"Tide's coming in..." Gravitas has revealed an official trailer for an indie drama titled The Way We Speak, marking the feature directorial debut of indie filmmaker Ian Ebright. It premiered at the 2024 Florida Film Festival a few months ago, also screening at the RiverRun and Julien Dubuque Film Festivals. The Way We Speak is a modern cautionary tale. The synopsis is rather vague: An up-and-coming writer refuses to leave the spotlight when his best friend and debate opponent suffers cardiac arrest, leading to an obsession over his new opponent. Described in reviews as "a rich character study that centers around obsession, insecurity, and jealousy." Patrick Fabian stars as Simon, along with Diana Coconubo, Kailey Rhodes, Ayanna Berkshire, Lowell Deo, Ricco DiStefano, and Reed Diamond. This very moody, nearly dialogue-free trailer is a clever cover-up for the film's religious undercurrents - it's about how an atheist becomes insecure about his young, blonde, smart Christian debate opponent.
