Venice 2024: 'The Order' is a Riveting Action Thriller About America
"It felt like a piece of work that needed to be made now," Jude Law explained during the press conference for this film. "It's interesting looking back, but it’s always interesting finding a piece from the past that has some relationship to the present day." Indeed it is. Especially a film like this. The Order is the latest action thriller film made by acclaimed Australian filmmaker Justin Kurzel, director of The Snowtown Murders, Macbeth, Assassin's Creed, True History of the Kelly Gang, and Nitram previously. After making tons of a bunch of films about criminals in Australia, he's telling a story about a notorious American criminal - a man named Bob Mathews. The Order follows one grizzled, determined FBI agent, played by Jude Law, who is on the hunt for Bob after he realizes what's really going while investigating a series of bank robberies in the Pacific Northwest. It's a completely true story and most of the character are based on real people. This two-hour-long action thriller is a riveting, intense story about neo-Nazis in America - and is as relevant as ever. // Continue Reading ›

'Blink' Doc Trailer - Following a Family Experiencing the World's Beauty
"Yes, they're going to need help, but at the same time, it's gonna be their life in their own way." National Geographic has revealed an official trailer for a documentary film titled Blink, following a Canadian family on an adventure of a lifetime. Or specifically – the lifetimes six human beings. After three of their children are diagnosed with an incurable eye condition, one family embarks on an epic journey to show them all of the beauty of the world before it vanishes for good. This is premiering at the 2024 Telluride Film Festival this weekend before it opens in theaters in October. Based in Montreal, Quebecois couple Edith Lemay and Sébastien Pelletier are parents to Mia, Léo, Colin and Laurent. Mia was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at age 7, as were her younger brothers. While spending this year traveling the world together, they received extensive media attention and were filmed for this doc. Blink of an Eye (the original title) chronicles their journey to experience the world's beauty while preparing for an inevitable future. This is really lovely and heartwarming and inspiring, but I wonder how they could afford all this travel? Still - really want to see this. // Continue Reading ›

Venice 2024: Nicole Kidman Explores Her Sub Kink in 'Babygirl' Film
Is it time to finally start talking about our sexual kinks without worrying about being shamed by others? This is definitely the vibe this film is putting out. Is this film going to help us normalize this conversation? Maybe not, but at least it's a start... Maybe it is time we all stop hiding our kinks and start letting them into wild? Though that can be dangerous - which is also another vibe this film is putting out. Tread carefully. The first step is actually admitting your kinks and exploring them, understanding them, and not letting shame be the overwhelming emotion. Just watch out, you might get in trouble if you do this in your office at work. Babygirl is the second feature film directed by Dutch actor / filmmaker Halina Reijn after Bodies Bodies Bodies. It's an empowering sexual exploration thriller with some light humor, exploring the dynamics and pitfalls of a relationship between a high power corporate CEO and a young intern at her company. Alas it's rather tame in the sex department but nonetheless I enjoyed it - we need a proper fantasy film like this now. // Continue Reading ›

First Look Teaser for Time Capsule Doc Film 'One To One: John & Yoko'
John & Yoko in NYC! Mercury Studios has revealed a first look teaser trailer for a compelling documentary film titled One To One: John & Yoko, which is premiering now at the 2024 Venice Film Festival. The doc is a time capsule that takes us back to the year of 1972, when John Lennon & Yoko Ono appeared in New York City and riled up the culture and politics by getting involved in activism and showing up on TV (also see: Daytime Revolution). Set in 1972 New York, this documentary explores John and Yoko's world amid a turbulent era. Centered on the "One to One" charity concert for special needs children, it features unseen archives, home movies, and restored footage. A unique take on a seminal time in the lives of one of music’s most famous couples, One To One: John & Yoko explores the 18 months that John Lennon and Yoko Ono spent living in Greenwich Village in the early 70s - and how their relationship is changed by their experience in America. This is also the time when they almost got kicked out of the US on a bogus marijuana charge. I've seen this doc and it's excellent - a fascinating look back at another turbulent time in America's history. // Continue Reading ›

