Official Trailers for 'Extremely Unique Dynamic' Triple-Meta Comedy
"You're a bad friend!" "You don't talk to me!" Will they figure it out and make a movie? Heroic Impact has unveiled a second official trailer for an indie comedy gem called Extremely Unique Dynamic, made by a trio of California filmmakers. This premiered earlier in 2024 and has played at a few festivals including Vancouver, Catalina, Sonoma, and the San Francisco LGBTQ+ Film Festival this year. During their final weekend together, two best friends test the limits of their friendship while making a triple-meta film. What does it mean? What is a triple meta film? You gotta watch to find out! In this (likely) first-ever and (maybe) award-winning Meta-Asian-Stoner-Coming-Of-Age-Bromantic Dramedy, bottled-up secrets emerge as best friends decide to make a movie... about two guys making a movie... about two guys making a movie. Starring Harrison Xu, Hudson Yang, Ivan Leung, Nathan Doan, and Valerie Yu. This looks smart and funny and clever, a nice new twist on the usual meta "movie-within-a-movie" concept. Yep I'm down to watch this. // Continue Reading ›

SOS Message Teaser for Prepares US For '28 Years Later' Zombie Sequel
SOS! Zombies are back! The Rage virus has return! Alert, alert. Sony Pictures has revealed a surprised secret teaser for the upcoming 28 Years Later horror sequel - arriving in theaters June 2025 next summer. It's once again being directed by Danny Boyle, who directed the original 28 Days Later (from 2002), a horror classic featuring fast zombies that still remains a favorite amongst zombie fans. Its sequel 28 Weeks Later (from 2007) was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and was only exec produced by Boyle at the time. This next one also features Alex Garland returning to co-write the screenplay with Boyle. And I'm guessing it's going to be an angry sequel because the tagline is "time didn't heal anything." Oh damn. It was shot back-to-back with its sequel 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta, which doesn't have a release date yet. This teaser is actually just setting up the first trailer - which will land on Tuesday coming up. The Morse code beeping in this teaser video below simply states "Tuesday" over & over. There's only one glimpse of an island in the teaser - is that where this one will be taking place? Bring on the hungry zombies. // Continue Reading ›

Watch: Dick Van Dyke in Spike Jonze's New 'All My Love' Music Video
"I'm one of those lucky people who got to do for a living what I would've done anyway!" This is wonderful! Coldplay has released a brand new music video for the single "All My Love" off their brand new album called "Moon Music". But it's nothing like any usual music video. Coldplay's Chris Martin hangs out with the legendary Dick Van Dyke, who is turning 99 years old (!!) and plays on his piano while Dick dances around his home. All of it is filmed & edited into a lovely tribute to the iconic performer / comedian / actor Dick Van Dyke, cut with footage & photographs from his illustrious career in show business. It's co-directed by the filmmakers Spike Jonze & Mary Wigmore, which actually makes it the first real Spike Jonze-directed project we've seen in a while. And it's just so delightful. Shot in location at his home in Malibu, it's a lovely, heartfelt look at his life as he reflects on his age. "I'm acutely aware that I could go any day now... but I don't know why it doesn't concern me. I'm not afraid of it. I have the feeling that I'm gonna be alright." Dance on. // Continue Reading ›

John Waters Reveals His Top 10 Films of 2024 - Guadagnino & Glass
"It's the ones you love the most who always disappoint you in the end." (A quote from Love Lies Bleeding.) It's always so much fun to find out what John Waters' favorite films are every year! (And then argue about them!) One of the most exciting "best of the year" lists that kicks off this time of the year is from filmmaker John Waters - his Top 10 favorite films in a list that is unlike any other. For 2024, Waters has chosen a less quirky, more sexy selection of mostly LGBTQ films as his best of the year. His previous Top 10 list from 2023 included Beau is Afraid and Master Gardener and Fallen Leaves. One of his most controversial picks for 2024 - he loved Joker 2 (aka Joker: Folie à Deux) and is big on defending it. 🤦♂️ "Stupid critics. Gaga so good." His numero uno opened much earlier in 2024 - the dark & wild Love Lies Bleeding starring Kristen Stewart and Katy O'Brian, released by A24. After years of publishing this list with the magazine ArtForum, Waters has switched it up and sent it to Vulture instead. Peruse all of his Top 10 favorites from 2024 below. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for 'On Call' Series - About Long Beach Police Officers
"Every move we make is under the microscope. We are kicking the hornet's nest." Prime Video has revealed an official trailer for a new cop series titled On Call, set for a streaming debut in January 2025. Somehow, someone thought we needed more shows about cops? The series follows a pair of police officers on patrol as they respond to a new radio call, arriving on the scene to resolve incidents. The series is set in the sunny surf town of Long Beach, California. Starring Troian Bellisario as a veteran officer, Brandon Larracuente as an ambitious rookie officer, Lori Loughlin, Rich Ting, with Eriq La Salle (who also directed four of the episodes as well). "Shot with a mixture of hand-held cameras, bodycam and dash-cam footage to create a cinema verité effect, the innovative series explores the morality of protecting and serving a community." Yeah this is obviously some copaganda. Unlike the Netflix series Public Disorder that takes a critical look at police problems, this seems to be all about making them look like heroes working in these tough situations. // Continue Reading ›

'Live On Air' Featurette for 1972 Munich Olympics 'September 5' Film
"That's a TV! Are they seeing what we're seeing?" Paramount has revealed a new making of featurette video for the film September 5, one of the major Oscar contenders in play this awards season. The official trailer dropped a few months ago, and the film premiered at both the 2024 Venice & Telluride Film Fests earlier in the fall. During the 1972 Munich Olympics (on September 5th, 1972), an American sports broadcasting crew finds itself thrust into covering the hostage crisis involving Israeli athletes. The film focuses on the crew of the ABC Sports TV station that was located right inside the Olympic village, covering all the sports events live for the first time ever in TV history. The superb ensemble cast in the film includes Peter Sarsgaard, John Magaro, Ben Chaplin, Leonie Benesch, Zinedine Soualem, Marcus Rutherford, Georgina Rich, Corey Johnson, Daniel Adeosun, Benjamin Walker, Ferdinand Dörfler. This featurette is more of a more detailed intro to the film and the story it's telling, setting it up better than the trailer did. It's a fascinating story of this TV crew at this moment having to decide then & there how to proceed. Great film. // Continue Reading ›

Full Trailer for Australian Horror Film 'Birdeater' - Opening in January
"This is not at all how I wanted everything to go..." Uh oh. Dark Sky Films has released a full trailer for the Australian indie psychological horror film called Birdeater, which played at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. We posted a teaser back then just before its US debut - now set to hit theaters in January after a festival run this year. Birdeater is an unsettling thriller that "represents a visually striking and daring debut from this Australian duo." A bride-to-be joins her fiance's bachelor party up in the remote Australian Outback. As the festivities spiral into beer-soaked chaos, uncomfortable details about their relationship are exposed, turning the celebration into a feral nightmare. Starring Shabana Azeez, Mackenzie Fearnley, Ben Hunter, Jack Bannister, Clementine Anderson, Alfie Gledhill, Harley Wilson, and Caroline McQuade. This looks super messed up and strange and extremely crazy. It's definitely not for everyone. // Continue Reading ›
