatsuya Nakadai, Tetsurō Tamba, Yoichi Hayashi, Katsuo Nakamura, Rentarō Mikuni, and Keiko Kishi; no actors appear in more than one segment. This new 4K re-release version is based on the original 3 hour cut, not the Cannes version that was a slightly shorter 161 minutes. This final version is 183 minutes in total. Reviews describe it as: "a rare, hermetic beauty, full of ethereal images and errant ideas that will haunt the mind." One of the most incredible horror films ever! Review: 'Down the Arm of God' is a Chilling True Story from Texas
"Our God is an awesome God! He reigns from heaven above, with wisdom, power and love..." But will his followers preach that same love to all? Will they follow the teachings of Jesus and take care of the poor and vulnerable, just like he did? Some Christian Americans might answer these questions with an emphatic: no. This is a tricky topic to talk about and even trickier to depict carefully & accurately in a film. It's not trying to ruffle feathers, it's meant to share an honest story about how bigoted people can be nowadays. I'm glad this film not only nails the depiction, it does so with grace and humility and understanding and courage. And with heaps of authenticity, which is mighty important telling this story. Down the Arm of God is a film starring and produced and co-written by Caleb Landry Jones, who worked with Austrian filmmaker Peter Brunner for 5 years to research, develop, prepare, and shoot this film. It just premiered at the 2026 Locarno Film Festival, where a few of Brunner's films have shown before, and I hope it reaches audiences will beyond the fests. Above all, this needs to be seen by Americans. It's a conversation starter, something to make you think, not provide specific answers – make you wonder how we can better take care of all people. // Continue Reading ›

The Bluey Movie is getting a slight upgrade turning them into 3D animated characters (with the same look) rather than the original 2D version. As part of the final promotion, poster archive site Posteritati has debuted a video featuring of actor Matthew McConaughey and director Andrew Patterson visit their office to discuss posters. It ends with them talking about the design of the official poster for Amziah King (designed by artist Rory Martinez) but the rest of the time they discuss some of their favorite classic movie posters. Which is actually pretty cool to see cause McConaughey is also in there geeking out about all this artwork. The other posters they feature are for Spielberg's Jaws, 1933's King Kong, Leone's For a Few Dollars More, PTA's One Battle After Another. This is the second video so far from Posteritati borrowing the Criterion Closet concept - the first was with My Father's Shadow director Akinola Davies Jr. I'm really enjoying these videos more & more, because it's not just about new poster artwork, it's about what makes the classic designs so timeless and evocative. Official Trailer for 'Dugout Dads' Series - 'The Sandlot' Spiritual Sequel
"When your a kid, baseball is your life..." ⚾️ Hambino Media revealed their official trailer for a series titled Dugout Dads, which will be out for streaming later this month via YouTube. The series is basically the real legacy sequel to the classic 90s summer movie The Sandlot (one of my all-time faves) bringing back many of the original actors for a follow-up baseball comedy. But it's not actually a real sequel (they did make a few direct-to-video ones anyway but those don't count). It's created and developed (and stars) the actor Patrick Renna, who played "Ham" (aka "The Great Hambino") in the original film. Renna states (via GeekTyrant) that they've been thinking about an actual sequel but it never came together: "They were toying with doing a sequel, and it's tough because it's not like taking the actual original IP and trying to better it, because to do that is impossible. First Look Teaser for 'If I Go Will They Miss Me' Acclaimed Indie Film
"They called him Poseidon... He was buff, and he had muscles, and he was the strongest ever." Rich Spirit revealed a first look teaser trailer for the highly acclaimed indie film titled If I Go Will They Miss Me, the second feature by filmmaker Walter Thompson-Hernandez. This received lots of stellar reviews at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, one of the most acclaimed indie discoveries showcasing very distinct filmmaking. This intro is the best: "Expanded from an award-winning Sundance short, Thompson-Hernández infuses empathy in this lyrical feature about a sensitive boy in Watts who constructs a mythological imagination for his family, contrasting sharply with their complicated reality." This stars Danielle Brooks, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Bodhi Dell as Lil Ant. In Watts, California, a 12-year-old boy attempts to connect with his distant father following his incarceration while sensing mysterious visions, from airplanes and Greek gods, that seem to follow him through his everyday world. Wacky Comedy 'The Musical' Trailer Feat. Will Brill & Gillian Jacobs
"Do we really want to do the same play that every other school does?" Blue Harbor Ent. has unveiled the first official trailer for The Musical, an indie comedy from the 2026 Sundance Film Festival earlier in the year. One of two new films at Sundance that are about very awkward, inappropriate musicals being put on in school (the other is Run Amok). This one involves a teacher getting revenge on his principal by creating the most WTF production (just wait until you find out what it is). Convinced he's destined for bigger things, frustrated playwright Doug is stuck teaching middle-school theater while dreaming of New York. But when he finds out his ex-girlfriend has started dating his nemesis, the school’s principal, he hatches a plan to ruin the principal's reputation by secretly producing the most unacceptable play imaginable. Starring Will Brill as Doug, with Gillian Jacobs, Rob Lowe, Cayden Romero, Michael Strassner, and many other kids. This is the kind of wacky, borderline-offensive comedy they don't make often anymore, but the humor won't connect with everyone. If you do think this looks funny, then don't miss this when it hits theaters in the fall. // Continue Reading ›

