Luke Evans & Gwei Lun-mei in Action Movie 'Weekend in Taipei' Trailer
"You're in trouble now." Oh boy! Ketchup Ent. has revealed an official trailer for Weekend in Taipei, an action comedy meets romantic thriller arriving in theaters in November later this year. The original working title was Weekend Escape Project, but now it's in Taipei - directed by a Taiwanese-American filmmaker and starring a Taiwanese actress. From the creators of Taken and The Transporter - Luc Besson co-wrote and produced this movie directly in Taiwan. The full-scale project shot for three months in Taipei last year - the action should be on a par with those in Taken, Transporter, From Paris with Love, Danny the Dog." The plot follows a "pit-bull" DEA agent working on job in Taipei, who encounters his old flame, a Taiwanese woman named Joey Kang. They haven't seen each other for 15 years, but now they're thrown into the action again during a weekend in Taipei. Starring Luke Evans, Sung Kang, Gwei Lun-mei, and Wyatt Yang. This looks cheesy yet entertaining! Action seems legit. That tattoo face guy looks gnarly. I'm down for this. // Continue Reading ›

"What makes you think humanity is worth saving?" Let's rock! Netflix has launched the main official trailer for Terminator Zero, a brand new animated series based on the Terminator mythology set in 2022 during the early days of the "Future War". I'm so down for this! Created and executive produced by Mattson Tomlin and executive produced by Skydance Animation by Production IG Studios in Japan, the 8-episode series will be part of the Terminator universe but will center around new characters. It will launch globally starting on Judgment Day - August 29th later this summer. Created and executive produced by Mattson Tomlin and executive produced by Skydance Animation by Production IG Studios in Japan, the 8-episode series will be part of the Terminator universe but will center around new characters. Sonoya Mizuno stars as the voice of "Eiko," the resistance fighter sent back in time to stop Skynet's impending attack on humanity. Additional English voice cast includes Timothy Olyphant as Terminator, André Holland as Malcolm Lee, Rosario Dawson as Koroko, & Ann Dowd as The Prophet. The series is directed by Masashi Kudo. I dig the use of The Smashing Pumpkin's "Disarm" song for this bleak trailer. And all of the sci-fi footage looks awesome. // Continue Reading ›

Forging the Rings Featurette for 'LOTR: The Rings of Power' Season 2
"The ring is a miniature metaphor for the Earth - it's round, it's circular, it has no beginning, no ending, encompasses everything including power." 💍 With one month left to go before Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series kicks off, Prime Video has started launching a full-on marketing push. After the SDCC trailer last weekend, they've debuted a "Forging the Rings" featurette. This behind-the-scenes looks focuses on the titular rings – the 20 "rings of power" that Suaron forges with the Elves to control Middle Earth. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on Season 1's epic scope and ambition, Season 2 plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. This features the legendary concept designer and illustrator John Howe (who also designed Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy) discussing the mythology around the rings & shows off making even more rings for this epic series. Casey Affleck & Laurence Fishburne in Sci-Fi Thriller 'Slingshot' Trailer
"The drugs used to induce hibernation can produce side effects." Oh yeah he's losing it. Bleecker Street has revealed the first official trailer for a sci-fi thriller titled Slingshot, set on a spacecraft traveling to Saturn's moon Titan. This film has been on the schedule for a while – opening at the end of August – and I'm glad we finally get a look at some footage from it. Laurence Fishburne stars as Captain Franks, along with Casey Affleck as John, plus a supporting cast including Tomer Capone, David Morrissey, Emily Beecham, Charlotta Lövgren, Mark Ebulué, as well as Nikolett Barabas as the voice of "Odyssey" the spaceship system. An astronaut struggles to maintain his grip on reality aboard a possibly compromised mission to Titan. The title refers to a space travel maneuver (using gravity to "slingshot" them) that will either catapult them to Titan or send them into deep space forever. Exciting! I'm always up for thrilling space movies like this. Will they hold together & pull it off? Will everyone go crazy & kill each other? Only one way to find out. // Continue Reading ›

