A Final Trailer for 'A Complete Unknown' Starring Chalamet & Norton

A Complete Unknown Trailer
"If you could just get up there one more time, use that music in the right way..." Searchlight Pictures has revealed one final trailer for A Complete Unknown, the fantastic Bob Dylan flick arriving in theaters this holiday season. It'll be playing in cinemas nationwide starting December 25th, Christmas Day, this week. At the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, a young Bob Dylan shakes up his act on the folk music scene by going electric and siring rock as the voice of a generation - defining one of the most transformative moments in 20th century music. Timothée Chalamet stars as a young Bob Dylan in this film written and directed by James Mangold, coming off of the Indiana Jones movie. It also stars Edward Norton as Pete Seeger (one of the best supporting performances of the year), Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, Dan Fogler, Norbert Leo Butz, and Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie. I finally had a chance to see this and it's exceptional - earning a spot on my Top 10 list just before the end of the year. Now is your chance to catch it on the big screen and enjoy a blast to the past with Bobby. // Continue Reading ›

Trailer for 'Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever' Netflix Doc

Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever Trailer
"It's just these rich Silicon Valley-types chasing the fountain of youth..." Indeed. Netflix has revealed the trailer for a documentary film called Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever, focusing on the maniac who is trying to "live forever." Yet another doc about a hot topic from the news recently. How far would you go to live forever - or even just slow down the aging process? This new doc by filmmaker Chris Smith (also of Fyre, 100 Foot Wave, Sr., Bitconned, Wham!, Operation Varsity Blues, Jim & Andy) is told through intimate access to Bryan Johnson, a man who has dedicated his life to defy aging. Don't Die the doc examines the strange wellness practices one man is using to maintain youth & vitality, and the effect this journey has on himself & those around him. For the record I think this guy is totally nuts - he is just a performative narcissist who thinks he can crack the aging problem, rather than accepting the limits of life itself. This trailer makes it seem like it will glorify him, but I'm sure it'll also show those critical of him, too. // Continue Reading ›

Get ready for an epic showdown amongst God and Men! The epic first trailer for the Chinese action fantasy sequel Creation of the Gods II: Demonic Confrontation has debuted online. Here's the brief intro: Taishi Wen Zhong led the army of Shang Dynasty including Deng Chanyu and four generals of the Mo Family to Xiqi. Trailer for Doc Film 'Half-Life of Memory' About the Rocky Flats Plant

Half-Life of Memory Trailer
"That place should never, ever be inhabited by human beings." Freestyle Digital Media debuted the official trailer for a documentary titled Half-Life of Memory: America's Forgotten Atomic Bomb Factory. As much as it may seem like some conspiracy theory doc, it's anything but – it's the true story of an atomic bomb facility. The film tells the story of how the U.S. secretly manufactured thousands of atomic weapons in the suburbs of Denver, leaving behind a toxic legacy that will persist for many generations. Colorado's Rocky Flats plant produced a staggering 70K atomic bombs, each serving as a "trigger" for thermonuclear warheads. Concealed by U.S. government secrecy, the plant's fires, leaks, & illicit dumping of nuclear waste contaminated the Denver area with long-lived radioactive toxins. A major and highly visible plutonium fire sparked a decade of mass protests, culminating in an unprecedented FBI raid that ultimately shuttered the plant. Today, the radioactive legacy of Rocky Flats continues to threaten public health, yet surprisingly few people are aware the plant ever existed. Me either! As someone who grew up in Colorado, I'm fascinated by this harrowing true story (the plant was shut down for good in 1992). Scary they got away with it for so long. // Continue Reading ›