Gibney's Doc 'Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie' Trailer
"It's a story in which hatred is finally overcome... by love." Abramorama has unveiled the official trailer for a documentary film titled Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie, from doc mastermind Alex Gibney. It premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to mostly good reviews, but that's usually the case with Gibney's films. Knife offers an intimate portrait of author Salman Rushdie in the aftermath of the 2022 knife attack that nearly took his life. More than 30 years after Iran issued a fatwa calling for his death over The Satanic Verses, Rushdie traveled to Chautauqua, New York, to speak about the US as a sanctuary for exiled writers & artists. He was attacked on stage, with life-altering injuries, including the loss of sight in one eye and nerve damage. The doc provides an unprecedented inside look at Rushdie’s recovery & life after the attack, including never-before-seen footage captured by his wife, acclaimed poet & writer Rachel Eliza Griffiths, alongside Rushdie's own candid reflections on survival, creativity, love, and finding a way forward after an act of violence that fundamentally changed his life. It's adapted directly from Rushdie's memoir "Knife: Meditations After an Attempted Murder" – the doc film moves beyond the attack itself to explore his return to writing, his resilience, and his determination to continue creating despite the threats he has faced for decades. A powerful doc about survival and above all else the freedom of expression. // Continue Reading ›

"In a forgotten town, the curse never sleeps..." 🌳 Mij Film has revealed the first official trailer for the indie horror film titled Trees are Watching, made by Kurdish filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi as his latest feature. This eerie, mysterious eco horror film stars Eva Green and will premiere at the 2026 Toronto Film Festival this fall as one of their major festival world premieres. This looks extra creepy and strange! With a haunted wooden chair. Novelist Darya returns to her hometown with her deaf daughter to work on her new book. There she is haunted by the memories of twin girls from her childhood, and the two trees planted as their memorials, the only that remain among mass deforestation. The film stars Eva Green & Murat Yildirim, along with child actors. TIFF explains: "Across surreal set pieces that ebb with heightened phantasmagoric stylization and sometimes full-blown Grand Guignol spectacle — particularly in a thrilling sequence that recalls the American Final Destination series — Ghobadi conjures a unique flavour of terror, enriched with nuanced philosophy and a deeply personal dimension." Jon Hamm & Giovanni Ribisi in 'American Hostage' 70s Series Trailer
"This is more than just a hostage situation..." Amazon MGM Studios has revealed the full official trailer for a new series called American Hostage, ready for streaming on MGM+ starting this September. This is the exact same story told in the movie Dead Man's Wire, which played in theaters earlier this year (and it's very good). The series instead focuses the camera on radio host Fred Heckman, who was portrayed in Gus Van Sant's film by Colman Domingo (as "Fred Temple" instead in that version). It's a true story! This really did happen. Based on the podcast, American Hostage is a psychological thriller set in the 1970s that tells the fascinating story of Fred Heckman, a beloved Indianapolis radio reporter who's thrust into the middle of a life-or-death crisis when the bitter hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed on his popular radio news program. Starring Jon Hamm as Fred & Giovanni Ribisi as Tony Kiritsis, Mireille Enos, William Jackson Harper, Kristoffer Polaha, & more. First Teaser for James Gray's NYC Film 'Paper Tiger' with Adam Driver
"It's New York. Everyone's on the take all the time." Neon has revealed the first look teaser trailer for the film Paper Tiger, the latest NYC drama created and written and directed by filmmaker James Gray (We Own the Night, Ad Astra, Armageddon Time). This premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival playing in the Main Competition, though reviews were quite mixed (here's mine). The story follows two brothers who pursue a lucrative business opportunity in 1980s Queens (involving the Gowanus Canal), only to find themselves caught up in a scheme involving the Russian mafia, which ends up terrorizing their suburban family and puts their own sibling bond to the test. Adam Driver stars as Gary Pearl, the older brother and a former cop, who now is a fixer around the city. Miles Teller co-stars as Irwin, Gary's younger brother. His wife Hester is played by Scarlett Johansson, with Gavin Goudey & Roman Engel as their sons. Also featuring Victor Ptak as Simeon Bogoyavich, an intimidating Russian mob boss. Neon drops this into theaters in November after playing at a few more festivals this fall, including a homecoming at NYFF. Good film! I'm a fan of it even though it's not the best of the year, Driver's complexity makes it all the worthwhile. // Continue Reading ›

