Review: Marvel's 'Black Widow' Spins a Web of Espionage & Intrigue

Co-created by Stan Lee, Don Rico & Don Heck, Black Widow made her first appearance in 1964's Tales of Suspense #52, published by Marvel Comics. Introduced as an antagonist for Iron Man, Natasha Romanova was a Russian spy who later defected to the United States, becoming an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and a member of the Avengers. In 2010, the character (renamed Natasha Romanoff) made her film debut in John Favreau's Iron Man 2, played by Scarlett Johansson. She has since appeared in six Marvel movies, including 2019's Avengers: Endgame, in which she sacrificed herself so Hawkeye could retrieve the Soul Stone, saving her best friend — and all humankind — from the genocidal warlord Thanos. New US Trailer for Adorable Guide Dog Film 'Little Q' from Hong Kong

"Little Q has given me so much more than I deserved." Well Go USA has released an official US trailer for the adorable Chinese / Hong Hong drama titled Little Q, from filmmaker / film editor Law Wing-Cheong. Adapted from the Japanese novel Goodbye, Khoru, following a guide dog and his conflicted master. A story about the life of the dog Quill (nickname Little Q): the interaction between Little Q and the puppy raisers, the guide dog trainer, and the newly blind dessert chef Lee Po Ting, played by Simon Yam – how he earns the trust of Po Ting and makes Po Ting take a new lease of life. This also stars Gigi Leung, Him Law, Charlie Yeung, Shanshan Yuan, Angela Yeun, Frankie Lam, & Roger Kwok Chun On. This same story was made into the Japanese film Quill in 2004, but has been updated as a HK film now. Reviews say it "shies away from the [source] material's tear-jerking potential, and instead offers a warm and gentle look at how humans and their canine friends treasure each others' company." Discovery has released an official US trailer for the acclaimed shark doc titled Playing with Sharks, which first premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. It's debuting streaming on Disney+ just a week after Discovey's Shark Week event this summer. The full title is officially Playing with Sharks: The Valerie Taylor Story, as this profiles a remarkable Australian woman named Valerie Taylor, who started out hunting sharks, but then grew to love them, and is now an outspoken shark activist and conservationist, fighting to save them. From twice Emmy-nominated director Sally Aitken, the Playing with Sharks film captures the life of a woman ahead of her time—a fearless diver, cinematographer, and a pioneering conservationist whose work would forever change our understanding of the ocean's most magnificent apex predators. It was one of my favorite docs of Sundance 2021 in my Best of the Fest - "the definitive documentary about humanity's connection with sharks." I highly recommend this. ›››

Sony Pictures has released the second trailer for Hotel Transylvania 4, also known as Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, continuing the popular animated franchise with yet another new story featuring Dracula and his family. "Drac's Pack is back, like you've never seen them before in the final chapter of the Hotel Transylvania franchise." They're turned into *gasp* regular people!! When Van Helsing's mysterious invention, the 'Monsterfication Ray,' goes haywire, Drac and his monster pals are all transformed into humans, and Johnny becomes a monster. Drac loses his powers and they all need to find out a way to switch back before it gets out of hand! The extensive voice cast features: Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, David Spade, Brian Hull, Asher Blinkoff, Brad Abrell, Fran Drescher, Jim Gaffigan, and Molly Shannon. This is an improvement over the first trailer, but this is still an eye-rolling concept for a sequel. Maybe this franchise is running out of gas? Or maybe I'm just not the right audience for this style of humor. ›››

First Trailer for Gritty Thriller 'Beckett' with John David Washington

Netflix has unveiled the first official trailer for a gritty thriller set in Greece titled Beckett, which stars John David Washington, and is made by Italian filmmaker Ferdinando Cito Filomarino. It's also produced by fellow Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino (I Am Love, Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria). Following a car crash in Greece, Beckett, an American tourist, finds himself at the center of a dangerous political conspiracy and on the run for his life. As tensions escalate as the authorities close in, political unrest mounts, and Beckett falls even deeper into a dangerous web of conspiracy. The film stars JDW, along with Boyd Holbrook, Vicky Krieps, Alicia Vikander, and Giorgos Pyrpasopoulos. It looks extra intense, in a good way this time, as things start to get freakier as the story goes on. I'm interested to find out exactly what's going on in here. ›››
