First Trailer for 'Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound' Doc Film

"Your job is to come up with the unimaginable." Dogwoof has unveiled the first official trailer for an indie documentary titled Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound, which is a film about sound design in cinema. This premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, and also played at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. It's the most comprehensive film about sound design so far, made by an experienced sound editor named Midge Costin (she worked on Days of Thunder, Crimson Tide, Broken Arrow, The Rock, Con Air, and Armageddon). An exploration of the history, artistry, & emotional power of cinema sound, as revealed by legendary sound designers and visionary directors, via interviews, clips from movies, and a look at their actual process of creation and discovery. Watch: Cute Stop-Motion Short 'Mogu & Perol' Made by Tsuneo Goda

"I'm-- so-- hungryyyy--!!" This new short film from the creator of DOMU is super adorable and makes my stomach growl for tasty food. Mogu & Perol is a story about two friends living on an island where delicious food can be found everywhere. As the title says, it's about Mogu: "A young Big Foot boy who loves nothing more than cooking a delicious meal." And Perol: "A spoiled little girl with a BIG appetite who doesn't know the first thing about cooking." Dwarf Studios' website lists this short film as an "episode", so perhaps they're going to make more of these to release online featuring Mogu & Perol cooking things up. All the food in this looks so incredibly delicious, don't watch on an empty stomach or only watch with some food to munch on. ›››

First Trailer for Roy Andersson's 'About Endlessness' Premiering in Venice

"It's September already." Cinetic has debuted a festival promo trailer for the new film from iconic Swedish filmmaker Roy Andersson, titled About Endlessness. This premieres at the Venice Film Festival this week, which is why the trailer has arrived, and then it will stop by the Toronto Film Festival next after that. Andersson's last film was A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence in 2014, and this one looks just as bleak and absurd and fascinating. As is usual with his films anyway, this one only features a description that says it is "a reflection on human life in all its beauty and cruelty, its splendour and banality." Featuring Tatiana Delaunay and Martin Serner. Andersson is one of those funky niche filmmakers that not many are familiar with, but he has a very distinct style and I highly recommend exploring his work if you're brave enough. I'm curious about watching this one and enjoying its bleakness. Nothing like a Roy Andersson film. ›››

Dreamville has released the full official trailer for an American documentary titled Out of Omaha, which premiered at the DocNYC Festival last year and won the main Audience Award prize. The latest feature from acclaimed doc filmmaker J. Clay Tweel (of Print the Legend, Finders Keepers, Gleason), the film is about two black brothers overcoming systemic injustice in the city of Omaha, Nebraska (with a population of 460,000, but less than 13% of them are black). Roadside Attractions has debuted an official trailer for the French historical drama Cyrano, My Love, which premiered last year and opened in most of Europe at the beginning of this year. The film is about Edmond Rostand, played by Thomas Solivérès, a famous playwright who is struggling to figure out his next project before he turns 30. Ignoring the whims of actresses, the demands of his producers, the jealousy of his wife, his best friend's heart and the lack of enthusiasm of all those around him, Edmond must focus and put to pen to paper. For now, he has only the title: "Cyrano de Bergerac". The cast includes Olivier Gourmet, Mathilde Seigner, Tom Leeb, Lucie Boujenah, Alice de Lencquesaing, Clémentine Célarié, and Igor Gotesman.