Anya Taylor-Joy & Chris Evans in Eco Warriors Movie 'Sacrifice' Trailer
"Only you can save the world..." DCM in Germany has revealed an official trailer for the movie Sacrifice, an especially provocative eco-warrior thriller from French filmmaker Romain Gavras as his first English-language creation. This originally premiered at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival one year ago to completely divisive reviews - some hate it, some think it's okay, some dig it; all over the map (here's my thoughts). At an elite fundraising gala, celebrities and socialites find themselves in danger when armed activists storm the venue in pursuit of a legendary relic that could unlock supernatural powers. This film stars Anya Taylor-Joy as an eco-warrior who takes hostage this special rich person event held at a marble mine. "Thought-provoking, visually arresting, and powered by a kinetic original script co-written with Will Arbery (also of Succession), Gavras' Sacrifice is a satirical action-adventure and visually explosive epic led by a magnetic star-studded ensemble." The cast features Anya Taylor-Joy as Joan, Chris Evans as Mike Tyler, Salma Hayek, Vincent Cassel, Sam Richardson, Yung Lean, Ambika Mod, Charli XCX, as well as John Malkovich. One helluva cast! This is an extra bonkers, extremely ambitious, totally wild film that even if it doesn't all work, still deserves our admiration for existing and being this bold and crazy. This 'Bingebuster' Website Recreates a Virtual Blockbuster to Peruse
Time to step into the past! 📼 Venture back into the ol' Blockbuster video store and choose your movie to watch tonight. A brand new website called "Bingebuster" has launched as a fun virtual experience. Instead of just recreating the Blockbuster video experience digitally, they went a step further and actually made this a functional experience. The website syncs with various streaming services (Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, Disney+, Apple TV, Tubi, ITVX) to display actual movies that are available to watch directly on the online shelves as if you were browsing & choosing there. I remember doing this! The whole point is to recreate that nostalgic, lost-in-time experience of driving down to the nearest Blockbuster (or Hollywood Video or a local rental shop) Friday night and browsing the shelves and deciding then what to watch that night. This might really help with the streaming choice overload that so many people feel. It's organized just like Blockbuster - by genre along with new releases. You can even re-sort and filter as well. This is also made by the same guys who created the virtual Criterion Closet collection website called The Closet (check it out too). More below. // Continue Reading ›

Javier Bardem & Victoria Luengo in Spanish Film 'The Beloved' Trailer
"It's a story about betrayal, a story about abandonment." Madman Films has unveiled a new official trailer for the film titled The Beloved, originally known as El ser querido in Spanish, which initially premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival a few months ago. A new film by acclaimed director Rodrigo Sorogoyen (Stockholm, May God Save Us, The Candidate, Mother, The Beasts). Described as this year's Sentimental Value because the premise is quite similar - it's about an iconic filmmaker father trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter, who is also an actress. However, this film spends more time on set (in the Canary Islands) where he's shooting a new film which is thematically similar to the fractured relationship he has with her. Javier Bardem stars as Esteban Martínez, a famous filmmaker working on a new film. Victoria Luengo co-stars as his daughter Emilia, an unsuccessful actress. They reunite on a film shoot, confronting their strained relationship and many unresolved past issues that neither wants to address directly. This new trailer features many quotes from Cannes reviews along with a more melancholic & sad tone to capture the heartbreak between these two despite their attempt to come together and figure it all out. This first premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival where it earned some top notch reviews and won the L'Œil d'or Best Documentary award at the fest.