Natalia Reyes in Post-Apocalyptic Film 'Tomorrow Before After' Trailer
"I'm a ghost living in my purgatory." Gravitas has revealed an official trailer for a movie called Tomorrow Before After, a post-apocalyptic one-woman-alone survival thriller from filmmaker Alfonso Quijada. This is skipping theaters and will open on VOD directly in late August before the end of the summer. Colombian actress Natalia Reyes (seen in Running with the Devil and Terminator: Dark Fate) stars in the one-and-only role, along with a doggie named Lobo (which translates to "Wolf" in Spanish), played by a pooch named Blake. In a post-apocalyptic world, a young woman, with the help of an abandoned dog searches for other survivors while trying to cope with an unborn child growing inside of her. She wonders: how could she be pregnant? What does it all mean? Is this a post-apocalyptic version of the story of Mary? Or is it something else? This footage doesn't look bad, and the dog seems legit, just hope there's something more to this script. // Continue Reading ›

Himesh Patel & Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 'Greedy People' Movie Trailer
"People are dead. There's too much loss for it to just be a coincidence." Lionsgate has unveiled an official trailer for a dark comedy thriller titled Greedy People, the latest from Old Henry director Potsy Ponciroli. It's set for a release in select theaters in August, though there's not much buzz about it yet. Perhaps with more time? The "darkly comedic crime thriller" film follows the residents of a small island town who must navigate a sensational murder and the discovery of a million dollars (at the crime scene), leading to a series of increasingly terrible decisions that upend the once peaceful community. "A million dollars. A million bad decisions." Starring Himesh Patel, Lily James, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, along with Simon Rex, Traci Lords, Tim Blake Nelson, Joey Lauren Adams, Uzo Aduba, Nina Arianda, & Jim Gaffigan. Monster Parents in Animated Adventure 'Spellbound' Official Trailer
"We're going to make it - together." Netflix & Skydance Animation have revealed the first official trailer for an animated adventure called Spellbound, made by filmmaker Vicky Jenson (who also co-directed Shrek and Shark Tale years ago). This big family movie musical is set to arrive in November before Thanksgiving. Every kid has trouble getting along with their parents sometimes, but this is ridiculous. Ha ha, funny. In Spellbound, Ellian (voiced by Rachel Zegler) squares off with her mother and father, the king and queen of Lumbria. But this isn't any typical family drama — a mysterious spell has transformed her parents into massive, rampaging monsters. She goes on a quest to find out how to save her parents and maybe the entire kingdom. The voice cast also includes John Lithgow, Jenifer Lewis, Nathan Lane, Tituss Burgess, with Javier Bardem & Nicole Kidman. With songs written by musical legend Alan Menken & Glenn Slater. Antonio Banderas & Melissa Leo in Thriller 'The Clean Up Crew' Trailer
"Things are about to get so much worse." Saban has revealed the official trailer for a movie called The Clean Up Crew, an action-heavy crime thriller from filmmaker Jon Keeyes. He's been churning out tons of these junk action movies, mostly with Antonio Banderas recently, and I'm not sure who even watches them. In this, when a crime scene cleanup crew discovers a briefcase full of money, they are unwittingly sent into a battle with a ruthless and corrupt crime boss, mobsters, hitmen, and corrupt government agents who are hell-bent on getting it back. Sounds like every other script about people who find money. Starring Antonio Banderas, Melissa Leo, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, with Swen Temmel, Ekaterina Baker, Leslie Stratton, Conor Mullen, and Matthew Tompkins. It's another of these eerily similar films, as there's also Wolfs about clean up guys who get into trouble when they're booked for the same job. This film is being dumped on VOD, while Wolfs is going to Venice. If you're still into this anyway, check out the trailer below. // Continue Reading ›

