Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a darkly comedic suspense series titled The Recruit, created by Alexi Hawley, of the "State of Affairs", "Castle", and "The Rookie" series previously. This one is about a young lawyer, not your typical CIA series, considering it's about someone trying to deal with the CIA's (internal) dirty laundry. A fledgling lawyer at the CIA, played by Noah Centineo (from To All the Boys I've Loved Before & Charlie's Angels), becomes enmeshed in dangerous international power politics when a former asset threatens to expose the nature of her long-term relationship with the agency unless they exonerate her of a serious crime. The series' cast also includes Laura Haddock, Aarti Mann, Colton Dunn, Fivel Stewart, Vondie Curtis Hall, Daniel Quincy Annoh, Kristian Bruun, Byron Mann, Angel Parker, & Kaylah Zander. I was not expecting to be into this, but I'm totally sold by this trailer and the humor and craziness of all of it. This looks good. ›››

This is skipping theaters and will drop directly on Hulu in December for anyone to watch at home. This kind of sounds like The Sixth Sense but if it was a teenage girl high school comedy instead. After suffering from a near-death experience as a young girl, Darby Harper gains the ability to see dead people. As a result, she becomes introverted and prefers to spend time counseling lonely spirits who have unfinished business on earth. But all that changes when Capri, the "Queen Bee" of the school’s most exclusive clique, unexpectedly dies in a freak hair straightening accident. What a twist! Darby and the Dead stars Riele Downs, Auli'i Cravalho, Chosen Jacobs, Asher Angel, Wayne Knight, with Derek Luke and Tony Danza. This is a very mediocre direct-to-streaming release, borrowing from To All the Boys I've Loved Before or Mean Girls more than anything else with ghosts in it. ›››

First Official Trailer for Screenlife Thriller 'Searching' Sequel 'Missing'

"I'm not giving up on my Mom." Sony Pictures has unveiled the trailer for Missing, the highly anticipated sequel to the screenlife thriller Searching from 2018. Searching premiered at Sundance but was snatched up by Sony Pictures because it's one of the best told entirely through screens films ever made. This one picks up where that one left off, with Searching filmmakers Sev Ohanian & Aneesh Chaganty writing the story and producing. When her mom disappears while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend, June's search for answers is hindered by international red tape. Still stuck thousands of miles away in Los Angeles, June creatively uses all the latest technology at her fingertips to try and find her before it's too late. But as she digs deeper, her digital sleuthing raises more questions than answers. The story promises twists and turns and shocking discoveries about those the hero thought she knew best. Starring Storm Reid, Joaquim de Almeida, Ken Leung, Amy Landecker, with Daniel Henney and Nia Long. It looks painfully cheesy, I was worried the studio might mess this up. Second Trailer for Slavery Escape Film 'Emancipation' with Will Smith

"They whip me, they break the bones in my body more times than I can count… but they never break me!!" Apple TV has revealed an official full trailer for Emancipation, starring Will Smith as an escaped slave in this intense and riveting drama based on a true story. It's set to debut in December for streaming and in select theaters. Smith stars as Peter, a runaway slave who forges through the swamps of Louisiana on a tortuous journey to escape plantation owners that nearly killed him. The film is inspired by the 1863 photos of "Whipped Peter," taken during a Union Army medical examination. Which is finally shown in this trailer at the end. The film's cast includes Ben Foster, Charmaine Bingwa, Gilbert Owuor, Mustafa Shakir, Steven Ogg, Grant Harvey, Jabbar Lewis, Jayson Warner Smith, Ronnie Gene Bivens, Michael Luwoye, Aaron Moten, & Imani Pullum. This looks like a harrowing and infuriating story, once again about American racism. I like the color grading differences between the pre- and post-slavery stories. From the looks of it, this might just be an impressive film overall. It's a late-in-the-year surprise from Apple TV+. ›››

Based on true events during the 2016 construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline that runs right through the Standing Rock Reservation, the environmental drama opens in limited theaters and on VOD in January. A journalist and oil company executive find themselves on opposite sides of the fight during the building of the contentious Dakota Access Pipeline that runs through a Native Reservation in North Dakota. This is a different kind of propaganda film, about how doing the right thing to defend people and their land can really upset corporate overlords. The film stars David Arquette, William Mapother, Amy Smart, Kerry Knuppe, Frances Fisher, Irene Bedard, Mariel Hemingway, David Midthunder, and Che Jim. This is worth a watch. ›››

First Official UK Trailer for Adil & Bilall's Intense Syria Thriller 'Rebel'

Signature Entertainment in the UK has revealed an official trailer for Rebel, the intense action thriller war film from the acclaimed Belgian-Moroccan filmmaking duo known as Adil & Bilall. This first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and will be out in the UK next month, but with no US date set yet. Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah are known as talented action directors who broke into Hollywood with Bad Boys for Life, then Disney+'s "Ms. Marvel" series as well as Batgirl for WB (before they shelved it). This was made inbetween all that. Set in Brussels and Syria, Kamal resolves to change his life for the better, so he leaves to help war victims in Syria. But he is forced to join a militia and is left stranded in Raqqa, suddenly working for the bad guys. Back home, his younger brother Nassim quickly becomes easy prey for radical recruiters, who promise to reunite him with his brother. Their mother, Leila, fights to protect the only thing she has left: her youngest son. It stars Amir El Arbi, Aboubakr Bensaihi, Younes Bouab, Kamal Moummad, and Lubna Azabal.
