"We are not leaving, this is our land and we mean to stay!" A trailer has arrived for an indie western film titled The Lonesome Trail, marking the feature debut of filmmaker Arlette Thomas-Fletcher. This is a religious propaganda film in which they even admit that the whole point is "about Preacher Brent Carson's commitment to God to spread the gospel and help all people migrating to the town of Red Springs Montana to find a home." A preacher comes to a small western town in the 1890s, settles in the outer lands near one of the biggest landowners in town and changes the whole landscape of the town. The tagline is: "Sometimes Forgiveness Comes With A Price." The film stars Peter Wray as the Preacher, Lamont Easter, Donald Imm, Kelly Schwartz, Kendra North, Colin McHugh, & Johnny Alonso. This just seems like some B-movie that you'd find stashed in your church near the TV, but there's not much else worth sharing today. ›››

KVIFF 2022: Iranian Horror 'Zalava' is a Thrilling Supernatural Fable

Everyone is familiar with the concept of Schrödinger's cat, right? Is there a cat in the box, or not? Here's the formal definition: "In quantum mechanics, Schrödinger's cat is a thought experiment that illustrates a paradox of quantum superposition… a hypothetical cat may be considered simultaneously both alive and dead as a result of its fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur." How can this apply to a horror script? Well, you have to watch and find out. Zalava is a horror film from Iran that completely rocked me at a midnight screening at the 2022 Karlovy Vary Film Festival. I am just catching up with it now after it first premiered at the 2021 Venice & Toronto Film Festivals last fall. Holy hell I'm glad I didn't read anything about this before, because it's a thrilling experience to discover exactly how they have crafted a brilliant Schrödinger's cat horror about a demonic force threatening a remote village in Kurdistan. ›››

First Teaser Trailer for Korean Historical Epic 'Hansan: Rising Dragon'

"A fortress on the sea? Nonsense!" Well Go USA has revealed an official teaser trailer for Hansan: Rising Dragon, a Korean historical epic action movie arriving in theaters this July (both in Korea and in the US). The film is technically a follow-up to 2014's The Admiral: Roaring Currents, which explores the historic Battle of Hansan Island. This new film depicts the historical Battle of Hansan, which took place five years before Battle of Myeongnyang depicted in The Admiral, the first full-scale war with the Japanese army since the Japanese invasion of Korea from 1592 to 1598. The main cast includes Park Hae-il, Byun Yo-han, Ahn Seong-gi, Son Hyun-joo, Kim Sung-kyu, Kim Sung-kyun, Kim Hyang-gi, and Ok Taec-yeon. This is only just a teaser, and barely has 45 seconds of footage, but it still looks like an entertaining Korean blockbuster. Back at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in Czechia - Always More Films

I'm going going, back back, to Czechia Czechia. I've been coming to the Karlovy Vary Film Festival for years, but with the COVID-19 pandemic I took a break during 2020 and 2021. The last time I was here was in 2019 and honestly, it's great to be back again. This wonderful festival takes place in a tiny resort town located on the west side of Czechia, close to the German border. Having come here for years, and with the festival now celebrating its 56th year, I would argue that Karlovy Vary is an A-list festival, one of the most important and exciting festivals in Europe that takes place right after Cannes. Half the reason I go to KVIFF (as it's known for short) is to catch up with more of the Cannes films I missed. And perhaps even see a few of my favorites again - they're showing Park Chan-wook's Decision to Leave and Lukas Dhont's Close, and I'm considering grabbing tickets for these two which were my #1 + #2 favorites from the Cannes 2022. Awesome Teaser for Canadian Revenge Film 'Polaris' Starring Viva Lee

Bring it on!! This is going to be awesome - get a first look below. A festival teaser trailer has debuted for a Canadian indie film titled Polaris, a revenge thriller from filmmaker KC Carthew. It's premiering at the 2022 Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal this summer, and hopefully will get a US release not long after. Here's the pitch: A young girl raised by a polar bear pursues her destiny after escaping capture by brutal warriors intent on killing her mother. Yeah I'm sold! Carthew describes the film as "Mad Max in the Arctic, an origin story of a world gone to shame that builds from themes of environmental stewardship/horror." Adding that, "it is inspired by eco-feminism and the need for significant cultural and sustainable change. The film portrays these themes with an entirely female cast – including the polar bear." Yay! This shoot for this looks stunning. Starring Viva Lee, Khamisa Wilsher, and Muriel Dutil. Honestly I don't even need to see the film yet to know it's going to be totally badass.