Now set for release in February 2025 in limited theaters if anyone's intrigued. This very grainy, old school, lo-fi thriller follows a young mother who, due to a unique condition that progressively affects her perception of time, is trying to save money for her daughter’s future before it's too late. Ariella Mastroianni stars as Frankie, a young mother with dyschronometria, who struggles to perceive time but is also a keen observer. She uses cassette tapes for guidance on a daily basis. She takes a risky job from a mysterious woman with a dark past, which leads her to become entangled in a tense web of revenge, deceit, and murder... The film stars Mastroianni with Marcia Debonis, Renee Gagner, Jack Alberts, and Tommy Kang. I watched this one in Cannes and did not care for it at all. Spit Movie Trailer
"I'm gonna get outta here, and when I do I'm gonna look after ya..." Transmission Films has revealed the main official trailer for the film Spit – yes that's the actual title for it. David Wenham stars as infamous criminal John Francis "Spit" Spitieri in Jonathan Teplitzky's film Spit - debuting in Australia next March. In the sequel to the award-winning crime comedy, Gettin' Square, ex-junkie John Spitieri returns to Australia, only to find himself locked up in an Immigration Detention Centre with a massive target on his back, as old enemies come looking for him, determined to settle old scores. Official US Trailer for 'Eat the Night' Crime Thriller + MMORPG Story

Eat the Night Trailer
"Why are you doing that? Inevitably, it will backfire. Altered Innocence has revealed an official trailer for Eat the Night, a French crime thriller from the filmmaking duo Caroline Poggi & Jonathan Vinel. This one first premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year in the Directors' Fortnight section, and it played at the London Film Fest. The newest vision from Caroline Poggi & Jonathan Vinel (known for Jessica Forever) is a bittersweet apocalyptic love story with a modern MMORPG twist. Young drug dealer Pablo and his sister Appoline bond over an online role playing game called Darknoon (which looks quite similar to World of Warcraft but isn't the same). Suddenly Pablo falls for the mysterious Night, neglecting his sister and the game. While Appoline finishes the game, Pablo and Night become embroiled in a dangerous gang conflict, upending their reality. Starring Théo Cholbi & Lila Gueneau as Pablo & Apolline, with Erwan Kepoa Falé as Night, Mathieu Perotto, Eddy Suiveng, and Kevin Bago. Indie Horror Film 'When It Rains in L.A.' Trailer Starring Monroe Cline

When It Rains in LA Trailer
"There is saying: 'when it rains in LA, disaster follows...'" Gravitas Ventures has unveiled an official trailer for an indie horror film titled When It Rains in L.A., from filmmaker David M. Parks. Not to be confused with any other film that is about the rare time when it rains in Los Angeles. The horror film follows the story of an Eastern European girl who escapes the horror of losing her sugar daddy boyfriend in her own country. She travels to Los Angeles for a vacation with friends, where she faces the reckoning of the trauma she left behind... and the rain she unearthed coming there. This sounds like a drama about trauma but it's actually a slasher horror film about a masked murderer coming after her. Huh? Why? Is he seeking vengeance because she escaped from this sugar daddy? This is all so weird. When It Rains in LA stars Monroe Cline, Leslie Stratton, Mike Ferguson, Eric Roberts, Felix Merback, Natasha Stricklin, and LeeAnne Bauer. The funniest part about this is how fake the rain looks and yet it's needed for so many scenes in the film. Ha. // Continue Reading ›

"Coming to you, or you coming to us?" The huge ensemble cast features: D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Evan Holtzman, Henrique Zaga, Michael Gandolfini, with Joesph Quinn and Charles Melton. Another Action-Packed 'Captain America: Brave New World' Promo

Captain America: Brave New World Special Look
"What if it's a trap?" Indeed what if it is? Marvel has revealed another new 60-second promo trailer for the MCU sequel Captain America: Brave New World - hitting theaters February 14th, 2025 in exactly two months. Almost time! From director Julius Onah comes the next Captain America evolution – Anthony Mackie stars as Sam Wilson, who has taken over as the new Cap from Steve Rogers after he retired at the end of the Avengers movies. Brave New World picks up with Harrison Ford as the US president, with the power dynamics in the world changing (a meta reference for sure). After an attack, Cap is asked to join the military - but he ends up in the middle of another international incident. The conspiracy noir side of this is the best part – but they're downplaying it now. The impressive cast includes Giancarlo Esposito, Danny Ramirez as a young Falcon, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, Xosha Roquemore; plus an appearance by a Red Hulk, played by Harrison Ford. This looks like it might be entertaining, but it also seems like yet another generic Marvel movie and that's not so exciting anymore. // Continue Reading ›

