Joker's Back in 'Batman: The Long Halloween' Parts 1 and 2 Trailers

"Everyone's invited to this party!" Warner Bros has unveiled an official trailer for both parts of their new animated adaptation of the iconic comic book Batman: The Long Halloween. These animated direct-to-VOD / DVD movies are the latest animated WB DC offerings, based on the iconic mid-1990s DC story from Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Batman investigates a murder spree in Gotham that takes place on holidays. Few cases have ever tested the wits of the World's Greatest Detective like the mystery behind the Holiday Killer… The Dark Knight must fight a unified front of classic DC Super-Villains, diffuse an escalating mob war and solve the mystery of the Holiday Killer in The Long Halloween - Part Two. Featuring the voices of Jensen Ackles as Batman, and Troy Baker as Joker, with Laila Berzins, Billy Burke, Zach Callison, David Dastmalchian, Alyssa Diaz, John DiMaggio, Robin Atkin Downes, and Josh Duhamel. This looks quite similar to other Batman movies we've seen, but I'm still excited to see this story turned into animation. ›››

Trailer for Time Skipping Comedy 'Long Story Short' with Rafe Spall

"I don't think you get how time travel works." Saban Films has released the official trailer for a romantic comedy titled Long Story Short, made by actor / filmmaker Josh Lawson. This actually premiered at the Luxembourg City Film Festival last month, and lands on VOD this July. Teddy wakes up the morning after his wedding to discover that every few minutes he's jumping forward to the next year of his life. "Watching his future flash before his eyes, Teddy must make every second count if he is to win back the woman he loves in this feel good comedy about second chances." Rafe Spall stars as Teddy, with Zahra Newman as his love interest Leanne, and a cast including Ronny Chieng, Josh Lawson, Dena Kaplan, Ben Taylor, and Noni Hazlehurst. This reminds me of About Time, using time as the conceit to talk more about love. ›››

New US Trailer for 'The Witches of the Orient' Vintage Volleyball Doc

"I really didn't think these girls could win." KimStim Films has unveiled a new official US trailer for the acclaimed indie documentary titled The Witches of the Orient, the latest feature from French filmmaker Julien Faraut follow his other cult hit sports doc John McEnroe: In the Realm of Perfection. This sports history doc film tells the story of the 1964 Japanese Olympic volleyball team, referred to at the time as the "Oriental Witches." It's a remarkably unique and empowering story about a group of women from Japan in the 1950s, still reeling and recovering following WWII, who came together and worked incredibly hard to become the best volleyball team in the world. Of course their biggest competitor was Russia, but it all lead to a triumphant victory at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. I saw this doc at the Rotterdam Film Festival earlier this year and it's a very unique film - I wrote in my Letterboxd review: "the whole film goes against the grain of what a typical sports history doc should be." Recommending this one to any & all sports fans and doc lovers. ›››

Watch: Foley Artists at Work in Canada in 'Footsteps' Short Doc Film

"It's kind of a mess, but that's the nature of foley." Step inside a "foley farm" up in Canada in this fantastic short Footsteps. From filmmaker Jeremy Benning, who usually works as a cinematographer (on shows like "The Expanse", "The Boys"), he directed this short film about an old friend. When he was growing up, Benning first met Andy Malcolm on a trip to a film house. Nowadays, Malcolm runs Footsteps Studios, known as "The Foley Farm", a big house an hour outside of Toronto, Canada, up in the middle of nowhere. "After reconnecting [with Andy] and visiting the facility, needless to say, Benning felt the urge to share this unique post-production studio with an audience." And now we get to enjoy a look at how these foley artists make sounds. They've worked on films like Blade Runner 2049 and Chappie, and they all seem so creative. ›››

Kelvin Harrison & Charlie Plummer in First Trailer for L.A. Film 'Gully'

"Who's responsible… for my misery?!?" Paramount has debuted a official trailer for an indie crime drama set in Los Angeles titled Gully, made by filmmaker Nabil Elderkin, making his first narrative feature film after tons of music videos previously. This originally premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival a few years ago, finally available to watch this summer in select theaters and VOD. Three teens living in L.A., all victims of extreme childhoods, wreak a hedonistic riot across the city over the course of 48 hours, all unbound by societal norms. They take us on a rip-roaring ride of drugs and murder across Los Angeles… The ensemble cast features Kelvin Harrison Jr., Charlie Plummer, Jacob Latimore, Jonathan Majors, Amber Heard, Travis Scott, John Corbett, and Terrence Howard. This looks like one wild and crazy film. As fun as it seems, I haven't heard much about it which isn't a good sign for something that premiered at a fest. ›››
