Eerie Teaser Trailer for 'I See the Demon' Indie Sci-Fi Horror Thriller
"We don't know what we're going to wake up to, like, what the world is going to be like..." An early teaser trailer has debuted for an indie horror film titled I See the Demon, from filmmaker Jacob Lees Johnson. This is premiering at the 2025 Cinequest Film Festival in March if anyone wants to catch it - grab tickets. It's described as a "mublegore sci-fi thriller" - I dig that the title seems like misdirection. There is a strange comet up in the sky? And other weird things going on? Is it a demon or aliens or something else entirely? At her surprise birthday party, an emotionally vulnerable woman experiences unexplainable phenomena that threaten to turn the best night of her life into a never-ending nightmare. Lucy sees a strange object in the sky, but everyone keeps telling her everything is fine. This stars Alexis Zollicoffer, Jon Heder, Mallory Everton, Noah Kershisnik, Archelaus Crisanto, Dave Martinez, Mac Steele Foster, and Oran Stainbrook. It reminds me of the opening party in Cloverfield, but turns into something else trippy & crazy in the second half of this teaser. Wild. Gotta check this out at some point, looks like a potential hidden gem. // Continue Reading ›

Japanese Doc 'AUM: The Cult at the End of the World' Official Trailer
"Our son was rapidly sucked into it." Greenwich Ent. has revealed an official trailer for AUM: The Cult at the End of the World, a documentary film about the dangerous, psychotic doomsday day cult in Japan known as Aum Shinrikyo. This first premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival a few years ago, and is finally getting released in the US this spring. The shocking story of Aum Shinrikyo (today known as Aleph), the doomsday cult that unleashed a deadly nerve gas in Tokyo’s subway system in March of 1995. Founded by disillusioned yoga teacher Shoko Asahara, Aum transformed into a terrorist organization while Japan’s police and media turned a blind eye. Featuring rare archival footage and an interview with one of Asahara’s former high-ranking disciples. This film is an exploration of Aum Shinrikyo, and its leader Shoko Asahara, who were responsible for attack, involves the participation of those who lived through the horror in the 90s as it unfolded. I'm glad I watched this at Sundance a few years ago, it's fascinating and seriously disquieting understanding how they got away with all of this. Another film showing how evil "religious" cults always are. // Continue Reading ›

"You will never lose me. Not as long as you stay who you are." The Academy has revealed their 2025 Best Picture Nominee video just before the Oscar ceremony this weekend. This fantastic 2-min montage brings together all 10 of the nominees – from Anora to Wicked to The Brutalist to Conclave to The Substance – to reminds us why we love movies so much. And also to highlight each of the nominees and what makes them so powerful & unforgettable. The Academy has been putting out these final montages for the past few years: here's for 2023 and also for 2024 last year. This Oscars video was edited by a friend of the site, best known as "Sleepy Skunk", who has been creating movie trailer mashups and retrospectives for years (view them all there). The ending with the Wicked scene makes sense, because most people will recognize this film, but I'm still just happy to see Nickel Boys, The Brutalist, and Anora nominated for Best Picture anyway. Enjoy. // Continue Reading ›

Everyone Agrees - This First Look at DWA's 'Shrek 5' Sequel is Terrible
"Who's making this stuff?" Good question - because wow this looks awful. DreamWorks Animation debuted a tiny 20 second teaser announcing Shrek 5, a new sequel in the Shrek franchise. This will be released a full 16 years after Shrek Forever After, the fourth movie that opened back in 2010. There hasn't been any other continuation since, unless you count the recent Puss in Boots movies or Shrek on Ice (for real) or whatever random brand concepts they've cooked up. Shrek 5 is the fifth movie in this popular animation series, which began in 2001. The original voice cast returns - Cameron Diaz as Fiona, Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey. With the addition of Zendaya voicing Felicia, Shrek & Fiona's not-so-young-anymore daughter. It's set for release on Christmas Day in December 2026 more than a year from now, after being pushed back from its original July 2026 date. This teaser footage shows that they've apparently redesigned the characters - and they look so bad. Everyone has been commenting on this footage all day, and everyone agrees - this looks terrible. They should've just left Shrek in the past, no need to bring him back again. Ugh. // Continue Reading ›