From the same filmmaker behind the films Outcast and The Girl with All the Gifts, plus the "Black Museum" episode of "Black Mirror". When a sinister threat from his childhood returns to haunt him, a father desperately struggles against his deepest inner fear. Only this time, the fight isn't for himself; it's for his family. For centuries and across cultures, parents have warned children of the legendary "Bagman", who snatches innocent children and stuffs them into his vile, rotting bag—never to be seen again. When the Bagman comes for his family this time, will he be able to get rid of him? While Smith has made three Clerks movies over the decades, this one is about him, telling the story of his love for movies growing up in New Jersey. Set in the summer of 1986, The 4:30 Movie is a coming-of-age story about three 16 year old friends (played by Austin Zajur, Nicholas Cirillo, and Reed Northrup) who spend their Saturdays sneaking into movies at the local multiplex. "Somebody's gotta keep it lively, right?" During San Diego Comic-Con, Paramount+ revealed the first look teaser trailer for an intriguing new Star Trek spin-off movie called Star Trek: Section 31. It's not a series, it's a one-time movie "event" - connected to the recent "Star Trek: Discovery" series. It is intended to be the first real TV movie in the ST franchise and part of producer Alex Kurtzman's expanded Star Trek Universe. Section 31 stars Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, who becomes an agent for a secret division of Starfleet. Tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, she also must face the sins of her past. The cast includes Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez, and James Hiroyuki Liao. Eddie Redmayne in First Teaser for 'Day of the Jackal' Assassin Series
"Who exactly is this man?" Peacock has unveiled a first look teaser trailer for an upcoming assassin thriller series titled The Day of the Jackal, yes indeed based on the book (and British movie) of the same name. The 1973 movie is also called The Day of the Jackal, starring Edward Fox, and it's adapted from the book by Frederick Forsyth. There's a 1997 Hollywood movie called The Jackal also about an assassin, though it's not an exact adaptation. The new series is a bold, contemporary re-imagining of the beloved and respected novel and film. While remaining true to the DNA of the original, this contemporary drama will delve deeper into the life of the chameleon like "anti-hero" at the heart of the story, in a high octane, cinematic, globetrotting "cat & mouse" thriller, set amidst the turbulent geo-political landscape of our time. Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne stars in this series as "the Jackal", with Lashana Lynch as Bianca, Úrsula Corberó, Charles Dance, Richard Dormer, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, and Eleanor Matsuura. This is a legit teaser - some seriously slick shots in it, doesn't look like a simple TV show at all. First Official Trailer for Guan Hu's Award-Winning Movie 'Black Dog'
"I want to keep this dog." CineAsia UK has revealed an official UK trailer for a beloved Chinese film titled Black Dog, one of the best dog movies of 2024 (perhaps even of this entire decade). These two lonely souls embark on a journey together... It is a story about these two friends, but also how a town changes after realizing it's not a good thing to round up all these animals. Not a single dog (or other animal) was harmed in the making of the film, and a few dogs were adopted by the lead actor after filming. Black Dog stars Eddie Peng, Tong Liya, Zhang Yi, as well as fellow filmmaker Jia Zhangke in a small role as well. Highly recommend adding this film to your watchlist right away - keep an eye out for it. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for 'Hostile Dimensions' Multiverse Horror Thriller Film
"Every time we open the door, it just leads to some other place." Dark Sky Films has revealed a full official trailer for an indie horror thriller feature titled Hostile Dimensions, made by director Graham Hughes. It's now set for release in August, after first premiering at FrightFest in the UK and Beyond Fest last year. When a graffiti artist seemingly "vanishes", two documentary filmmakers end up traveling through alternate dimensions, facing their worst nightmares to uncover the truth of where they went. This is yet another mix of horror and multiverse storytelling, similar to the other indie sci-fi horror Doors film. These dimensions mix the ordinary with the bizarre - whales floating across the skies, strange creatures, and so much more. Hughes describes it as a "tribute to highly imaginative low-budget films combining found footage with epic sci-fi to create something unique and thrilling." Starring Graham Hughes, Stephen Beavis, Annabel Logan, and Andy Stewart. This found footage style is a bit rough, but the twisted storytelling looks legit. // Continue Reading ›