First Trailer for 'Into the Deep' Shark Movie Featuring Richard Dreyfuss

Into the Deep Shark Movie Trailer
"The ocean is a dangerous wonder. That kingdom is your kingdom, too." Signature Ent has revealed an official trailer for Into the Deep, yet another new shark movie to dive in with. This one is from filmmaker Christian Sesma, best known for a lot of junk B-movie action thrillers. Scott Eastwood & Willa Fitzgerald in 'Alarum' Spy Action Thriller Trailer

Alarum Trailer
"How do you know she's not playing you?" Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for an action thriller called Alarum, made by director Michael Polish. It's being dumped in January on VOD and in theaters - which means this is one to avoid. After the CIA discovers the whereabouts of two rogue spies, who have not only gone off-grid but have become husband and wife, all hell is unleashed on their winter honeymoon cabin resort in the woods by a consortium of international spy organizations who are after a "flight pill", aka a hard drive, and all of whom suspect the two may have joined a network of rogue spies known as the Alarum. The action thriller features Scott Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone, Willa Fitzgerald, Mike Colter, Isis Valverde, & Joel Cohen. What even is this? So many of these dime-a-dozen junk action films nowadays, I still wonder who even watches them. Nothing about this looks interesting or unique at all. Next film, please. // Continue Reading ›

Wedding Comedy 'You're Cordially Invited' Trailer with Will & Reese

You're Cordially Invited Trailer
"We're gonna go chaos-monkey on his ass!" Well that seems scary. Prime Video has unveiled the full official trailer for a movie titled You're Cordially Invited, a raucous new wedding comedy created & directed by filmmaker Nick Stoller (of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, The Five-Year Engagement, Neighbors 1 & 2, Bros). You're Cordially Invited follows a woman who is planning her sister's wedding and the father of another bride-to-be. They discover that they are double-booked for their destination wedding, so both parties decide to share the venue, but chaos and disaster await. "Save the date." This is still opening streaming on Prime Video at the en d January 2025 which is honestly not exactly a good sign. Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon star as the double-booked hosts, with Geraldine Viswanathan, Meredith Hagner, Wesley Mann, Jimmy Tatro, Celia Weston, Leanne Morgan, Rory Scovel, and Keyla Monterroso Mejia. The first teaser was much better, this trailer rehashes that joke with the alligator and some other more unfunny moments. Not sure this film will be worth the wait after all. But you never know... // Continue Reading ›

Final Trailer for Korean Freedom Fighters Film 'Harbin' Opening Soon

Harbin Trailer
"I must kill that old wolf." Well Go USA has revealed an official US trailer for a Korean historical thriller called Harbin, the latest from director Woo Min-ho. This premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival a few months ago, giving it a chance to shine at a film festival before its debut in theaters in the US & also in Korea this winter. In 1909, several years after Korea is forced into becoming a Japanese colony, freedom fighters plot the daring assassination of Japan’s prime minister during their quest for independence. The film tells the true story of the 1909 assassination of Itō Hirobumi - who was the Prime Minister of Japan and former Resident General of Korea. It's the story of a group of passionate Korean freedom fighters who organized and planned the assassination in opposition to the Japanese rule of Korea. The film stars Hyun Bin, Park Jeong-min, Jo Woo-jin, Jeon Yeo-been, Park Hoon, Yoo Jae-myung, and Lee Dong-wook. This looks gripping & empowering, with good reviews from TIFF to back it up. Adorable Trailer for 'Every Little Thing' - Hummingbird Rescue Doc

