"Delicate and full of light." Icarus Films has relaunched the official US trailer for an award-winning French film titled The Ties That Bind Us in English, originally known as L'attachement in French. This family drama directed by Carine Tardieu just won the top prize Best Film at the César Awards in France this week - France's equivalent of the Academy Awards. A major victory for this little film about family life in France. It first premiered in 2024 at the Venice Film Festival but barely got a US release at all. L'attachement explores the challenges of modern family structures – the film follows a single father, a feminist librarian and a child seeking a place to belong as they navigate love and desires. It questions what it means to be a family. In The Ties That Bind Us, Carine Tardieu's gently observed adaptation of Alice Ferney’s novel L’Intimité, she explores the many forms that love & parenthood can take, portraying how grief and intimacy can transform the ways in which people choose — and learn — to create a family. Starring Valeria Bruni Tedeschi as Sandra Ferney, Pio Marmaï as Alexandre "Alex" Perthuis, Vimala Pons as Emillia Demetriu, Raphaël Quenard as David. This lovely film looks like a tender, wholesome story of one family's love for each other. // Continue Reading ›
