US Trailer for Korean Plane Thriller 'Hijack 1971' Based on a True Story

Hijack 1971 Trailer
"We're heading North. There's no dodging this." Sony Pictures has revealed the official trailer for an action thriller survival movie called Hijack 1971, based on a true story of a flight in winter of 1971. It just opened in South Korea last week, and will also be opening in select US theaters starting next week - glad to see them finally releasing films the same time they open in other countries. Hijack 1971, also known as just Hijacking in Korean, depicts the story of people fighting for their lives in an extreme situation when a passenger plane is hijacked in the air space of Korea in 1971. Starring Ha Jung-woo as Tae-in, the first officer of the plane; Sung Dong-il as Gyu-sik, captain of the flight; Yeo Jin-goo as Yong-dae, the terrorist hijacker; and Chae Soo-bin as Lee Ok-soon, a flight attendant on the flight. The hijacker used homemade grenades on a twin prop plane, causing injuries including to one of the pilots – who still try their best to land the plane safely. Looks seriously intense, as one would expect a hijacking movie to look, though this does seem over-the-top. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for 'Tokyo Cowboy' About a Japanese Man in Montana

Tokyo Cowboy Trailer
"You really are a long way from home, aren't ya?" Purdie Distr. has debuted the official US trailer for an indie drama titled Tokyo Cowboy, from filmmaker Marc Marriott making his feature directorial debut. This premiered last year at the 2023 Tallgrass Film Festival, where it won Best Narrative Feature, and it also played at the Boston, Sedona, Newport Beach, and Heartland Film Festivals. A Japanese businessman goes on an unwitting journey of self-discovery when he takes a company trip from Tokyo all the way out to a Montana cattle ranch. When his Hardee's-burger-loving Japanese Wagyu-beef expert fails him, he is poised to misfire magnificently, unless he can figure out his own issues. "Now unsettled and off the grid in an alien culture, Hideki recalibrates his values and his life goals. Director Marc Marriott and cinematographer Oscar Ignacio Jiménez create a Big Sky setting that could reset any of us in need of self-discovery." Starring Arata Iura as Hideki, with Ayako Fujitani, Goya Robles, Robin Weigert, & Jun Kunimura. Where did this come from? I want to watch - it looks quite good. Plenty of wholesome humor in this fish-out-of-water story. // Continue Reading ›

An Inside Look Trailer for Apple TV+'s 'WondLa' Animated Adventure

WondLa Inside Look Trailer
"It is unparalleled immersion." Now streaming if you want to give it a look. Apple TV has revealed a final "Inside Look" promo trailer for the WondLa animated series, an adaptation of a trilogy of books originally titled "The Search for WondLa". It's available this weekend on Apple TV+. "No amount of training could prepare Eva for what she'd find beyond her bunker walls." Eva is a typical teen: curious, enthusiastic, and spirited. However, she's being raised alone by a robot caretaker, Muthr, in a state-of-the-art underground bunker. An attack on her sanctuary forces her onto the surface, and it's not what she expected. The planet is now inhabited by aliens, covered with otherworldly fauna, and there are no other humans to be found. Otto, a lovable giant waterbear with whom Eva shares telepathic powers, Rovender, a cantankerous alien with a troubled past, and Muthr join Eva as she embarks on a quest to find any other humans and learn her true destiny. With the voices of Jeanine Mason, Teri Hatcher, Brad Garrett, Gary Anthony Williams, Alan Tudyk, D.C. Douglas, Chiké Okonkwo. This is sort of a behind-the-scenes featurette, but it's also a trailer with more stunning footage. This series looks really good, I just hope the rest is interesting enough. // Continue Reading ›

Warner Bros Sets Denis Villeneuve's Next Movie to Open in Late 2026

Denis Villeneuve
A bit of exciting release date news from Hollywood this evening. Warner Bros has set a new release date for the next Denis Villeneuve movie. It will be opening in theaters nationwide on December 18th, 2026 - also in IMAX. The only catch so far is they didn't reveal a title or what the movie is, or any details beyond that it is Villeneuve's next. One rumor is could actually be Dune 3 - also known as Dune: Messiah, which is apparently being prepared & pushed ahead. The other possibility is an already-in-the-works adaptation of the book Nuclear War: A Scenario, a chilling look at what might actually happen if a nuke went off. Though of course there's a possibility it might end up being something else entirely different. Villeneuve was already quoted during the Dune 2 press tour saying that he wanted to make something else other than (another) Dune next, but we'll have to wait and find out exactly what it is in the works. For now it means WB is now planning the production timeline on whatever it is that Villeneuve has cooked up next - for his 12th feature. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for 'Sebastian' LGBTQ Drama Starring Ruaridh Mollica