Every Little Thing Doc Trailer
"A shimmering film about love and resilience." Yes! Kino Lorber has finally unveiled an official trailer for a wonderful little film called Every Little Thing, which first premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. I watched this at the world premiere and have never forgotten it - always on my mind. Now it's ready to open a year later after its debut! It's the story of a humble woman who takes care of and nurses hummingbirds back to health and re-releases them. Author and wildlife rehabber Terry Masear has an ambitious goal: to save every injured hummingbird in Los Angeles. But the path to survival is fraught with danger. This heart-expanding Sundance doc hit introduces audiences to Terry's diminutive patients through breathtaking slow-motion photography and emotional storytelling. I love this film! If you live anywhere where hummingbirds fly, you've probably heard or seen one fly into a window or glass door. What do you do next? She teaches us how to save them. It's such a wholesome, uplifting little film... I wrote in my glowing review: "Take a moment to appreciate & heal with this lovely doc film whenever you have a chance." Enjoy. // Continue Reading ›

With the year winding down, it's time to look back and highlight some favorites from the world of movies. The past few years I've been putting together these collections of my favorite poster designs, highlighting the work (from real humans not AI!) that I think deserves extra attention because it is bold & eye-catching. Below is my personal selection of 10 Favorite Movie Posters from 2024. These aren't necessarily the "best" rather they're my own favorites that stuck with me. The only qualification is that they must be official posters released by the distributor, not fan art or other posters created unofficially. This year I was drawn to really light, colorful, vivid designs that also follow the golden rules of graphic design. I like colors! Always gets me. Turn up that saturation, make it brighter. Official Trailer for 'Los Frikis' Film - Coming-of-Age Set in 1990s Cuba

Los Frikis Trailer
"You can't expect to hold onto anything, Gustavo." The official trailer is available for a new film titled Los Frikis, a coming-of-age film from 1990s Cuba based on a true story. This indie drama is the latest creation from the two filmmakers behind the indie hit The Peanut Butter Falcon from a few years ago. And it's also produced by Academy Award winning producers Phil Lord & Christopher Miller. Inspired by a real story, Los Frikis is a coming-of-age story set in early 90s Cuba where a group of punk rockers in search of freedom deliberately inject HIV in order to live at a government-run treatment home so they can create their own utopia - since they can't otherwise. There, in a world meant for isolation, they carve out their own anarchic utopia—an oasis of rock 'n' roll 🤘, joy, and independence. Wow what a crazy story! Starring Adrià Arjona from Hit Man, Héctor Medina, Jorge Perugorría, Luis Alberto García, and introducing Eros de la Puente as Gustavo. Damn this looks really good! A very potent story about the dangers of chasing freedom. // Continue Reading ›

Looking much better now! It's not new a series, it's a one-time movie "event" - connected to the recent "Star Trek: Discovery" series. Intended to be the first real TV movie in the ST franchise and part of producer Alex Kurtzman's expanded Star Trek Universe. Section 31 (first teaser here) stars Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, who becomes an agent for a secret black ops division of Starfleet called Section 31. Tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, she also must face the sins of her past. It also stars Omari Hardwick as Alok, Kacey Rohl from Starfleet, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez, and James Hiroyuki Liao. Not your usual Star Trek storyline, refreshing to see them shaking things up. Actually digging all of this footage! Some cool fights and a darker vibe this time around. Badass Preview for 'Ballerina' Action Spin-Off Starring Ana de Armas

Ballerina Trailer
"You have no idea what you just walked into..." Lionsgate has launched a new promo trailer for the action spin-off titled Ballerina, the next John Wick movie that's not actually a John Wick movie. This new promo comes direct from CCXP in São Paulo - featuring behind-the-scenes footage in addition to some awesome movie footage. Ana de Armas stars as Eve, an assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma getting revenge hunting the murderers of her family. The same character was previously portrayed by Unity Phelan in 2019's John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and this takes place before Chapter 4. The superb supporting cast includes Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, Keanu Reeves, Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Norman Reedus. With an appearance by Lance Reddick shot before he passed away. This is much better than the first trailer a few months ago, presenting a better look at what hopefully going to be a properly a kick ass action movie. Ready to debut steaming streaming later this month - available on Prime Video worldwide. Must See Trailer for Sci-Fi Thriller 'The Gorge' from Scott Derrickson

