First Trailer for Psychological Thriller 'Kindred' with Tamara Lawrance

"You're not well… You don't even seem to realize that." IFC Midnight has revealed the first official trailer for a "psychological thriller rippling with suspense" titled Kindred, from filmmaker Joe Marcantonio. This one is skipping out on October entirely, and opening at the beginning of November this fall. Kindred follows vulnerable mother-to-be Charlotte, played by Tamara Lawrance (seen in On Chesil Beach, "Undercover", "No Offence"), as she is taken in by her recently deceased boyfriend's mother and her step-son, who seem increasingly obsessed with her every move. Soon plagued by strange hallucinations, Charlotte's suspicions grow about Margaret and Thomas' intentions for her unborn child. The cast includes Fiona Shaw, Jack Lowden, Edward Holcroft, Chloe Pirrie, & Anton Lesser. This looks extra discomforting and intense, especially when all the weird things start happening in the second half of the trailer. Definitely worth a look. ›››

Mongrel Media in Canada has revealed the first Canadian trailer for an indie literary drama titled My Salinger Year, the latest film from Quebecois filmmaker Philippe Falardeau (Monsieur Lazhar, The Good Lie, Chuck). Based on the international best-selling novel, My Salinger Year follows Joanna a young aspiring writer who lands a job at J.D. Salinger's literary agency in New York City. She is assigned the tedious task of responding to the piles of fan mail that Salinger receives (everyone loves Catcher in the Rye, of course). Starring Margaret Qualley as Joanna, Sigourney Weaver as her boss, also joined by Douglas Booth, Seána Kerslake, Brían F. O'Byrne, Théodore Pellerin, Yanic Truesdale, Hamza Haq, and Colm Feore. I caught this at Berlinale earlier in the year, and it's a solid film, an nice ode to writers and the mind it takes to be someone "extraordinary". ›››

"The forests of Appalachia hide an ancient secret…" Now that it's October, it's time to get creepy with scary stories of all kinds. 1091 Pics has released an official trailer for a monster myth documentary film titled The Mothman Legacy, from monster myth filmmaker Seth Breedlove (The Bray Road Beast, On the Trail of Bigfoot). This is a separate film from the The Mothman Prophecies horror, or the other horror titled just Mothman. The Mothman Legacy tells the story of one of the most frightening American urban myths, the legend of The Mothman, a red-eyed creature seen by some as a harbinger of doom in 1960s rural West Virginia, where sightings of the winged demonic beast were first documented near an old munitions dump. There's some genuinely frightening footage in this film, and I appreciate all the imagery and creepy shots. This feels like a real-life horror film, which (IMO) is the best way to tell these monster myth stories. Dive in. ›››