Sebastian Trailer
"You need to carry on and finish it." Kino Lorber has revealed an official trailer for an indie LGBTQ drama titled Sebastian, made by a Finnish-British filmmaker named Mikko Mäkelä. This originally premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and it also played at the Provincetown & Frameline Film Festivals. Sebastian follows a burgeoning young journalist who turns to sex work to research his first novel. But where will this lead him? What will he discover? Another intimate, hypnotic exploration of repressed sexuality through cinema. Posing tantalizing questions about the creative process and the recurring cultural conversations about authenticity in art and who can / should tell certain stories, the film stars Ruaridh Mollica as Max, aka Sebastian, whose "fearless lead performance should elevate him to rising star status", and who has already been cast based on his work here in the upcoming HBO series from Armando Iannucci called "The Franchise". The cast includes Hiftu Quasem, Jonathan Hyde, Ingvar Sigurdsson, Dylan Brady, Pedro Minas, Matthias Moret, Akbar Kurtha, and Laurent Maria. This one is worth a look. // Continue Reading ›

First Look Featurette for Terrific 'Sing Sing' Film with Colman Domingo

Sing Sing First Look
"Everyone on the movie collectively owns the movie." A24 has unveiled another beautiful promo featurette for Sing Sing, directed by filmmaker Greg Kwedar. This initially premiered at last year's 2023 Toronto Film Festival to rave reviews, with many critics calling it one of the best of the fest. It's ready to open in art house theaters starting in July and will expand into more cities in August - check your local listings. Oscar nominee Colman Domingo stars in a rapturous role as Divine G – imprisoned at Sing Sing for a crime he didn't commit, he finds purpose by acting in a theatre group alongside other incarcerated men, including a wary newcomer – in this "stirring true story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art," starring an unforgettable ensemble cast of formerly incarcerated actors. Which makes a very big difference. Based on the real-life arts rehabilitation programme founded at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, Kwedar's film follows a troupe of incarcerated actors working on a play. Also starring Clarence Maclin, Sean San Jose, and Paul Raci. This is such a lovely video focusing on how the film is an expression of brotherhood, a connection of everyone who contributed to making it. (Here's the full trailer.) I cannot wait to watch this. // Continue Reading ›

Rivals Teaser Trailer
"It' quite innocent." Get ready for some debaucherous 80s fun! Set within the social elite of 1980s England, Rivals stars Alex Hassell as Rupert Campbell-Black, an ex-Olympian & Member of Parliament who is described as "an incorrigible rake, and dangerously charismatic." David Tennant in turn plays Lord Tony Baddingham, controller of Corinium Television — and Rupert's single-mindedly ambitious and egotistical foe. Set against the backdrop of the drama, excess, and shocking antics of the power-grabbing social elite of 1980s England, Rivals delves headfirst into the ruthless world of independent television in 1986 – where it's every man and woman for themselves. This TV series also stars Bella Maclean as Taggie O’Hara, Katherine Parkinson as Lizzie, Nafessa Williams as Cameron Cook, Emily Atack as Sarah Stratton, Catriona Chandler as Caitlin O'Hara, with Oliver Chris, Danny Dyer, Rufus Jones, Lisa McGrillis, Luke Pasqualino, Claire Rushbrook, and Victoria Smurfit. Official Trailer for 'War Game' Realistic American Coup Simulation Doc

War Game Trailer
"Six hours to save democracy." Decal & Submarine Deluxe have unveiled an official trailer for a deeply unsettling, fascinating, unforgettable documentary film titled War Game, from directors Jesse Moss (The Overnighters, Boys State, Girls State, Mayor Pete, The Mission) & Tony Gerber. This first premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and caused quite a stir, attracting plenty of attention. The film is a "real-life political thriller" set on January 6, 2025 – War Game imagines a nation-wide insurrection in which some members of the US military defect in support of the losing Presidential candidate, while the winning candidate and his many advisors—played by an all-star roster of senior officials from the last five administrations (who actually know these jobs)—war games the crisis in the White House situation room. They have 6 hours to save democracy as the country teeters on the brink of civil war. In this doc, prestigious US officials simulate a coup after a disputed election. Insurgents take capitals, questioning the president's military control. Countering disinformation is vital, while highlighting bipartisan defense of democracy. It's a frightening look at something that could really happen - and how it might play out. Take a look if you dare. // Continue Reading ›