The Gorge Teaser Trailer
"Contact with the other side is strictly forbidden." Apple + Skydance have revealed the official trailer for an intriguing new sci-fi action thriller called The Gorge, a new film directed by Scott Derrickson (of Sinister, Doctor Strange, The Black Phone 1 + 2). This is ready to drop on Apple TV+ beginning in February, just in time for Valentine's Day, early next year - unfortunately it's only getting a streaming debut and no theatrical release (as far as we know). Two highly-trained sniper operatives (Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy) are appointed to posts within guard towers on opposite sides of a vast and highly classified gorge, protecting the world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within. They bond from a distance while trying to stay vigilant in defending against an unseen enemy. Despite the corrupt and lethal world they operate in – they still find a soulmate in each other. Ah so that's why it's a Valentine's Day release. It co-stars Anya Taylor-Joy & Miles Teller, as well as William Houston, Samantha Coughlan, Alessandro Garcia, Greta Hansen, and featuring Sigourney Weaver. This looks like a George Miller movie - much bigger in scope & scale than expected, a love story intertwined with a story about defending us from the gates to Hell. Wow. // Continue Reading ›

Watch: Dick Van Dyke in Spike Jonze's New 'All My Love' Music Video

All My Love Music Video
"I'm one of those lucky people who got to do for a living what I would've done anyway!" This is wonderful! Coldplay has released a brand new music video for the single "All My Love" off their brand new album called "Moon Music". But it's nothing like any usual music video. Coldplay's Chris Martin hangs out with the legendary Dick Van Dyke, who is turning 99 years old (!!) and plays on his piano while Dick dances around his home. All of it is filmed & edited into a lovely tribute to the iconic performer / comedian / actor Dick Van Dyke, cut with footage & photographs from his illustrious career in show business. It's co-directed by the filmmakers Spike Jonze & Mary Wigmore, which actually makes it the first real Spike Jonze-directed project we've seen in a while. And it's just so delightful. Shot in location at his home in Malibu, it's a lovely, heartfelt look at his life as he reflects on his age. "I'm acutely aware that I could go any day now... but I don't know why it doesn't concern me. I'm not afraid of it. I have the feeling that I'm gonna be alright." Dance on. // Continue Reading ›

John Waters Reveals His Top 10 Films of 2024 - Guadagnino & Glass

John Waters 2024 Top 10
"It's the ones you love the most who always disappoint you in the end." (A quote from Love Lies Bleeding.) It's always so much fun to find out what John Waters' favorite films are every year! (And then argue about them!) One of the most exciting "best of the year" lists that kicks off this time of the year is from filmmaker John Waters - his Top 10 favorite films in a list that is unlike any other. For 2024, Waters has chosen a less quirky, more sexy selection of mostly LGBTQ films as his best of the year. His previous Top 10 list from 2023 included Beau is Afraid and Master Gardener and Fallen Leaves. One of his most controversial picks for 2024 - he loved Joker 2 (aka Joker: Folie à Deux) and is big on defending it. 🤦‍♂️ "Stupid critics. Gaga so good." His numero uno opened much earlier in 2024 - the dark & wild Love Lies Bleeding starring Kristen Stewart and Katy O'Brian, released by A24. After years of publishing this list with the magazine ArtForum, Waters has switched it up and sent it to Vulture instead. Peruse all of his Top 10 favorites from 2024 below. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for 'On Call' Series - About Long Beach Police Officers

On Call Series Trailer
"Every move we make is under the microscope. We are kicking the hornet's nest." Prime Video has revealed an official trailer for a new cop series titled On Call, set for a streaming debut in January 2025. Somehow, someone thought we needed more shows about cops? The series follows a pair of police officers on patrol as they respond to a new radio call, arriving on the scene to resolve incidents. The series is set in the sunny surf town of Long Beach, California. Starring Troian Bellisario as a veteran officer, Brandon Larracuente as an ambitious rookie officer, Lori Loughlin, Rich Ting, with Eriq La Salle (who also directed four of the episodes as well). "Shot with a mixture of hand-held cameras, bodycam and dash-cam footage to create a cinema verité effect, the innovative series explores the morality of protecting and serving a community." Yeah this is obviously some copaganda. Unlike the Netflix series Public Disorder that takes a critical look at police problems, this seems to be all about making them look like heroes working in these tough situations. // Continue Reading ›

