Official US Trailer for 17th Century Drama 'Rose' Starring Sandra Hüller

"In the village, they call him the soldier." Mubi revealed the new official US trailer for Rose, an acclaimed German film shot in B&W made by the Austrian filmmaker Markus Schleinzer. This originally premiered at Berlinale 2026 earlier this year, and it also played at Telluride and New York, with Vancouver, London & Chicago up next. It already debuted in Germany in April but won't open in the US until December - trying an awards season release. It's Austria's official entry to the 99th Academy Awards. The extraordinary German actress Sandra Hüller stars as a woman in the early 17th century, who arrives in a village disguised as a man and tries to be a good citizen at any cost. NYFF adds: "this meticulously detailed historical drama about a woman's drive toward self-empowerment elegantly dramatizes the two-sided coin of human nature—the striving for personal freedom we all crave and the narrow-minded bigotry that stands in our way." Everyone is talking about how great Sandra is in this film. "Every life, every day is a political act — so we cannot hide," states Schleinzer, who's queer.