This premiered at a few film festivals last year, including at the 2024 Trieste Science+Fiction Festival. David Arquette in NYPD Thriller 'Mob Cops' Trailer Another Crime Film
"Where is the money coming from, Leo?!" Lionsgate has debuted an official trailer for another boring crime thriller called Mob Cops, arriving on VOD starting in April this spring. These kind of generic "bad guys are kinda cool" movies really are a dime a dozen nowadays in the streaming / VOD era. From director Danny A. Abeckaser, Mob Cops is based on true events in mobster crime lore: When the two dirtiest cops in NYPD history pop up on a veteran detective's radar, he goes on a hunt to discover the truth and bring all them to justice. Holocaust Prisoners Escape Thriller 'The World Will Tremble' Trailer

Vertical has unveiled an official trailer for a film titled The World Will Tremble, yet another Holocaust thriller about an "untold true story" from World War II. This recently premiered at the 2025 Miami Jewish Film Festival, and it will be ready to watch in March on VOD. The incredible story of how a group of prisoners attempt a seemingly impossible escape from the first Nazi death camp in order to tell people about what was happening. It's about Solomon Weiner (played by Oliver Jackson-Cohen) & Michael Podchlebnik (played by Jeremy Neumark Jones) who attempt a seemingly impossible escape from the first Nazi death camp to give the first eyewitness account of the Holocaust. They were imprisoned at Chełmno (Google Maps), the first of six extermination camps established by the Nazis, located in Poland about 300 miles from Majdanek, the camp seen in Jesse Eisenberg's A Real Pain. It also features Charlie MacGechan, Michael Epp, David Kross, Michael Fox, and Anton Lesser. Is that a reference to The Great Escape with the motorcycle scene? Netflix is launching their new sports comedy series this week titled Running Point, available for streaming starting on the 27th (here's the main trailer). This series is produced and developed by Mindy Kaling for WB Television. "The balls are in her court now. She aims to prove she was the right choice despite skepticism and infighting and all the shenanigans that come with professional sports. The 10-episode series also features Brenda Song as Ali Lee, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Jay Ellis, Max Greenfield, Justin Theroux, and many others. This looks like an entertaining, all-out sports comedy series - perhaps something to rival HBO's Lakers series Winning Time. Epic Second Trailer for 'House of David' Series About David vs. Goliath
"David - you have the heart of a lion. What do lions do? They roar!" So let David roar! Prime Video has debuted a second official trailer for the series House of David, based on the biblical story that many are familiar with already. This epic series streaming later this week brings the iconic David vs. Goliath story (from the Book of Samuel) to the screen. The term David and Goliath is most often used as a reference for a single person taking on a corporation or government, but this is telling the original story from history about a real battle. The once-mighty King Saul falls victim to his own pride, as an outcast shepherd boy, David is anointed as the second king. This depicts Goliath as an actual giant. Newcomer Michael Iskander, who they cast after months of searching (also seen in Kimberly Akimbo on Broadway), stars as David; along with Ali Suliman as King Saul, Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam, Stephen Lang as Samuel, Indy Lewis as Mychal, and Martyn Ford as Goliath. Can one stone change the course of history? I guess it can. Even as a religious series, this looks properly entertaining. Also seems like it's borrowing from Count of Monte Cristo. // Continue Reading ›

Berlinale 2025: Dag Johan Haugerud's Golden Bear Winner 'Dreams'