New US Trailer for Quantum Mechanics Thriller 'The Universal Theory'
"This young man here is working on something very significant." Oscilloscope Labs has revealed an official US trailer for a film titled The Universal Theory, a mysterious sci-fi-tinged thriller set deep in the Swiss mountains. This first premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival one year ago under the original title The Theory of Everything, and it earned mostly mixed reviews (mine is here). The noir film is set in 1962. A physics congress in the Alps. An Iranian guest. A mysterious pianist. A bizarre cloud in the sky, a booming mystery under the mountain. It's "a quantum mechanical thriller in black & white." Driven by astonishing twists and improbable coincidences, The Universal Theory unravels a captivatingly complex chronicle with brain-tickling suspense. Cast with a fantastic ensemble and interspersed with a dynamic soundtrack, The Theory of Everything is an intellectual film about the contingency of our world, in which much is possible and hardly anything is necessary. Starring Jan Bülow as Leinert, Olivia Ross as Karin, Hanns Zischler, Gottfried Breitfuss, David Bennent, & Philippe Graber. This is such a radical little film that I hope gets seen by more and more people now that it's finally getting US release. Take a look at the footage below. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for 'The Herricanes' Doc - 70s Women's Football League
"As women - why wouldn't we want to play America's game?" Blue Harbor Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for a documentary film called The Herricanes, a fascinating look back at sports history with an eye on moderns athletes, too. This doc premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival last year and won the Audience Award in the Doc Spotlight section. The Houston Herricanes were a part of the first women's full tackle football league in the 1970s. Their unknown story is one of commitment, courage, and strength. Despite adversity and hardship, they fielded a team purely for the love of the game. What they started is a movement that is still in motion today. These groundbreaking ladies from all different walks of life came to the field with little to no experience but together they made history, even if it hasn't been told yet. Despite this story, and much progress since, there's still setbacks... As the number one sport in America, football is still only visibly played by men, and still remains the final frontier for women in sports. This documentary explores the larger question of what it means when America's most popular sport is only visible among men. // Continue Reading ›

Review: Andres Veiel's 'Riefenstahl' is a Damning Look at Her Nazi Past
One of the most eye-opening, chilling, fascinating, and frightening documentaries this year just premiered at the Venice Film Festival. It's titled Riefenstahl, referencing the iconic & also infamous German female filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl. The film is sort of a biopic taking us through her life as a filmmaker, though it actually ends up being an indictment regarding her past association with the Nazis in the 1930s & 40s. It's the latest film directed by acclaimed German filmmaker Andres Veiel, who previously made the excellent doc Beuys (which I saw at the 2017 Berlin Film Festival and wrote about back then). For much of the film, I was wondering if Veiel is trying to portray Riefenstahl as a misunderstood artist unfairly scrutinized, or if he was going to lean in on hinting she has always been a Nazi. It's the latter. There's no debate anymore. After watching scene after scene of irrefutable evidence (which she always refutes) this becomes an eye-opening experience. By the end, I couldn't stop thinking this is a doc version of The Zone of Interest. It shows how a talented visionary artist who pioneered techniques could wholeheartedly support a dehumanizing ideology. // Continue Reading ›

Delightful Trailer for Adam Elliot's 'Memoir of a Snail' Stop-Motion Film
"I believe in glasses half-full and silver linings..." IFC has revealed the official US trailer for the wonderful stop-motion animated film Memoir of a Snail, the latest creation from animation maestro Adam Elliot. It's set for a US release in October this fall. Adam won an Oscar in 2004 for his short Harvie Krumpet, but he is best known for his exceptional stop-motion film Mary and Max, which premiered at Sundance 2009. He's back again 15 years later with his second feature. A bittersweet memoir of a melancholic woman called Grace Pudel - a hoarder of snails, romance novels, & guinea-pigs. Set in 1970s Australia, her life is troubled by misfortune & loss. After their mom dies during pregnancy, she and her twin brother, Gilbert, are raised by their paraplegic-alcoholic former juggler father, Percy. Despite a life filled with love, tragedy strikes when Percy passes away in his sleep. The siblings are separated and thrust into different homes to grow up. With voices of Sarah Snook as Grace, Jacki Weaver, Eric Bana, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Dominique Pinon, Magda Szubanski, with Nick Cave. I totally adore this film - I wrote a glowing review which is quoted in this trailer. I'm more than happy to bring more attention to it! Watch: Every Frame a Painting's Video About the 'Sustained Two-Shot'
"You can just point the camera and let the scene play out... Let the actors do what they do: tell the story." There is a brand new cinema video essay out this week from the iconic YouTube channel known as "Every Frame a Painting". They originally ran from 2014 to 2016 (we posted many back then) then stopped for a while. Now they're back preparing to release a short film called The Second. This video essay is about "The Sustained Two-Shot," which they use in their short film. The two-shot is a filmmaking / cinematography technique of framing two actors in conversation together. Sustained means it keeps going through the scene - with major examples referenced from films like Pulp Fiction, There Will Be Blood, The Dark Knight, Good Will Hunting, La La Land, The Big Lebowski, and many other classics. There's also a famously long one in Steve McQueen's Hunger. If you're a filmmaker or just want to learn more, this is a must watch video essay. // Continue Reading ›

