Quiver Dist. has released an official trailer for a peculiar, fascinating new sci-fi feature titled LX 2048, a new film from filmmaker Guy Moshe who hasn't made anything since Bunraku back in 2010 (remember that one?). The concept for this is very, very timely and a clear reference to what's going on these days. In the near future, the sun has become so toxic people can no longer leave their houses in daytime, and normal life is conducted mostly inside the virtual realm. Everyone is so depressed they're prescribed a drug called 001LithiumX (which was the original title of the film). Against this dystopian backdrop, a dying man seeks to ensure the well-being of his family, while coping with what it means to be human in this new reality. Starring James D'Arcy as Adam, along with Gina McKee, Delroy Lindo, Anna Brewster, and Juliet Aubrey. I love mega sci-fi concepts like this! And it looks like he got the world just right. First Teaser for Horror Anthology Series 'Welcome to the Blumhouse'

"'I run my mind, it does not run me.' Say it with me…" Amazon has released the first teaser trailer for the first four films in a brand new horror anthology series titled Welcome to the Blumhouse. The series will launch eight full-length genre films from talented up-and-coming filmmakers, produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse, and released streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The first four films will be available to watch this October: Black Box directed by Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour Jr., Evil Eye co-directed by Elan Dassani & Rajeev Dassani, The Lie directed by Veena Sud, and Nocturne directed by Zu Quirke are the first four of eight films in the "Welcome to the Blumhouse" series - each one teased in this trailer which also features the song "What's Up" by Fjøra. Cooper Raiff Tries to Navigate Lonely College Life in 'Shithouse' Trailer

"Are you that was, um, the girl?" IFC Films has debuted the first official trailer for a college comedy titled Shithouse, or the censored version S#!%house. This originally premiered at the (cancelled) SXSW Film Festival earlier this year, where it won the Grand Jury Prize, as the jury still watched. A homesick college freshman goes to a party at Shithouse – a legendary party fraternity – and ends up spending the night with his sophomore RA who's had a shitty day and wants someone to hang out with. Raiff "put together a movie with great friends and stolen equipment, and in a burst of bravery, tweeted the link to Jay Duplass. To his surprise, Duplass liked the movie enough to help him develop it into the version of Shithouse that made its world premiere at SXSW. The Show Must Go On - The 2020 Venice Film Festival is Underway

The show must go on… That's the classic show business phrase that really is the best way to describe what's happening this week. "Meaning that regardless of what happens, whatever show has been planned still has to be staged for the waiting patrons." The 77th Venice Film Festival kicks off today in Italy. Even though every other festival, including Cannes and Telluride, has been cancelled this year, Venice must go on. Even Toronto, which will have some screenings in the city, has shifted almost entirely online instead. But here in Italy, they're trying the opposite. Is it all about ego? Who knows… The red carpet is now sheltered by a giant wall that provides "social distancing" for the celebrities, but it basically just turns the festival into a private no-fans, industry-only event. Which may be for the better anyway? But is definitely a sign that this is no ordinary year for film festivals. Yet there are films to show, and they're still premiering for these two weeks. ›››