After another long winter film festival at the end of February, the 2025 Berlin Film Festival announced the award winners - giving the Golden Bear top prize to Norwegian filmmaker Dag Johan Haugerud and his film known as Dreams (in English). This warm and fuzzy Norwegian film is deserving of the top prize at this year's festival, finally a winner that seems to be less of a political pick and more about wonderful filmmaking getting reconigition. I'm glad I had a chance to catch up with Dreams at the end of Berlinale, right before it would go on to win, as it is a seriously wholesome and uplifting cinematic experience. Everyone feels better after watching it. And I'm glad I could catch this one on the big screen and take it in, be wrapped up in it, feel the warmth it exudes like the warmth of the light from the projector. Official Trailer for 4K Restoration of Charles Burnett's 'Killer of Sheep'
"Independent to the bone..." Kino Lorber has revealed a new trailer for the 4K restoration of the American indie cinema classic Killer of Sheep, made by filmmaker Charles Burnett as his feature debut in 1978. Filmed in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles during the 70s, Burnett wrote, directed, produced, shot, and edited Killer of Sheep as his UCLA thesis film. Since then, the film went on to receive the Critics’ Award at the Berlin Film Festival in 1981, the U.S. Library of Congress selected the film as one of the first fifty films on the National Film Registry in 1990, and the National Society of Film Critics selected it as one of the "100 Essential Films" of all time in 2002. It's only now getting a proper release. The film depicts the culture of urban African-Americans in Los Angeles' Watts district in a style often likened to Italian neorealism, with a series of vignettes. This brand new 4K restoration of Killer of Sheep restores the original soundtrack in its entirety, including the original closing song, Dinah Washington's performance of "Unforgettable." Starring Henry G. Sanders, Kaycee Moore, Charles Bracy, and Angela Burnett. The film was re-released in 2007 after an initial restoration and licensing of the music rights, but now it's getting a proper restoration run this year for its 48th anniversary. 2025 Indie Spirit Awards: Sean Baker's 'Anora' Lands Top 3 Awards
The Independent Spirit Awards are an annual award given in the name of independent film, featuring all of the indie films which deserve honor and recognition - celebrating their 40th year. The 2025 winners of the Spirit Awards were announced Saturday evening, in their usual spot in Santa Monica near the beach - one week before the Oscars. The big winner this year is the already celebrated Anora, taking Best Film & Best Director & Best Lead Performance. Sean Baker also recently won the DGA Award for Best Director as well. The other nominations from 2024 included many outstanding indie films many cinephiles have been raving about for years, deserving of some extra time in the spotlight - including Nickel Boys, Sing Sing, I Saw the TV Glow, Cuckoo, Thelma, The Brutalist, Ghostlight, and Didi (which also won a few awards). Official US Trailer + Poster for Sly Thriller 'Misericordia' from France
"Surprisingly hilarious yet unsurprisingly horny." Janus Films has revealed an official US trailer and a new poster for the acclaimed French indie film titled Misericordia, which first premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival last year. This thriller from French director Alain Guiraudie (also of Strange by the Lake) also played at the Telluride, Toronto, New York, London, and Busan Film Festivals last year. In the film, Jérémie returns to his hometown for an old baker friend's funeral, staying even longer after. In this village where so much goes unsaid, he must contend with rumours and suspicion, until he commits an irreparable act and finds himself at the center of a police investigation. Starring Félix Kysyl as Jérémie, with Catherine Frot, Jacques Develay, Jean-Baptiste Durand, and David Ayala. In Alain Guiraudie's quietly carnal world, violence & eroticism explode with little anticipation, and criminal behavior seems like a natural extension of physical desire. They add: "the French director is at the top of his game in Misericordia, again upending all genre expectations." The film has earned rave reviews from many critics during its festival run, with many quotes seen in this trailer including calling it a "sickly funny thriller." Berlinale 2025: 'If You Are Afraid You Put Your Heart into Your Mouth & Smile'
Sometimes we just need to take a deep breath and yell. Blow off some steam, let that anger out into the air, rather than hold it in forever. One of the better indie gems hidden in the mostly lackluster 2025 Berlin Film Festival selection is this Austrian film that's the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Marie Luise Lehner. The clever full title of the film in German is Wenn du Angst hast nimmst du dein Herz in den Mund und lächelst, which translates to If You Are Afraid You Put Your Heart into Your Mouth and Smile in English. This title comes from something that the film's mother says to her daughter in the second half, talking about how you have to overcome your fears and go out into the world and live no matter what. It's inspiring moment, and a deeply felt one, too. This film really is something special. A stunning example of small-scale filmmaking that is meaningful and impactful. It will warm your heart and remind you it ain't easy living these days, but it is always worth it to keep on moving every single day no matter what happens. // Continue Reading ›