'Live On Air' Featurette for 1972 Munich Olympics 'September 5' Film

September 5 Featurette
"That's a TV! Are they seeing what we're seeing?" Paramount has revealed a new making of featurette video for the film September 5, one of the major Oscar contenders in play this awards season. The official trailer dropped a few months ago, and the film premiered at both the 2024 Venice & Telluride Film Fests earlier in the fall. During the 1972 Munich Olympics (on September 5th, 1972), an American sports broadcasting crew finds itself thrust into covering the hostage crisis involving Israeli athletes. The film focuses on the crew of the ABC Sports TV station that was located right inside the Olympic village, covering all the sports events live for the first time ever in TV history. The superb ensemble cast in the film includes Peter Sarsgaard, John Magaro, Ben Chaplin, Leonie Benesch, Zinedine Soualem, Marcus Rutherford, Georgina Rich, Corey Johnson, Daniel Adeosun, Benjamin Walker, Ferdinand Dörfler. This featurette is more of a more detailed intro to the film and the story it's telling, setting it up better than the trailer did. It's a fascinating story of this TV crew at this moment having to decide then & there how to proceed. Great film. // Continue Reading ›

First Look at 'Public Disorder' Series About a Riot Police Team in Rome

Public Disorder Trailer
"This is Rome. And Rome doesn't retreat." Netflix has launched a first look teaser for an upcoming Italian series called Public Disorder, which is set to debut streaming in January 2025. Not too long of a wait for this one. Sadly they tamed down the title - the official Italian name is A.C.A.B. La serie, or simply just the ACAB series. Public Disorder is an upcoming Netflix streaming series about a riot police team in Rome, whose personal and professional lives slowly fall apart because of the hatred burning inside each of them. Among rising tensions, the team members are called to take sides & forced to question the deeper meaning of their work and their own membership of the Department. Definitely sounds like a proper ACAB series that will make cops look in the mirror and understand their own anger and hate. Starring Julia Messina, Francesco Buttironi, Aiman Machhour, Marco Giallini, Valentina Bellè, Pierluigi Gigante, and Adriano Giannini. There's barely 30 seconds of footage in here but so far it's looking pretty damn good. It reminds me of France's Athena at first glance. But hopefully this is more about how rotten so many cops are. // Continue Reading ›

'Julia's Stepping Stones' Doc Teaser About the Filmmaker Julia Reichert

Julia's Stepping Stones Teaser Trailer
"We believed that the only way to achieve equality was to actually live it." Netflix has revealed the official trailer for a biopic documentary film called Julia's Stepping Stones, which will out to watch in December streaming on Netflix worldwide. It's credited as directed by both Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar, who last made the outstanding doc American Factory together. Julia Reichert, who passed away after a long battle with cancer in 2022, recounts the path that she took to becoming an acclaimed filmmaker: her upbringing & education, and her interest in working people and the women's movement. Freaky First Trailer for 'The Rule of Jenny Pen' with Lithgow & Rush

The Rule of Jenny Pen Trailer
"He's the menace! He's been at me since the jump." Rialto Distribution in New Zealand is the first to reveal the official trailer for The Rule of Jenny Pen, a horror thriller from the Kiwi filmmaker James Ashcroft. This is his second feature after making Coming Home in the Dark and it's already getting rave reviews. The Rule of Jenny Pen premiered at both Fantastic Fest and at the Sitges Film Festival (where I caught it) earlier this fall. Confined to a secluded rest home and trapped within his stroke-ridden body, a former Judge must stop an elderly psychopath who employs a child's puppet to abuse and terrorize the home's residents with deadly consequences. The indie horror film stars John Lithgow, Geoffrey Rush, and George Henare. Yes this is about an old timer who torments others with a plastic doll he puts on his hand, and it's creepy as hell! One of the most unsettling horror stories I've seen this year - I wrote in my review that "a new horror icon is born." You'd think this would be impossible to pull off, but the performances make it properly scary. // Continue Reading ›
