Sissy Spacek & J.K. Simmons in Fascinating 'Night Sky' Sci-Fi Trailer

"You ready to make history?" "You say that every time." Amazon has revealed the first official trailer for a fascinating sci-fi series called Night Sky, arriving on Prime Video later in May this summer. This looks pretty damn good! "I need to see where all this leads." The series introduces us to Franklin and Irene York, a couple who years ago discovered a chamber buried in their backyard with a portal which inexplicably takes them to a strange, deserted planet. Everything seems to be going okay as they've kept it a secret, but things change when they consider telling others. Then all of a sudden a strange man named Jude shows up. Sissy Spacek & J.K. Simmons star as the lovely couple, with a cast including Chai Hansen, Adam Bartley, Julieta Zylberberg, Rocío Hernández, and Kiah McKirnan. I just hope the twist in this isn't that it's actually all fake and they fell for it. I hope the twist is it's real and someone lost track of this portal! I want to know more about the planet! I'm completely sold by this trailer - adding this one to my summer watch list. ›››

The Story of Massive Social Security Fraud in 'The Big Conn' Doc Trailer

"We laughed at him, but everyone wanted to meet him." Apple has revealed the trailer for an intriguing new true crime documentary series called The Big Conn, the next project from the creators / directors of the McMillions about the McDonald's Monopoly game fraud scheme. This time they're focusing on a different kind of fraud, but with just as much trickery and deception. The new four-part series tells the unbelievable true story of larger-than-life attorney, Eric C. Conn, who defrauded the government and taxpayers over half a billion dollars in the largest Social Security fraud case in United States history. All four parts of the series will premiere alongside an "Apple TV+ Original" companion podcast that will explore Conn’s con and outrageous lifestyle further with additional interviews & behind-the-scenes details. This sounds wild! It seems to be more proof that it's always the ones hiding in plaint sight pulling the biggest crimes, living large – until they get caught. I really hope they caught this greedy bastard - I guess we have to watch to find out. ›››

'El Topo in Space!' Trailer for Ethereal French Sci-Fi Film 'After Blue'

"When she gets here, you'll have to shoot her." Altered Innocence has revealed the US trailer for a French sci-fi film called After Blue (Dirty Paradise), which first premiered at the 2021 Locarno Film Festival. It also played at the Toronto Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, Beyond Fest, and Busan. Everything about it sounds mesmerizing. A chimeric future on After Blue, a planet in another galaxy, a virgin planet where only women can survive in the midst of harmless flora & fauna. The story follows a punitive expedition to the planet. “Seductive, ethereal, bizarre… A kaleidoscopic fantasy warped through the lens of a 1970s sci-fi Western, After Blue is a synthetic siren song for the freaks of the future and the past," one review states. The PR folks add: "the newest vision from Bertrand Mandico (The Wild Boys) plays like a lesbian El Topo (in space!) with stunning 35mm in-camera practical effects, otherworldly set pieces, and a dazzling score from Pierre Desprats." Starring Elina Löwensohn, Vimala Pons, Agata Buzek, & Paula Luna. This looks so cool. ›››

True Crime Series 'The Staircase' Trailer with Colin Firth & Toni Collette

"We have no murder weapon, but we found countless images on his computer…" HBO has debuted the full-length official trailer for The Staircase, a fictionalized HBO mini-series that's "inspired" by a true crime story from 2001 that some of you may have heard of before. A man, grieving the death of his wife who fell down a staircase, is accused of murdering her. Did he do it? Apparently he did, but as always we may never really know for sure. Based on a true story, The Staircase explores the peculiar life of Michael Peterson, his sprawling North Carolina family, and the suspicious death of his wife, Kathleen Peterson. Colin Firth stars with Toni Collette as his (murdered? or accidentally killed? or something else?) wife, with an impressive ensemble cast that also features Sophie Turner, Michael Stuhlbarg, Dane DeHaan, Odessa Young, Rosemarie DeWitt, Patrick Schwarzenegger, plus Juliette Binoche and Parker Posey. This looks super eerie and Firth is the perfect mysterious "did he or didn't he?" actor for this. The owls are so creepy. ›››

Wil Daniels Stars in Odd Dark Comedy 'Suicide for Beginners' Trailer

"Do you even understand what's happening right now?" Vertical Ent. has revealed an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Suicide for Beginners, marking the feature directorial debut of Craig Thieman. This is arriving on VOD to watch this May. Here's a pitch: "Writing the perfect suicide note isn't easy. Murdering a garage full of people is also pretty hard. But getting your victims to like you while you kill them, that's the really tricky part." Here's what it's actually about: "Insecure and unhinged, Garrett is dead set on murdering the unrequited love of his life, Mia. When he comes face to face with his victim, his awkward incompetence takes over and things quickly spiral out of control as he finds himself on a deranged path to becoming a serial killer." The film stars Wil Daniels, Sara Tomko, Nate Panning, Julia Lehman, Simon Crist, Christian Rozakis, plus Corey Feldman and Sid Haig. This film looks extra kooky and rather weird. ›››

Official Trailer for 'Into The Weeds' Doc About Monsanto & Cancer

"This is about food, this is about health, this is about the soil, this is about environment." An official trailer has arrived for a documentary film titled Into The Weeds, about the uber despicable, disgusting Monsanto corporation and their evil ways. I really hate this company - and you should, too. Monsanto has been in so much trouble, and has been in so many films already, but this looks like one of the worst. Dewayne Johnson is a Bay Area groundskeeper who suffered from rashes and wondered if they were caused by the herbicide he'd been using for the past couple years. Johnson became the face of a legal battle to hold a corporation accountable for a product, yet they still fought him. "This is bigger than me." Adding to her award-winning body of work often centered on our strained relationship with the natural world, docu director Jennifer Baichwal follows Johnson through his battle, setting his personal journey against a global environmental crisis. This looks so frustrating but hopefully telling this story makes a difference in some way. Take a look. ›››