Mysterious Teaser for 'Mother's Baby' Thriller with Marie Leuenberger
"Georg, something's not right here." The Match Factory has revealed a teaser trailer for a mystery thriller film titled Mother's Baby, made by Austrian filmmaker Johanna Moder. This just premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival a few days ago, and will likely play at more film festivals this the year before hitting theaters. An unsettling film about a new mother. Julia, a successful conductor, and her partner Georg would like to have a child when Dr. Vilfort offers them hope. Julia becomes pregnant at the doctor's private clinic in Vienna. The birth does not go well and the baby is immediately taken away, leaving Julia and Georg in the dark about what has happened. When finally reunited with the child a day later, Julia feels strangely distant. She begins to doubt whether it is really her child... The especially talented Swiss-German actress Marie Leuenberger (from The Divine Order) stars as Julia, with Hans Löw as her husband, Claes Bang as her creepy doctor, and Julia Franz Richter as a creepy midwife. Berlinale 2025: Jan-Ole Gerster's 'Islands' Film Set on Fuerteventura
Time to take another trip out to an island to escape from the world as we know it. One of my favorite films of the 2025 Berlin Film Festival is this fantastic indie creation called Islands, the latest feature film made by German filmmaker Jan-Ole Gerster. I'm already a big fan of Gerster - his first two feature films A Coffee in Berlin (aka Oh Boy - from 2012) and Lara (from 2019) are two of my favorites as well (and I recommend catching up with both since most people haven't seen them). He's a remarkably talented, crafty filmmaker who comes around every few years with an absolute banger new film that somehow remains under the radar despite getting rave reviews. I hope this one finds a much larger audience outside of Germany, and I expect it will. Islands is his first film entirely in English, set on the popular tourist island of Fuerteventura in the Grand Canary Islands archipelago. I loved it. This is one of 2025 cinema's gems - I will be talking about this film all year long and I'm ready to rewatch it already. I also really need the score to listen to while working. // Continue Reading ›

'Alexander & Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip' Trailer
"We lost our grandma! Who loses their grandma?!" Disney+ has revealed the official trailer for a comedy movie called Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip, a sort of spin-off / remake movie inspired by the original Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day movie. The iconic book that this is based on (written by Judith Viorst) was also turned into a cheesy Disney movie in 2014 that got pretty bad / mixed reviews. This next one follows a Mexican American family who have recently lost their connection to each other and their roots, as they embark on an epic road trip that immediately goes hilariously wrong. The new comedy, which stars Eva Longoria, Jesse Garcia, Paulina Chávez, Rose Portillo, Cristo Fernández, Harvey Guillén, Mabel Cadena, Michelle Buteau, and introducing Thom Nemer, with Cheech Marin (hell yes), is directed by Marvin Lemus and written by Matt Lopez. D+ is releasing it streaming in March, skipping theaters entirely for home. This looks like it wants to be another National Lampoon's Vacation but is still nowhere near as funny as that comedy classic. // Continue Reading ›

Andre Holland & Gemma Chan in Peculiar 'The Actor' Official Trailer
"There's something wrong me, Edna. I don't know who I am!" Neon has unveiled an official trailer for an intriguing new film titled The Actor, starring Andre Holland as actor Paul Cole. Neon already has this set for release in March - even though it hasn't shown up at any festivals before then. It's the latest feature film made by the filmmaker who made the stop-motion animation film Anomalisa back in 2017. When New York actor Paul Cole is beaten and left for dead in 1950s Ohio, he loses his memory and finds himself stranded in a mysterious small town where he struggles to get back home and reclaim what he's lost. Without a sense of identity or purpose, he starts from scratch and begins courting a local costume designer. As bits & pieces of his past slowly emerge, he attempts to find his way home, but time is slippery, appearances can't be trusted, and it's unclear which identities are real. André Holland stars with Gemma Chan, May Calamawy, Asim Chaudhry, Joe Cole, Fabien Frankel, Olwen Fouéré, Edward Hogg, Toby Jones, & Tracey Ullman. Very strange story, very peculiar film, extremely experimental but also quite alluring - take a look. // Continue Reading ›