Morgan Freeman & Luke Hemsworth in Action Thriller 'Gunner' Trailer
"This don't guy is not fighting for God & Country, he's fighting for family..." Warner Bros Ent. has revealed an official trailer for an action thriller crime movie called Gunner, which is the (last) name of the guy and not a reference to a "gunner", though in this case both are the same. Despite starring Morgan Freeman, this is actually a direct-to-video title heading straight to VOD in August. The latest action film from the creator of The Fast and the Furious which follows Ray Miller as he tries to save his sons, Luke and Travis, from a dangerous drug gang. "They messed with the wrong guy." With no one but himself to retaliate, an enraged Gunner wreaks havoc to rescue his sons after stirring up trouble with a drug operation. This stars Luke Hemsworth & Morgan Freeman, with Barry Jay Minoff, Grant Feely, Connor DeWolfe, Joseph Baena, Sean Rogers, Gary Wood, Mykel Shannon Jenkins, Yulia Klass, and Maurice P. Kerry. This look so bad and cliche. I'm sad that Freeman ended up in a junk movie like this. How did that happen? // Continue Reading ›

This premiered at the 2023 Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal one year ago, and is ready for release in US art house theaters + on VOD this fall. A body-snatching alien comes to Earth, reconnects with their missing partner alien, and tries to find their way in modern America. Full Red Band Trailer for Zack Snyder's Directors Cut of 'Rebel Moon'
"Their wrath will be my vengeance." Netflix has launched the full red band trailer for the R-rated versions of Rebel Moon, the epic Zack Snyder sci-fi saga. Snyder teased this version last year when the first Part 1 opened in late 2023. This is the definitive, actually-what-he-wanted-to-make version of this movies - hard R in every sense. The new Director's Cut movies are titled Rebel Moon - Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Rebel Moon - Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness. These an original Zack Snyder creation, a Star Wars-esque sci-fi adventure about a ragtag team of rebels. In a universe controlled by a corrupt militaristic government, the moon of Veldt is threatened by the forces of the Imperium, the army of the Mother World controlled by "Regent Balisarius". Sofia Boutella stars as Kora – a former member of the Imperium who rallies warriors from across the galaxy to fight back against them. With a cast including Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Charlie Hunnam, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, plus Anthony Hopkins as the voice of "Jimmy". This definitely looks bloodier, crazier, sexier, wilder in every sense – which is what should've been released all along. Will they be better than the initial tamer versions? I hope so. Review: Greg Berlanti's Apollo Program Comedy 'Fly Me to the Moon'
There's an idea about cinema that most filmmakers will tell you about what is going to happen in the film within the first ten minutes. Fly Me to the Moon, directed by Greg Berlanti (also of Love, Simon), is a perfect example of that technique. In the first ten minutes, sly marketing manager Kelly Jones, played by Scarlett Johansson, tries to pitch business executives on buying a sports car with safety belts (it happens in the 60s when any safety measures were still treated as unnecessary accessories). With seatbelts you don't have to die driving a Mustang and your wife will luckily give you permission to buy something slightly cooler than a Plymouth. This definitely sounds appealing to buyers, and this is exactly what Fly Me to the Moon intends to do, too. It offers audiences a beautiful, smooth and entertaining ride without any risk. What could possibly go wrong...? But cinema without any risk is not as much fun as it may seem to be at first glance. // Continue Reading ›

My First Horror Movie is directed by Shihan Van Clief and stars Georgina Navarro, Chauntice Green, Justyn Franco, Stephan O'Shea, Joy Marie Thomas, and Miles Crawford. "As a first-time filmmaker, I wanted My First Horror Film to be a thrilling story that also leaves the audience feeling good," states Van Clief. "I still remember the day I saw you in the window..." Sony has debuted two official trailers for a romantic drama called It Ends With Us, arriving in theaters this August in just a few weeks. It's adapted from the bestselling "brave and heartbreaking novel" written by Colleen Hoover, starring actress Blake Lively in the lead role. A chance meeting with a neurosurgeon named Ryle sparks a connection but Lily begins to see sides of him that sadly remind her of her own parents. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened." Blake Lively stars with Justin Baldoni as Ryle, Brandon Sklenar as Atlas, Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, and Amy Morton.