Impressive Full Trailer for 'Batman: Caped Crusader' Animated Series

Batman: Caped Crusader Trailer
"We could be looking at an all-out gang war on the streets of Gotham." Prime Video has revealed the full official trailer for a kick ass new animated series called Batman: Caped Crusader, arriving for streaming in August this summer. Another fresh new take on Batman in animated form, this time it's developed by Matt Reeves as he continues to work on his The Batman sequel (and The Penguin spin-off series). It's also co-developed by J.J. Abrams and Bruce Timm. Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human—the Batman. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies, but his heroic actions will also spawn unforeseen consequences. It's described as a "re-imagining" though this also seems to be an animated update based on The Batman movie. With the voices of Hamish Linklater as Bruce/Bats, Christina Ricci as Catwoman, Jamie Chung as Harley Quinn, Diedrich Bader as Harvey Dent, Mckenna Grace, Minnie Driver, Reid Scott, Jason Watkins, Tom Kenny, and John DiMaggio. There was the 1980s video game called Batman: The Caped Crusader, but this looks a lot like the classic 90s Batman Animated Series series as well. // Continue Reading ›

The Duel Trailer
"All of this is crazy." Lionsgate Movies has revealed an official trailer for an indie comedy called The Duel, marking the feature directorial debut of two young filmmakers Justin Matthews (Upgraded, "The Morning Show") and Luke Spencer Roberts. This originally premiered at the 2023 Mammoth Film Festival last year and it played at a few other small festivals. Not to be confused with the 2016 western also called The Duel with Woody Harrelson. In this one, when Woody (no connection to Harrelson) finds out his best friend has been sleeping with his girlfriend, he challenges him to a duel, taking their friend group across the border to a mysterious and stunning estate. When two of their friends join the act, the once inseparable group of men inch closer to the day of destiny and test the bonds of their relationship until the moment of no return. The film stars Dylan Sprouse (who also executive produced) & Callan McAuliffe, with Denny Love, Hart Denton, María Gabriela De Faría, Rachel Matthews, Christian McGaffney, Ronald Guttman, and Patrick Warburton. First Trailer for Zemeckis' Single Shot 'Here' Movie Starring Tom Hanks

Here Trailer
"This was our home. We lived here." Sony Pictures has debuted the first official trailer for Here, the brand new Robert Zemeckis movie arriving in theaters this fall. It's currently set for release in November, and is expected to premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival in a few months. The film takes place over 100 years in one living room. The camera will not move, change angles or even zoom in. From the reunited director, writer, and stars of Forrest Gump, Zemeckis' Here is an original film about multiple families and a special place they inhabit. The story travels through generations in one place, capturing the human experience in its purest form. Starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, along with Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly, Michelle Dockery, and others. This is a bold concept for a movie - though it's similar to theater where it all takes place in one location over time. There's also tons of CGI de-aging going on with both Hanks & Wright, and it doesn't all look perfect yet, but I'll see how it plays in context with the movie. The coolest part about this is the location starts out millions of years ago with the dinosaurs. Awesome! I hope it goes into the future, too. // Continue Reading ›

New Trailer for 'Caligula: The Ultimate Cut' 4K Reconstruction Release

Caligula: The Ultimate Cut Trailer
"The most notorious Emperor in history returns..." Drafthouse Films has unveiled a new official trailer for Caligula: The Ultimate Cut, a 4K restoration of the infamous erotic classic. The epic Italian film follows Caligula as he kills his devious adoptive grandfather and takes control of the decadent Roman Empire, soon spiraling into depravity, devastation, and utter madness. "Drafthouse Films is a beacon of excellence and taste in independent cinema, and in the 3 years while I was constructing the film I hoped that they would be involved in bringing Caligula: The Ultimate Cut to American audiences," states producer Thomas Negovan. This brand new "Ultimate Cut" is a completely fresh reconstruction based on tons of footage found in the Penthouse archive. They removed all the depravity that was controversially added during the first release, and it has been restored to what should've been all along. "Graphic artist Dave McKean added a prologue that illustrates one of Vidal's missing scenes, and composer Troy Sterling Nies created a new wraparound score." Caligula stars Malcolm McDowell, Helen Mirren, Teresa Ann Savoy, Peter O'Toole, John Gielgud, John Steiner, & Guido Mannari. It's getting a proper theatrical re-release this August. On the Water Horror Thriller Film 'Dead Sea' Trailer - FKA 'Flycatcher'

Dead Sea Trailer
"One down, two to go." Vertical has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror thriller film titled Dead Sea, formerly known as Flycatcher before the title change for its release. Is either title good? This hasn't played at any film festivals, but it was picked up during an AFM sale a few years ago. Stranded in the open sea after a fatal jet ski accident, a young woman and her two friends are rescued by a fishing vessel's captain, unaware that the ship harbors a chilling secret. From this trailer, it looks like it's an organ harvesting vessel - this seems to be like Eli Roth's Hostel but on a boat. Dead Sea stars Isabel Gravitt, Genneya Walton, Alexander Wraith, with Dean Cameron, Garrett Wareing, Al Burke, Brian Silverman, and Koa Tom. Set for the typical VOD right away release later in July this summer. Doesn't look like there's much to get excited about with this one, yet another generic horror with all the usual scary tropes and young women. // Continue Reading ›

Crime Thriller 'The Girl in the Pool' Trailer Starring Freddie Prinze Jr.