Uzo Aduba in White House Whodunit Series 'The Residence' Full Trailer
"We are the House. All these other people are not. It's us... versus them." Netflix has revealed a full official trailer for The Residence, a whodunit comedy murder mystery mini-series set at the White House. So who did it? Will she solve the crime? 132 rooms. 157 suspects. 1 dead body. Uzo Aduba stars in The Residence, Shondaland's new, unpredictable whodunnit set right inside The White House. This still seems like Netflix's comedic response to Hulu's Paradise series, also about the President being killed featuring Sterling K. Brown getting wrapped up in conspiracies trying to find out why. But this time it's more of a Knives Out-esque concept than a conspiracy thriller. The ensemble cast includes Aduba as Cordelia Cupp, Giancarlo Esposito, Edwina Findley, Molly Griggs, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Al Mitchell, Bronson Pinchot, Julieth Restrepo, Mel Rodriguez, Randall Park, Dan Perrault, Susan Kelechi Watson, Isiah Whitlock Jr., & Mary Wiseman. This looks hilarious! Impressive seeing Aduba take on this ENTIRE cast single-handedly, fighting back against their nonsense with some smart humor. I think I'll be watching this. // Continue Reading ›

Berlinale 2025: Petra Volpe's 'Late Shift' is a Riveting Tribute to Nurses
If you've ever spent time at a hospital, you know how incredibly hard working and dedicated nurses are. And how essential they are to keeping a hospital functioning while taking care of all of the patients. This Swiss film premiering at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival is a tribute to nurses while also acting as an urgent call to the world to make sure there are enough nurses working to take care of everyone all over the world. Heldin (which translates to Heroine in German) is the latest feature film made by the exceptionally talented Swiss filmmaker Petra Volpe, her third feature film following Dreamland and The Divine Order (another one of my favorites from 2017 - I interviewed Volpe during the release back then). The film is an intimate, intense, riveting thriller following Floria, a dedicated & caring nurse, who works the late shift in the cancer ward at an overcrowded, understaffed hospital in Switzerland. It's a brilliant tribute to many amazing, overworked nurses by showing us exactly what their work is like every single day. This is seriously powerful filmmaking. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for 'Eric LaRue' with Judy Greer & Alexander Skarsgard
"I think I'm really starting to understand more about the Lord's path for me..." Magnolia Pics has unveiled an official trailer for an indie drama titled Eric LaRue, the directorial debut of actor Michael Shannon. This originally premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival a few years back, and has never been released in the two years since. It also played at the Denver & Chicago Film Festivals that year. In Shannon's directorial debut adapted from Brett Neveu's 2002 renowned stage play, Janice (Greer) is struggling... In the aftermath of a shocking crime at the hands of her son, she moves through life in a haze, unable to let go of her anger and frustration. While her husband Ron has found refuge at a new church, Janice finds it hard to seek solace in her faith despite her pastor's pleas to heal her wounds within the congregation. As she ponders her role in the community, she questions whether there is any established path to healing from an experience such as hers. Starring Judy Greer, Alexander Skarsgård, Alison Pill, Paul Sparks, and Tracy Letts. This is finally opening in April this spring. It seems like it's very similar to Mass and We Need to Talk About Kevin. // Continue Reading ›

Watch: Coralie Fargeat's Homemade 'Star Wars' Movie Made on VHS
"General Solo, is your strike team assembled?" Time for a super fun blast from the past! Take a trip back into Coralie Fargeat's childhood. In honor of the Academy Award nominations for French director Coralie Fargeat's body horror film The Substance, Letterboxd has posted her very first film online. Fargeat dug up an old VHS tape from the 1990s that features her own homemade Star Wars movie - they scanned it and digitized it and now we can all enjoy it. Fargeat is nominated for Best Director at the Oscars this year, and The Substance has a total of five nominations. It's her second feature film after making Revenge (2017) previously. This homemade Star Wars (titled La Guerre des étoiles in French) is kind of a remix of all of the three original movies, and features miniatures / action figures, some footage borrowed from the movies, and some of her own footage shot with her friends in the woods. This clunky no-budget VHS filmmaking is so much fun to see! Those Stormtroopers are hilarious. Click on [cc] for English subtitles in the video below. // Continue Reading ›

