Step aside Out of Sight, it's time for a Linklater crime romantic comedy to become everyone's new favorite. One of the biggest surprises of the 2023 Venice Film Festival is Richard Linklater's 22nd feature film titled Hit Man. It blew the roof off the press screening with ~1000 of us laughing and cheering louder than any other film I've seen at Venice this year (only Poor Things has had the same rapturous response). All of these different critics and movie lovers, from all over the world, usually a very tough crowd, totally lost themselves having a blast with this. It's that amazing. It's going to be heralded as instant classic, automatic favorite, play-this-movie-whenever-you-need-a-feel-good-laugh all-timer. It's a "hitman" comedy in the sense that it plays with the hitman genre (also see Fincher's The Killer playing in Venice) but it also tells its own unique story, following a teacher in New Orleans who starts working as an undercover "fake hitman" for the police. // Continue Reading ›