The Girl in the Pool Trailer
"Just stop and admit to my daughter what you're really upset about." Quiver Distr. has revealed an official trailer for an indie thriller titled The Girl in the Pool, directed by Dakota Gorman. This is another one of these low-rent, junk thrillers being passed off as something true crime obsessed audiences of today might want to see. How long has it been since we've seen Freddie Prinze Jr. in anything? So he's back? Prinze Jr. stars as Tom, who "reflects on one final rendezvous with a woman he is having an affair with — shortly before that same woman is found dead in his pool. To complicate matters, Tom's wife and his family throw him a surprise birthday party in the same backyard. At the party, Tom's shock is noticed by those around him, including his father-in-law and a man who arrives at his home saying he is looking for his wife." What will happen next? Will his perfect life fall apart? (Probably...) Also starring Monica Potter, Kevin Pollak, Tyler Lawrence Gray, Brielle Barbusca, & Gabrielle Haugh. The Girl in the Pool reunites the actors Prinze Jr. & Potter 23 years after they were in 2001's Head Over Heels together. Though it looks forgettable. // Continue Reading ›

New Trailer for 'Grassland' Film About Marijuana Starring Mia Maestro

Grassland Trailer
"Having a little pot makes you a criminal?" No, no it doesn't. An official promo trailer is available for an indie film titled Grassland, the first feature film made by two up-and-coming filmmakers Sam Friedman and William Bermudez based in LA. This recently premiered at the 2024 Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival a few weeks ago. The film, which is executive produced by Common, explores the failures of the criminal justice system through a different POV, and is a riveting social justice thriller highlighting the perils of marijuana incarceration. The story follows a single Latina mother, starring Mía Maestro, whose illegal marijuana business is put at risk when her young son Leo, portrayed by Ravi Cabot-Conyers (from Encanto), befriends their new neighbors who move in downstairs—a white boy played by Sean Convery and his police officer grandfather. It also stars Quincy Isaiah, Jeff Kober, and Rachel Ticotin. I'm glad stories like this are being told, but it seems so melodramatic. Festival Trailer for Animated Film 'Diplodocus' with a Little Dinosaur

Diplodocus Trailer
"You know what? Why aren't we doing what we want?!" An early promo trailer is available online for the Polish animated movie titled Diplodocus, an especially unique creation about a little green dinosaur from filmmaker Wojtek Wawszczyk. You have to get a look at this! The independent animated film just premiered at the 2024 Annecy Film Festival last month (here's my review). Little dino Diplodocus ends up on a magical adventure to save his parents who have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Alongside a wizard and two quirky scientists, he encounters fantastical creatures and amazing places along the way. It's not at all anything like Pixar's The Good Dinosaur, it's a different multiverse-hopping, meta, wacky adventure. The comic book artist segment is live-action, and he is told to erase these characters to create something more "cute" like a kitty, and in the animated world, everything begins to literally be erased. It's a remarkably fun concept, and all the characters are amusing and slightly weird, but it makes for an entertaining experience. // Continue Reading ›

The non-stop joke fest stars some of Australia’s finest comedians: Damian Callinan, Lisa Fineberg, Aaron Gocs, Dane Simpson, Ben Russell, Jonathan Schuster, Lena Moon, Cameron James, Ethan Marrell, and Luke McGregor. Alas there's no US release set for this yet. It looks hilarious! Just like the spoof movies of the 80s & 90s that they don't make anymore. I'm in. // Continue Reading ›

Annecy Review: 'Diplodocus' is a Peculiar Meta Story About Creativity

Diplodocus Review
Yet another animation creation unlike anything ever seen before. The Polish animated film Diplodocus is finally finished & ready to wow everyone. It just premiered at the 2024 Annecy Film Festival in the out-of-competition Annecy Presents section. Director Wojtek Wawszczyk has been working on this project for years, and was able to finish it with financing help from the Polish Film Institute. At first glance, Diplodocus seems like another generic animated film about a super cute little green dinosaur known as Diplo, or Dip, short for "Diplodocus" (of course). I've already seen some critics comparing it to Pixar's The Good Dinosaur (2015), though only because the characters look the same. It also reminds me of the 1988 classic The Land Before Time, also about talking dinosaurs. But in reality, it's nothing like either of these films. Diplodocus is exceptionally ambitious. It's a half live-action, half-animated tale of a precocious, adventurous dinosaur and his strange friends hopping through different universes trying to get their creator to not erase them and turn them into cute, easy-to-sell characters. It is a massively charming, odd movie that defies any categorization. // Continue Reading ›