Must See Trailer for 'Freaky Tales' Anthology Film Feat. Pedro Pascal
"Floyd's out there slicing people up with a sword!" Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for Freaky Tales, an anthology film set in Oakland in the late 1980s. This first premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival a whole year ago, to mostly mixed & positive reviews (I was there at the world premiere - it was a blast). It's finally getting an official theatrical release in April this spring after a long wait. From directors Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck, four interconnected stories set in 1987 in Oakland, California will tell about the love of music, movies, people, places, and memories beyond our knowable universe. The full cast features Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, Jay Ellis, Normani, Dominique Thorne, Jack Champion, Ji-young Yoo, Angus Cloud, and Tom Hanks (yep!). One segment is about a group of partygoers fighting back against neo-Nazi punks, another is about a basketball player getting revenge after a robbery, and one other segment is about a debt collector played by Pascal. They're all way more badass & edgy than expected, with some unforgettable moments throughout. I definitely recommend catching up with this when it opens. // Continue Reading ›

Brian Tyree Henry & Wagner Moura as Fake DEA in 'Dope Thief' Trailer
"You're a fugitive who can't leave Philly! What happens if we go to the police?" Apple TV has revealed the official trailer for a new crime thriller series called Dope Thief, arriving for streaming in March coming up soon. This is created by the same screenwriter from The Town and The Batman, based on the book "Dope Thief" written by Dennis Tafoya. This should be a hint at what to expect in terms of gritty storytelling. The streaming mini-series follows long-time friends and delinquents who pose as DEA agents to rob a house in the countryside in Pennsylvania, but end up unintentionally revealing and unraveling the biggest hidden narcotics corridor on the Eastern seaboard. They end up on the run from the crime syndicate who wants to get vengeance. The main cast features Brian Tyree Henry and Wagner Moura as Ray and Manny, with Marin Ireland, Kate Mulgrew, Nesta Cooper, Amir Arison, and Ving Rhames, plus many others. It really seems like they're playing Wagner Moura as Pedro Pascal in this. And it looks like it gets intense as hell with some shootouts and more showdowns! Another Promo Trailer for the Live-Action 'Snow White' Looks Terrible
"Point me in the right direction?" The right direction is to skip this. Disney has unveiled a new 60-second promo trailer for Snow White - the next "live-action" re-imagining of a classic animated movie - based on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). "Make way for the magical movie event." This fantastical music adventure journeys back into the timeless story featuring Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy. With all-new original songs from Benj Pasek & Justin Paul. Starring Rachel Zegler & Gal Gadot, who portray Snow White & the Evil Queen. Along with Andrew Burnap as Jonathan, Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman, Dujonna Gift as Maple, and Martin Klebba as Grumpy. Inspired by the Brothers' Grimm fairytale, the film follows an Evil Queen who is jealous of Snow White’s beauty and orders a Huntsman to kill her so she can be the most beautiful person in the land. Taking her deep into the woods, the Huntsman ultimately can’t bring himself to kill Snow White and, after running away, she befriends the seven dwarfs. Official Trailer for Zombie Survival Thriller 'Silent Zone' from Hungary
"No one is going to help you. You can only count on yourself." Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie zombie horror thriller film titled Silent Zone, made in Hungary by a big group of Hungarian filmmakers. The film is still in English and will be released in March on VOD for anyone to watch. The only synopsis available vaguely explains: In a zombie-ravaged world, a resourceful teen and her protector fight for survival, facing relentless dangers and testing the limits of hope and loyalty. Not sure what else is going on in this, as that's the only real description available so far. Silent Zone stars Matt Devere, Luca Papp, Nikolett Barabas, Declan Hannigan, with Alexis Latham. The only zombie movie I'm excited about is 28 Years Later. Everything post-apocalyptic nowadays must be like "The Last of Us" with a grizzled guy and a young girl. Official Trailer for Mystery Thriller 'Death 4 Dinner' with Michael Pare
"Great – now we're all stuck here with a murderer!" Gravitas has debuted the trailer for an indie mystery thriller titled Death 4 Dinner, which will be out on VOD in March. The latest film produced & directed by Lana Read, even though you've never heard of any of her previously films. "The devil is in the details." A savvy Detective and his partner attempt to unravel the mysterious sudden death of a prominent Senator, while simultaneously navigating his insanely quirky family & their fierce appetites for the now dead father's money. The film's cast includes Michael Paré, Wendell Kinney, John Savage, Cyril O'Reilly, Jessica Dawn Willis, Erik Fellows, Carly Wheeler, and Lenny Robinson. This sounds and looks like such a derivative film with an extra generic whodunit plot about greed & murder and all the usual shenanigans that come with these things. Berlinale 2025: Bong Joon-ho's 'Mickey 17' is Sharp Sci-Fi Wackiness
"You're an expendable! You're here to be expended." Perhaps we shouldn't consider any life as expendable. Bong Joon-ho's long-awaited new science fiction movie is finally here and finally ready to be experienced. This big budget, made-by-Hollywood sci-fi spectacle doesn't really belong at film festivals but hey I'll let it slide because it's worth watching anywhere. Mickey 17 is Bong Joon-ho's newest feature film project since winning all the Oscars with Parasite in 2019; it's adapted from the sci-fi novel titled "Mickey7" written by Edward Ashton. Bong upped the number of Mickey clones from 7 to 17 just for fun because 7 wasn't enough, to add in more clones to this futuristic story. Bong Joon-ho's other English-language science fiction movie Snowpiercer played at the 2014 Berlin Film Festival (I was there, too - read my original review) and now they've invited him back to the 2025 Berlin Film Festival to screen Mickey 17. There is nothing "chaotic" about this movie at all, it's occasionally wacky and funky and weird, but it's still a sharp, streamlined story about clones. This is Bong Joon-ho's Starship Troopers. It rules – and it's even better than Snowpiercer. // Continue Reading ›

