Two Trailers for 'Hero' Musical About a Korean Independence Activist

"Long live Korea!" CJ Entertainment has revealed two official trailers for a Korean historical biopic movie called Hero, not to be confused with Zhang Yimou's iconic martial arts epic also called Hero (from 2002). This one is about a different hero, a Korean independence fighter from the early 1900s pushing back against the Japanese occupation – An Jung-geun, an independence activist who assassinated Itō Hirobumi, the first Prime Minister of Japan and Resident-General of Korea in 1909. It's based on a musical from the stage, and has been adapted for the screen also as a musical. Starring Chung Sung Hwa as An Jung-geun, with Kim Go Eun, Na Moon Hee, Cho Chae Yun, Bae Jung Nam, Jo Woo Jin, Park Jin Joo, and Lee Hyun Woo. Early reviews say the movie "delves deeper into different facets of Ahn compared to the stage version, portraying him not only as a heroic independence activist but also as a devout Catholic, father, husband, son and friend." First Look Teaser for 'The Consultant' Series Starring Christoph Waltz

Amazon has revealed a first look teaser trailer for a new series titled The Consultant, arriving for streaming on Prime Video in February. Based on the book of the same name, The Consultant stars Christoph Waltz as Mr. Patoff, a mysterious business "consultant" who takes over running a game company called CompWare. Another description says it's about the "relationship between employee and boss – asking how far we will go to get ahead, and to survive." This also stars Nat Wolff, Brittany O'Grady, Aimee Carrero. The teaser plays like a horror film, which is the right tone for a corporate schmuck takeover story, because this guy does not look like he cares about any of these people. Watch: Existential Animated Short 'Life is a Particle Time is a Wave'

What do all these moments in time on this planet mean for each and every one of us? What do we make of our lives when we look back on them? Where do we find comfort? These are some of the questions address in this fascinating, existential short titled Life is a Particle Time is a Wave made by filmmaker Daniel Zvereff. This 10 min animated short premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last year and is now online. In an attempt to ease his sadness, a widowed watchmaker spends his days in solitude, distracting himself with repetitive activities to pass the time. Broken, like the old watches he repairs, he searches for ways to mend his soul and body, looking for meaning and respite in the ebb of time that remains. The film is made from "~3200 sheets of 12×18 medium weight drawing paper" with charcoal pencil & willow charcoal. I really dig the music in this by Sami Jano. There's no dialogue - it's a hypnotic story about all of the little things in life. ›››

Fan-Made 'Real Nuke' Making Of Featurette for Nolan's 'Oppenheimer'

"We all know that Chris is very big in getting everything on camera and doing things as real as possible." One of our most anticipated 2023 movies is Christopher Nolan's latest titled Oppenheimer, telling the story of the creation of the atomic bomb at Los Alamos in the 1940s. By now, most movie fans have heard the real news that Nolan created shots showing the nuclear explosion without using any CGI. Which is just a bit crazy? But also awesome. Nolan is famous for doing everything for real on set, with practical FX and set pieces and stunts. Last year someone made a joke about how he probably thought about detonating a real nuke just to get the perfect shot. Taking that joke even further: "I can't believe they released the footage of Christopher Nolan dropping a real nuke!" Filmmaker Stephen Ford created this entirely fake, entirely fan-made featurette to riff on that "rumor" and it's a must watch. It's so perfectly edited, I'm in awe! I cackled when Hoyte Van Hoytema mutters "shit, how are we gonna do this?" I have to post it for everyone to enjoy. ›››

First Full Trailer for Russian Film 'The Challenge' Shot For Real in Space

They really went and did it!! Crazy. Central Partnership has unveiled an official trailer for a Russian space movie called The Challenge (in English), made by filmmaker Klim Shipenko. This is the very first film to ever actually shoot in space for real. They've been talking about this for years, a Hollywood pipedream that Russian pulled off first (similar to the space race in the 50s/60s). Tom Cruise still has his own project in space in the works. This Russian director and his lead actress flew up to space in October 2021, and filmed for a few weeks. The story follows a female surgeon who has to perform an operation on a cosmonaut too ill to return to Earth. There will only be about 30-40 minutes of actual space footage in the film, the rest was shot (on ground) in studios and at real locations. Вызов stars Yulia Peresild, Miloš Biković, Vladimir Mashkov, Alyona Mordovina, Tatyana Dogileva, and Sergey Burunov. Yes - this is technically some Russian propaganda, but it's worth a look just for the spectacle of the very first movie ever filmed in space. ›››

Manuel lives in a small coastal town. He plays bass in a band with his best friends. One of his band mates is Felipe, with whom he shares a strong friendship. Unbreakable bond. Until the time comes to put it to test. A sexual awakening coming-of-age film fraught with emotions. "Cautiously, with increasing resignation, Manu keeps trying to solve the conundrum: how do you avoid losing something precious, when it’s the very thing tearing you up inside?" Watch This: A Heartfelt Tribute to 'The Best Movie Animals of 2022'

One more look back at the movies of 2022 is a special tribute to The Best Movie Animals of 2022. This lovely video was edited by Luís Azevedo for Little White Lies, and features footage of many of the different animals seen in various films throughout this year. He misses a few big ones, but includes many of the most important ones. The most beloved and recognizable animals in films this year are: the dog and the donkey (Jenny!) from Martin McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin, and the donkey from Jerzy Skolimowski's EO, plus all of the horses in Jordan Peele's Nope, and the Belgian Malinois doggie from Channing Tatum's Dog movie. And maybe the cat from A Man Called Otto. There's also a couple of terrific docs about animals: All That Breathes (about birds in India), Wildcat (about rescuing ocelots), The Biggest Little Farm sequel (watch the trailer); plus all the dogs seen in Bitterbrush.
