"You can't break someone more than once." 1091 Pictures has revealed an official trailer for an indie thriller titled When I Consume You, which first premiered at the Fantasia and Screamfest Horror Festivals last year. When I Consume You marks the third feature for New York filmmaker Perry Blackshear following his award-winning psychological horror feature debut They Look Like People and celebrated sophomore effort, the aquatic supernatural horror romance The Siren. His latest is described as: "a gritty, slow-burn urban folktale about family, damnation, and redemption." A young woman and her brother seek revenge against a mysterious stalker. It's a unique urban folktale set and filmed in Brooklyn, confronting the vulnerabilities people struggle with every day through a genre lens to create a chillingly intimate indie horror nightmare. The film stars MacLeod Andrews, Evan Dumouchel, Margaret Ying Drake, and Libby Ewing. This reminds me of Kill List in a few ways, but seems to go in a different direction by the end. Peacock has unveiled the full official trailer for the horror comedy slasher They/Them, a reference to the "they/them" pronounces from the LGBTQ community. This film marks the directorial debut of a screenwriter named John Logan (Gladiator, The Last Samurai, The Aviator, Sweeney Todd, Rango, Hugo, Skyfall, Spectre, Alien: Covenant), with Jason Blum of Blumhouse producing. They/Them is an empowering slasher film featuring an ensemble cast: Carrie Preston, Anna Chlumsky, Theo Germaine, Quei Tann, Anna Lore, Monique Kim, Darwin del Fabro, Cooper Koch, and Austin Crute. Plus, of course, Kevin Bacon as the camp counselor. "You gotta be the meanest fighter God ever created." Hulu has unveiled the full-length official trailer for an incredible new sports biopic series titled Mike, about the infamous boxer Mike Tyson. This looks like a knock out! "Mike is an unauthorized and no-holds-barred look at the life of Mike Tyson – and it is one wild ride." This is from the same team that made I, Tonya, featuring Craig Gillespie directing episodes, and Steven Rogers writing the script - which seems like the perfect filmmaking team to handle this story. I don't think they will shy away from how abusive he is, which is an honest part of his character. Trevante Rhodes (from Moonlight) stars as Mike, with a main cast including Harvey Keitel as boxing coach Cus D'Amato, Scott MacDonald, Suzette Lange, Laura Harrier as Robin Givens, plus Russell Hornsby as Don King. I'm definitely planning to fire this up when it's out on Hulu. It looks like a rollercoaster ride. ›››

Meet a Struggling Young Cartoonist in A24's 'Funny Pages' Trailer

"It's meant to be fun, that's why they call them the funnies." A24 has unveiled an official trailer for an indie film titled Funny Pages, a coming-of-age comedy marking the feature directorial debut of young director Owen Kline. This tiny little NYC project has been in development for years, and eventually got the support of A24 and the Safdie Brothers, who are producers. This premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in the Directors' Fortnight sidebar, and opens in the US in August this summer. The film stars Daniel Zolghadri as Robert, a young cartoonist hoping to make a name for himself in the comics industry and skip college. But he encounters lots of trouble, from parents to overly-critical friends, in this quirky look at a passionate kid who wants to keep the art of hand-drawn cartoons alive. Also stars Matthew Maher, Miles Emanuel, Maria Dizzia, and Josh Pais. I'm not the biggest fan of this film, but it does have some good laughs in it. ›››

Jamie Lee Curtis returns as Laurie Strode, joined by Andi Matichak, Will Patton, Rohan Campbell, & Kyle Richards, plus both Nick Castle and James Jude Courtney credited as playing "The Shape". Roadside Attractions has revealed an official trailer for a true story inspirational dramedy titled Gigi & Nate, from filmmaker Nick Hamm. The film is arriving in theaters in early September, for those interested in watching. A young man's life is turned upside down after he is left a quadriplegic. Moving forward seems near impossible until he meets his unlikely service animal, Gigi - a curious and intelligent capuchin monkey. She helps Nate find what he needs most: hope. Charlie Rowe stars in the film as Nate, with an ensemble cast including Zoe Margaret Colletti, Marcia Gay Harden, Josephine Langford, Jim Belushi (!!), Diane Ladd, Tara Summers, and Hannah Alligood. This looks extra cheesy, especially with the music in this trailer, but the little monkey is so adorable and so lovely. It's hard to not smile at this story of hope. ›››
