First Trailer for Netflix's Wild 'Halston' Series Starring Ewan McGregor

"The one thing you don't know how to do is stop!" Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for a mini-series titled Halston, a fictional tale of the life and times of the famed fashion designer known only as "Halston". Ewan McGregor stars as Halston, who was also profiled in the recent documentary feature also titled just Halston. The series will run five episodes and tracks Halston as he leverages his single, invented name into a worldwide fashion empire that's synonymous with luxury, sex, status and fame, literally defining the era he lives in – 1970s & '80s New York City. In addition to McGregor, the cast features Bill Pullman, Rebecca Dayan, David Pittu, Krysta Rodriguez (as Liza Minnelli), Kelly Bishop, Gian Franco Rodriguez, Rory Culkin (as a young Joel Schumacher), Sullivan Jones, and Vera Farmiga. Watch: Lovely Video Essay Highlighting 'The Cinema of Chloé Zhao'

"Zhao isn't interested in making issue films, she's interested in hopes and dreams." Well said. Just a week ago, filmmaker Chloé Zhao became only the second woman in Academy Award history to win the Oscar for Best Director. She also won another Oscar that night for Best Picture, and Frances McDormand won for Best Actress, in Nomadland. Nomadland is only her third feature film, following Songs My Brothers Taught Me (2015) and The Rider (2017), but she's already being studied in-depth by cinephiles. UK-based filmmaker Margarita Milne has put together a fabulous video essay titled The Cinema of Chloé Zhao, focusing on various aspects of her films that make them unique. Watch: 'Allergy to Originality' Animated Short Doc by Drew Christie

"Has Hollywood developed an allergy to originality?" A good question! This was made in 2012, and it first premiered in 2014, but it's still as relevant as ever nine years later. Allergy to Originality is an amusing animated short film about a conversation between two people at a movie theater. It's about originality, or really, it's a defense of the lack of originality insomuch as referencing the truth that pretty much every idea or thought is a derivation of something else / someone else's thoughts. This short was created in 2012, and the marquee features some of the biggest movies that summer: Men in Black 3, Madagascar 3, Prometheus, Dark Shadows, The Avengers, and Snow White (and the Huntsman). Featuring the voices of Ian Picco and Spencer Thun. I don't entirely agree with all the points made in this, but it is interesting to consider. Review: Ben Sharrock's 'Limbo' is One of the Best Refugee Films Yet

"I cannot be myself back home." I need to write about this film because it's the best film I've seen in 2021 so far, and I've been thinking about it all the time since watching. Limbo is a dark comedy about the refugee experience in the UK written & directed by British filmmaker Ben Sharrock, and it was initially supposed to premiere at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival last year (before it was cancelled). Instead, it premiered at the Toronto, San Sebastian, Zurich, and London Film Festivals in the fall, and it has already been earning rave reviews. I'm so glad I finally caught up with it. Limbo would be my top pick for the Palme d'Or if Cannes had happened, really truly. I honestly want to drop the m word and call this a masterpiece. I loved it so much. It's perfect, there's not a thing to change about it. It even sticks the landing - in a seriously exhilarating way. ›››