Trailer #2 for 'Fly Me to the Moon' RomCom with Johansson & Tatum

Fly Me to the Moon Trailer #2
"If you fake this mission, everything that we have sacrificed will have been for nothing!" Sony Pictures & Apple TV have revealed a second official trailer for Fly Me to the Moon, a romantic comedy from writer / filmmaker Greg Berlanti (also of Love, Simon). It's opening in theaters nationwide in July, getting a proper release before streaming on Apple TV. A big mainstream comedy set during the Apollo 11 moon landing era of NASA - about creating a fake moon landing "backup". Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum star as a 1960s ad shark and a by-the-book launch director on a mission set against the high-stakes backdrop of NASA's historic moon landing. Marketing maven Kelly Jones wreaks havoc on launch director Cole Davis's already difficult task. When the White House deems the mission too important to fail, Jones is directed to stage a fake moon landing as alternative incase they need it. In addition to Johansson and Tatum, this also stars Nick Dillenburg, Anna Garcia, Jim Rash, Noah Robbins, Colin Woodell, Christian Zuber, Donald Elise Watkins, with Ray Romano, and Woody Harrelson. This looks like a sweet romcom but not exactly that geeky or that funny. Still looks like it'll be harmless fun this summer. Who wants to watch? // Continue Reading ›

Sinister Trailer for 'The Front Room' Horror Starring Brandy Norwood

The Front Room Trailer
"She thinks that the holy spirit possess her, and gives her power." A24 has unveiled the official trailer for a horror thriller titled The Front Room, marking the feature directorial debut of the Eggers Brothers - Max and Sam. They're also brothers of the other filmmaker Robert Eggers (of The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman) and worked with him on a few of those films before making their own film. Opening in theaters this September. The Front Room is about a young, newly pregnant couple who is forced to take in an ailing, estranged stepmother. A24 describes it as: the incomparable Brandy returns to horror in a legendary face-off against Kathryn Hunter, the wickedest mother-in-law of them all. Starring singer / actress Brandy Norwood as Belinda, with Andrew Burnap, Neal Huff, and Kathryn Hunter. This looks like it's inspired by Get Out, with some creepy racist vibes permeating all the horror. It's kooky and frightening! Take a look. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for Netflix Doc 'Simone Biles Rising' About the Gymnast

Simone Biles Rising Trailer
"She's the greatest in the world, but she's also human." Netflix has revealed the main official trailer for a documentary series streaming this summer called Simone Biles Rising, telling the inspiring story of the famous American gymnast. From the same producer who also worked on the "Simone vs Herself" series. Witness unprecedented access to one of the most powerful comebacks in sports in Simone Biles Rising. Journey into the world of Simone as she grapples with vulnerability and self-doubt, redefining what it means to be a "champion" on her own terms. "While her athletic abilities are unmatched, it's the human component to her story that I'm proud to share," director Katie Walsh states. Watch: Short Film 'SPOTS: A Way of Seeing'- A Skateboarder Analysis

Spots: A Way of Seeing Short Film
"Why can't you go skate at the skatepark instead?" Ah yes, the frustrating question skateboarders are asked day after day. This clever short titled SPOTS: A Way of Seeing addresses that question with thoughtful scientific analysis. Spots is a short film from skateboarder / filmmaker Daniel Paese, taking a close look at the "spots" skaters choose and what makes them so appealing. It's a visual presentation by Paese's research facility delving into the phenomena of "SPOTS" - showing everyone why they love to skate around on the "wild" architecture of the streets... "The world of naturally occurring spots is so vast and complex, that it is virtually impossible to catalog and define in its entirety." Starring Avery Miller, Max Wheeler, Alex Kehoe, Austin Garner, Chris Landers. I dig everything about this! The narration is fun, the editing is (ahem) spot on, the shots are clean. It really does feel like I learned something watching this. Check it out! Enjoy below. // Continue Reading ›

