Freaky Norwegian Kids in New Trailer for Eskil Vogt's 'The Innocents'

"What do you do when someone's mean?" IFC Midnight has unveiled an official US trailer for a freaky little Norwegian thriller about kids with powers called The Innocents, made by a writer / director named Eskil Vogt. In addition to directing the film Blind, which made my Top 10 in 2014, Vogt is also a co-writer on the Oscar-nominated The Worst Person in the World with his fellow filmmaker Joachim Trier. But this one is a bit scarier. During the bright Nordic summer, a group of children reveal their dark and mysterious powers when the adults aren't looking. In this original, gripping supernatural thriller, playtime takes a dangerous turn. The films stars Rakel Lenora Fløttum as Ida, Alva Brynsmo Ramstad as Anna, Sam Ashraf as Ben, and Mina Yasmin Bremseth Asheim as Aisha. I caught this in Cannes and it's seriously unsettling, though I wasn't the biggest fan of the film overall. But still worth a look - especially if weird kids scare you. ›››

Panah Panahi's Cannes Favorite 'Hit the Road' Official US Trailer

"One day, we'll laugh at all this." Kino Lorber has revealed an official trailer for Hit the Road, an award-winning, outstanding little indie film from Iran. It's the feature debut of filmmaker Panah Panahi, who just so happens to be the son of acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi. This premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival last year in the Director's Fortnight section and ended up with tons of rave reviews (one of my favorites of the fest). The film follows a chaotic, tender Iranian family that has embarked upon a a road trip across a rugged landscape and fussing over the sick dog and getting on each others' nerves along the way. Only the mysterious older brother is quiet, as he is headed somewhere else. Panah Panahi "makes a striking feature debut with this charming, sharp-witted, and deeply moving comic drama." The film stars Pantea Panahiha, Hasan Majuni, Rayan Sarlak, and Amin Simiar. This is one of the best international films from last year that everyone must see when they get a chance. "Gravity is broken - leap as you like." Netflix has debuted the full-length trailer for a new anime film called Bubble, from "Death Note" and "Attack on Titan" filmmaker Tetsuro Araki. Here's the concept: The story is set in Tokyo, after bubbles that broke the laws of gravity rained down on the world. Cut off from the outside world, Tokyo has become a playground for a group of young people who have lost their families, acting as a battlefield for parkour team battles as they leap from building to building. Hibiki, a young ace known for his dangerous play style, makes a reckless move one day and plummets into the gravity-bending sea. His life is saved by Uta, a girl with mysterious powers. The pair then hear a unique sound audible only to them. Why did Uta appear before Hibiki? Their encounter leads to a revelation that will change the world. The voice cast features Jun Shison, Mamoru Miyano, Yuki Kaji, and Tasuku Hatanaka. This looks super trippy and creative, with so many ambitious ideas in one movie. What is going onnn?! In addition, Véra, her faithful secretary, employed three ex-convict employees without any gardening skills. They must team up to rescue the business and save her flowers. La Fine Fleur (which translates to The Fine Flower) stars Catherine Frot, Manel Foulgoc, Fatsah Bouyahmed, Olivia Côte, Marie Petiot, Vincent Dedienne, as well as Rukkmini Ghosh. It doesn't sound like much, but the reviews are comparing this to Spielberg and Zemeckis. Ryan Reynolds teams up with a younger version of himself, confronting both his past and troubles growing up, while also saving the future. The cast includes Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, Walker Scobell, with Catherine Keener, and Zoe Saldaña. From director Shawn Levy, who recently made Free Guy with Reynolds.