"We can do it together." Break Out Pictures has unveiled their official UK trailer for an indie comedy called Four Mothers, opening in the UK + Ireland this April. This "funny and heartwarming comedy drama" first premiered at the 2024 London Film Festival last year where it won the Audience Award at the end of the fest. The tender dramedy film follows a struggling novelist who is forced to take care of three eccentric older women – and his own mother – over the course of a chaotic weekend in Dublin, Ireland. Edward is a queer, up-and-coming novelist forced to balance press commitments with caring for his aging mother. Pressure to go on a US book tour is mounting. But when his three closest friends, desperate to feel young and carefree again, go off on an impromptu Pride holiday, they leave their ageing mothers in Edward's care. This indie stars James McArdle with Fionnula Flanagan, Dearbhla Molloy, Stella McCusker, Paddy Glynn, Gaetan Garcia, and Niamh Cusack. Another one of these super hetero-normative "look how hot everyone is!" movies. Watch: 'The Brutalist' Composer Daniel Blumberg Gets a Featurette
"The way that I work is to bring in extraordinary artists... and create situations where they can be free." This exceptional score is nominated for an Academy Award this year and this video is being released during voting, in hopes of convincing more people to vote for it. The film already opened last year but considering it's one of the best films of the decade (including this score), happy to feature this video for an inside look at what went into making it. When visionary architect László Toth & his wife Erzsébet flee Europe in 1947 to rebuild their legacy and witness the birth of modern America, their lives are changed forever by an extremely wealthy benefactor - a man named Harrison Lee Van Buren Sr. Made by director Brady Corbet, written by Brady Corbet & Mona Fastvold, the film stars Adrien Brody as László, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cassidy, Stacy Martin, Emma Laird, with Isaach De Bankolé, and Alessandro Nivola. Shot on film and projected on film (in 35mm & 70mm). I'm one of many who have already been calling it a masterpiece, saying in my review it's a film "we will be celebrating for decades to come." Italian Horror 'Shadow of the Wolf' Trailer Feat. Christopher Lambert
"She saw things she wasn't supposed to see." Lionsgate has unveiled an official trailer for the US release of the indie horror film Shadow of the Wolf from Italy. Originally titled L'ombra del lupo in Italian, this is getting a VOD release in March after first premiering in 2018 years ago (and opening already in Italy at the end of 2020). Christopher Lambert and Maria Grazia Cucinotta star in a chilling tale of horror. When Nico returns from overseas to say farewell to his ailing mother in Italy, he discovers something monstrous is happening in the small town he once called home. As the list of grizzly murder victims begins to grow and the authorities fear the killer is a beast unlike anything that they have ever seen (you mean - a werewolf?), Nico senses a savage transformation within himself and uncovers the terrifying secret his family could never reveal. Another werewolf spin? The cast includes Raniero Monaco Di Lapio, Marianna Di Martino, Elisabetta De Vito, Fabrizio Vona, and Simone Riccioni.