A Soldier Trapped in a Mysterious Cube 'The Abandon' Sci-Fi Trailer

The Abandon Trailer
"Whoever they are – they want something." Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for a sci-fi thriller film titled The Abandon, set for a VOD release in July. This initially premiered back in 2022 at the Mammoth Film Festival and Panic Fest (here's the early teaser), only getting a proper release now years later. It's from the same filmmaker who made the two hit Star Wars fan films a few years back - Kenobi and The Force And The Fury. A wounded soldier suddenly awakens in a strange cube that tests his physical and mental limits as he attempts to find a way to escape against a ticking clock. He reaches another person on a phone, but cube room begins to change: fluctuating extreme temperatures, random shifts of gravity, and strange writing on the walls. Starring Jonathan Rosenthal, Tamara Perry, & Regis Terencio. Of course this is borrowing from the original Cube, but it also seems like it has a few of its own tricks up its sleeve. My initial guess is this is all in his head because he's in a coma, but the poster seems like he's actually out in space somewhere? // Continue Reading ›

Meet the Cat Featurette for 'A Quiet Place: Day One' - Opening Soon

A Quiet Place: Day One Featurette
"This is Frodo." Paramount has revealed another fun featurette for the sci-fi prequel A Quiet Place: Day One, arriving in theaters very soon at the end of June. This making of promo focuses on the cat character in the movie, named Frodo (played by two showbiz kitties which in real life named Nico and Schnitzel). The cat seems to play a major role in the story - it probably survives the entire movie, too, because of course it does. Lupita Nyong'o stars as a woman named Sam who gets caught up in the apocalyptic New York City mayhem when the alien creatures arrive and attack. As every street goes quiet, she is thrown together with a man named Eric. With some reluctance, the pair agree to navigate and survive the city together. The cast also includes Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou, & Denis O'Hare. I would watch an entire behind-the-scenes doc about making this movie with these acting cats! I always love seeing actual behind-the-scenes footage of the set and what it was like to be there while filming. Such a cute kitty (or kitties). 🐈 // Continue Reading ›

"Il y a tout ce que vous voulez, Aux Champs-Élysées." Ahhhh oui, Paris! Nothing like it! This wonderful new music video is an animated celebration of Paris bringing to life the words of the classic song "Les Champs-Elysées." Originally written and performed by Joe Dassin (it debuted in 1969), this music video is a brand new creation for the original tune, posted officially on Dassin's YT channel. It premiered at the 2024 Annecy Film Festival in France earlier this month. The music video is delightfully illustrated & animated & directed by French artist Florent Grattery, whose distinct sketch style works perfectly for this. "Happiness should come from the heart." Dogwoof has revealed the first official trailer for a documentary film called Agent of Happiness, which originally premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. It also just played at the Sheffield DocFest 2024, and will open in UK cinemas this July. Though it still has no US date confirmed yet. "How can you measure happiness?" Time to meet Emilia Perez. Pathe has revealed the first official trailer for the acclaimed film Emilia Pérez, a musical about a Mexican cartel leader transitioning to a woman. This is the latest film by award-winning French filmmaker Jacques Audiard (of A Prophet, Rust & Bone, Dheepan, The Sisters Brothers), and it premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival last month where it won the Jury Prize & Best Actress prizes. The film is set mostly in Mexico, following the story of Rita and Manitas – and what happens after he switches to a she. Starring Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, Edgar Ramírez, Mark Ivanir. I'm a big fan of this one! Variations on a Theme Short Film
"How do we contain this?" What do you do when more & more clones don't stop replicating? Here's a clever sci-fi short film to enjoy that's now online to watch. It was filmed in Chicago and screened at various festivals in the last year, including at Overlook, Beyond Fest, Fantaspoa, Grimmfest, Seattle, Popcorn Frights, and plenty others. A couple has begun physically splitting into many different versions of themselves, and must investigate an uncomfortable mutation. "I'm getting really tired of breaking the news that we already exist to copies of ourselves." This stars Sophia Dunn-Walker as Sam and Peter Collins Campbell as Mark. New Trailer for Dark Comedy Film 'The Prank' Featuring Rita Moreno

The Prank Trailer
"I lit the fuse, and now we watch Wheeler burn..." Uh oh! This sounds dangerous. Signature Ent. in the UK has revealed an official trailer for an indie dark comedy called The Prank, the second feature film directed by Maureen Bharoocha. This originally premiered back in 2022 at the SXSW Film Festival that year, and it also showed at the 2023 Santa Barbara Film Festival, but has never been released in the US. A bit strange. Ben and his slacker friend Tanner decide to play a prank on their high school physics teacher Mrs. Wheeler. When she fails the entire class after someone cheats on a test, they teach the demanding instructor a lesson by falsely accusing her of murder on social media. Of course, it ends up spinning wildly out of control. What will happen next? The film stars EGOT winner Rita Moreno, with Connor Kalopsis, Ramona Young, Keith David, Kate Flannery, Meredith Salenger, Jonathan Kimmel, & Nathan Janak. This looks rather chaotic and crazy. Not sure it'll find the right balance between the dark setup and high school humor. // Continue Reading ›

