Sundance 2026: Ethan Hawke vs Nature in 'The Weight' Superb Thriller

That's how you do it! This is how you make a rip-roaring survival thriller in modern times! This is how you keep modern audiences engaged and on the edge of their seat excited for what's going to come next! This is just the kind of movie I love experiencing without knowing a single thing about it beforehand. The Weight is one of the best films from the 2026 Sundance Film Festival - an instant favorite that'll probably remain somewhere on my Top 20 list by the end of the year. It's the first feature directed by Padraic McKinley, who has been working for years as an editor on various films & TV series, and also directing for TV including episodes of "Kingdom". After making this, I'm sure the doors will be wide open for him to make whatever he wants next. He has proven himself to be quite a competent director, one might even say he's got the chops for serious action & intensity and could handle a massive action movie. Until then, The Weight is a superbly entertaining, awesome thriller set in the dense forests of the Pacific Northwest. New US Teaser for Sylvain Chomet's 'A Magnificent Life' Animated Film

"Visually lush. A loving tribute." Sony Pictures Classics has revealed a brand new fun teaser trailer for the French animated film called A Magnificent Life, the shorter version of its original Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol title, the latest creation from Sylvain Chomet - acclaimed director of The Triplets of Belleville and The Illusionist. This is his latest feature since last making Attila Marcel in 2013 – back again with his distinct animation style. He also made the animated short at the start of Joker: Folie à Deux about his shadow. His new film follows the life of Marcel Pagnol, a playwright, novelist, and a filmmaker who became one of the world's most inventive & prolific artists in the mid-20th century. Based on Pagnol's book, examining his entire life from childhood through his successful career in France and beyond. We featured a teaser way back in 2024 before it would later premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Now it's finally set for a March 2026 release in US theaters soon. The French voice cast includes Laurent Lafitte, Géraldine Pailhas, Thierry Garcia, and Anaïs Petit; with Tom Hiddleston in the English voice cast. Sundance 2026: John Wilson's Kooky Doc 'The History of Concrete'

Is it possible to make an entire movie about concrete? Why, yes, apparently it is. That's the big idea behind this wacky, weird, fun documentary film called The History of Concrete that just premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. This is the latest doc creation from filmmaker / comedian / creator John Wilson, best known for his acclaimed HBO series "How to with John Wilson" which ran for three seasons until 2023. After making that, he wasn't sure what to do next, so he ended up tumbling right into the world of concrete. For those who aren't familiar with John Wilson and his shtick, he's a very "pick up an old handheld camera, film whatever is in front of him all the time, walk around & meet people, and put together a film later from all the footage with his narration over it" kind of guy. He's endearing and funny and wacky enough for this to be entertaining – most of the time. Because he was trying to figure out what to do during the final years of the pandemic, nothing intrigued him more (I guess?) than concrete – the hard stuff underneath our feet. The film stars Pierre Niney as Matt Vasseur, a charismatic and manipulative self-help guru, a "life coach" with a darker side. When a Senator starts to threaten his business and some of his followers begin to exhibit intense, even dangerous levels of obsession, Matt's world begins to unravel, revealing the hidden darkness behind his seemingly perfect life. The film premiered last year and is opening in French theaters this weekend. Expected to arrive in the US later in 2026. Along with Niney, it also features Marion Barbeau, Anthony Bajon, Christophe Montenez, and Holt McCallany. This is definitely not the first film about an influencer having a dark & twisted side, and these stories are based on real life people anyway. Looks like it gets intense.