It's Official - Coppola's 'Megalopolis' Opening in September in the US

Megalopolis
"Don't let the now... destroy the forever." It's official! It's coming to theaters soon! Lionsgate Studios has announced they will release Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis in the US this fall. The highly anticipated new film from the iconic filmmaker originally premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival (read our review) and it also just played at the Sydney Film Festival in Australia. It's now set to open in theaters starting on September 27th, 2024 - including on IMAX screens nationwide. Mark it down in your calendar now! Save the date! Get ready for a totally ridiculous, bonkers, mesmerizing experience unlike any other (here's a teaser trailer). The film received wildly mixed reviews out of Cannes, with some saying it's brilliant, others saying it's complete trash - though nearly everyone agrees that it's a a giant mess running on way too long. Nonetheless it's audacious, bold, and captivating at least. Lionsgate doesn't often release prestige cinema, but it's exciting to see them support a big, ambitious movie that does lean more towards the genre side. Only time will tell what audiences think of it! And only three months left to go until it will be playing in theaters. // Continue Reading ›

First Trailer for 'Living Large' - A Czech Stop-Motion Animation Film

Living Large Trailer
"I am hungry for life, and I say that's okay, so eat your fill today..." Barletta Productions has unveiled a promo trailer for an indie stop-motion animation film titled Living Large, a Czech production directed by Kristina Dufková. This just premiered at the 2024 Annecy Film Festival earlier this month, and it will next screen at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival in Czechia, kicking off at the end of June. 12-year-old Ben has just hit puberty and suddenly his weight's a problem – for him and for everyone else. The other kids bully him, his divorced parents don't know what to do. Even the school nurse is worried about him. So, despite his love of food and his emerging talent as a chef, Ben decides to take drastic action. He goes on a diet, attempting to win over the girl of his dreams. Will it work? The voices are in English though there's no voice cast available yet. The main kid Ben sounds a lot like Michael Cera. I've never seen an animated film like this tell the story of an overweight kid, which is why this one is special. It's definitely worth watching out for - the animation is distinct, and it's an endearing coming-of-age story. Catch it at other festivals this year before it's released. // Continue Reading ›

Susan Sarandon & Bette Midler in Comedy 'The Fabulous Four' Trailer

The Fabulous Four Trailer
"Is it just me or do we need some champagne?" 🍾 Bleecker Street has revealed the first official trailer for a comedy called The Fabulous Four, arriving in theaters soon at the end of July right in the middle of the summer movie season. This looks damn good! The trailer first debuted during the Tony Awards broadcast yesterday - a good fit because Bette Midler most recently won a Tony Award for her acclaimed role in Hello, Dolly a few years ago and also Sheryl Lee Ralph first rose to prominence for her Tony Award-nominated role as "Deena Jones" in the first Broadway production of Dreamgirls. In The Fabulous Four, two friends travel to Key West, Florida to be bridesmaids in a surprise wedding of their college girlfriend – rekindling their sisterhood amid drinks and romance. Bette Midler stars as Marilyn, the one getting married, with Megan Mullally, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Susan Sarandon as her friends. This all sounds kooky and quirky, and the footage is surprisingly even better than expected. Could end up being a sleeper hit next month! Dive in. // Continue Reading ›

An arrest is made quickly, clues push the policeman to dive deeper into the hidden behaviour of the locals. "What kind of darkness is truly at play here?" is the question that lingers on his mind. A mysterious, unique film-noir throwback with some intriguing meta scenes within it. "Equal parts atmospheric tour-de-force and beguiling puzzler, Only the River Flows is a masterfully styled ode to a bygone cinematic era and a sharp-edged portrait of provincial paranoia." Apple TV has unveiled the official trailer for a new sci-fi mystery series titled Sunny, ready for a streaming debut this summer in July on Apple TV+. Yet another clever sci-fi series from this streamer! Love it. "There's no manual for investigating your missing family. But there is Sunny." First Look Footage for 'Watchmen Chapter I & II' Animated Movies

Watchmen Chapter I & II
"There is good, and there is evil, and evil must be punished." So Rorschach says... Warner Bros has debuted a first look teaser for an upcoming animated adaptation of the celebrated Watchmen graphic novel. Back in 2009, Zack Snyder adapted the groundbreaking graphic novel into an epic 3 hour long movie (to mixed reviews). Which was extended into the "Ultimate Cut", including animated segments of "Tales of the Black Freighter" from the original book. There was also a Motion Comic version released in 2009. Later came the "Watchmen" series on HBO in 2019, a complete re-interpretation from Damon Lindelof (which was totally awesome, btw). Now, it appears that WB is adapting the entire book (written by Alan Moore, illustrated by Dave Gibbons) once again. It seems to be sticking with the same story, with some visuals reinvented, though most of it looks mostly familiar. There's only 30 seconds of footage here so far, and barely anything else is known about it yet. Created with CGI animation featuring some interesting 2D stylization on 3D characters. The two-part movie event is expected to debut on BR in August just after SDCC. Check out the tease below. // Continue Reading ›

It premiered at Sundance earlier this year and received near universal acclaim (it ended up on my Top 10 Best of the Fest list). It's dope! Set in west Belfast in 2019, it chronicles how fate brings the trio together and how they then go on to "change the sound of Irish music forever". Winner of the Next Audience Award at Sundance. First Look Teaser for Snyder's Animated 'Twilight of the Gods' Series

Twilight of the Gods Series Teaser
"The want war – I will give it to them." Netflix has revealed a very short teaser trailer first look at the new animated series called Twilight of the Gods, the next Zack Snyder creation for the streaming network. He has been developing this in tandem with the Rebel Moon movies, another animated offering much like with his previous Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole movie (2010). The series is inspired by Norse Mythology. The Twilight of the Gods refers events that led to the destruction of Midgard and Asgard, then the death of most of the Æsir and Vanir gods in an ultimate battle against evil, the forces of nature and the Giants. From Stone Quarry Animation working with Xilam Animation. The new series brings Snyder's "daring & spectacular vision" of ancient Norse mythology to life, and features the voices of Sylvia Hoeks, Stuart Martin, Pilou Asbaek, John Noble, Paterson Joseph, Rahul Kohli, Jamie Clayton, Peter Stormare, Kristopher Hivju, Jamie Chung, Lauren Cohan, and Corey Stoll. There's only a few bits of footage in here to start, but it does look like it will be pretty gnarly – extra bloody and violent! Bring it on. // Continue Reading ›

Tickets On Sale Promo Trailer for Kevin Costner's 'Horizon' Western

Warner Bros has debuted a 60-second promo trailer for Horizon: An American Saga from actor / filmmaker Kevin Costner announcing that tickets are now on sale for this release. The first movie in this two-part epic will open in theaters at the end of June this summer. Go see it on the big screen! The two-part western saga chronicles a multi-faceted, 15-year span of pre-and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. Dave Bautista & Chloe Coleman Go to Italy in 'My Spy The Eternal City'

My Spy The Eternal City Trailer
"I need my number one bull elephant heading this mission!" Prime Video has revealed the official trailer for an action comedy sequel titled My Spy The Eternal City (aka My Spy 2), which is skipping theaters and launching straight-to-streaming in July this summer. This is the eagerly awaited (really, by whom??) follow-up to 2020's action comedy My Spy, with the same director and cast returning for this next one set mostly in Italy. Back by popular demand, My Spy's amusing dynamic duo, veteran CIA operative JJ and his 14-year-old stepdaughter and protégé Sophie, reunite to save the world when a high school choir tour of Italy is interrupted by a nefarious nuclear plot targeting the Vatican. Dave Bautista & Chloe Coleman are back as JJ and Sophie, respectively. Returning stars Ken Jeong and Kristen Schaal are joined in this sequel by Anna Faris, Craig Robinson, and Flula Borg in this international action comedy from director Pete Segal (Get Smart, 50 First Dates). Must Watch Full Trailer for Moving Train Action Movie 'Kill' from India

Kill Action Movie Trailer
"We're greatly outnumbered here." Let's roll! Lionsgate has revealed the main official trailer for the badass action movie Kill, from filmmaker Nikhil Bhat. This intense film premiered last year at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival in the Midnight Madness section, and it also played at the Sitges Film Festival - where I caught up with it. It is action on the scale of The Raid, but set entirely on a moving train with fights happening right in the cramped passenger cars. When thugs board a train and start attacking passengers in a train heist, the train soon becomes a combat battleground as a pair of commandos face the entire army of invading bandits. Starring Lakshya, Tanya Maniktala and Raghav Juyal. You have never seen anything like this before!! I totally lost my shit watching this film last year, and my review is quoted in this trailer: "all aboard the next evolution of action cinema." Oh hell yes it is! I stand by that quote! I am very happy this is getting a proper theatrical release in the US soon! Go watch it in theaters - bring all your friends and have an amazing time. It's so brutal and crazy!