Teaser Trailer for Strange Political Comedy 'Rumours' from Guy Maddin
"The giant brain!!" Bleecker Street has revealed the first teaser trailer for Rumours, an extra funky dark comedy about politics from the filmmakers Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson. This oriignally premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year to mostly mixed to negative reviews, as it burns out pretty quickly after a hilarious start. In times of global crisis, the brightest and biggest brains of the free world gather to provide leadership. The "wildly entertaining" Rumours film is an apocalyptic horror-comedy about how dumb politicians really are. The leaders of seven wealthy democracies come together during a G7 summit in Germany. But they end up getting lost in the woods when everyone else suddenly disappears and they can't where to go, facing danger as they attempt to find their way out. The ensemble cast of politicians features Cate Blanchett (Germany), Roy Dupuis (Canada), Nikki Amuka-Bird (UK), Charles Dance (USA), Takehiro Hira (Japan), Denis Ménochet (France), Rolando Ravello (Italy), + Zlatko Buric and Alicia Vikander. Official Trailer for 'The Radleys' Dark Comedy About a Vampire Family
"We've wanted to live as normal a life as possible." Sky Cinemas has revealed their official trailer for a dark comedy called The Radleys, arriving in UK cinemas this fall. We missed this trailer when it first appeared but happy to catch up with it. The film just premiered at the 2024 Edinburgh Film Festival last week, though it still has no US date set. It's the story of a seemingly ordinary family with a dark secret: they are vampires. However, they're abstaining vampires. They choose not to drink blood despite their own natural cravings, but their truth is revealed one day. The shocking revelation encourages lovesick son Rowan and previously vegan Clara to question their own identity and suppressed desires. Peter's twin brother Will arrives (played by Damian Lewis in a dual role as both). A proud, practicing vampire who openly embraces his hedonistic, bloodthirsty lifestyle, Will forces the family to face their repressed urges even more intensely. Can the family continue to hold back their hidden bloodlust, or will they give in to their true nature? Lewis stars with Kelly Macdonald, Shaun Parkes, Harry Baxendale, Bo Bragason, & Sophia Di Martino. The film seems very similar to the Quebecois vamp comedy Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person as well. // Continue Reading ›

Extra Teaser for Sci-Fi Film 'Meanwhile on Earth' with Megan Northam
"A stunning sci-fi experience." Metrograph Pics has revealed another teaser for the indie sci-fi film titled Meanwhile on Earth, from French filmmaker Jérémy Clapin. It's now rescheduled to open in November, shifting a few months from the initial September date for a better fit later in the fall. This first premiered at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival earlier in the year. Jérémy Clapin is the same director who made the excellent animated film I Lost My Body, which anyone can now watch on Netflix. In this new film, a young woman is contacted by her missing brother, an astronaut who vanished on a mission, but all is not what it seems in this sci-fi thriller. The intro from Berlinale explains: "Siblings Elsa & Franck were always very close. When Franck mysteriously disappeared during a space mission three years ago, everything changed for Elsa. Since then, the 23-year-old has struggled to move on with her life. One day she is contacted by an unidentified life form who offers to bring her brother back to Earth. Eerie New Trailer for 'Monsters: The Lyle & Erik Menendez Story' Series
"It's just us now... we're on our own." Netflix has debuted a second teaser for true crime series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, from Ryan Murphy & Ian Brennan. From the makers of Dahmer comes this series streaming in September. It's a dramatic version of their story, not really a doc series, but a thriller series based on a real crime examining what might've been the actual story. Two wealthy brothers stand trial for killing their parents, claiming self-defense after years of abuse, while prosecutors allege greed as the motive. The story follows Lyle and Erik Menendez, two brothers who fatally shot their parents in their Beverly Hills home in 1989. During their trials, the brothers cited years of abuse as the reason for murdering their parents. However, prosecutors argued that their motive was to get their hands on the family fortune. Javier Bardem & Chloë Sevigny star as their parents Jose & Kitty Menendez, with newcomers Nicholas Alexander Chavez & Cooper Koch portraying brothers Lyle & Erik Menendez. Nathan Lane also co-stars as the journalist Dominick Dunne. That's a great cast though we barely see any of them in this. // Continue Reading ›

Laugh At This: Beetlejuice Goes on 'Hot Ones' and Argues with Keaton
"Who the hell are you?" Some might know him as... Batman! Warner Bros has dropped in a funny comedy promo for the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sequel. This highly anticipated Burton follow-up is premiering this week at the Venice Film Festival, then opening in theaters the week after. This promo is a riff on the famous Hot Ones YouTube series, featuring comedian Sean Evans interviewing celebrities while they eat chicken wings with burning hot sauce on them. But this is an unofficial riff - so it's literally just the actor Michael Keaton interviewing the character Betelgeuse, resulting in some extra strange moments. But it isn't long enough! Barely 90 seconds! I'd watch a full 15 minute YouTube with these shenanigans, but I guess they'd need the real Sean Evans from Hot Ones on there. (They did recently get Donald Duck on for real in another Hot Ones promo.) Keaton returns as the miscreant Betelgeuse and Winona Ryder stars again as Lydia, in this horror comedy sequel from maestro director Tim Burton. We've already posted all of the trailers for this movie before. Just a funny promo video to keep a buzz going before it opens in theaters soon. 🌶 Enjoy. // Continue Reading ›

Starring Robin Williams, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck, Good Will Hunting shows the most brilliant mind at America's top university isn’t a student, he is the kid who cleans the floors... Will is a headstrong, working-class genius who is failing the lessons of life. After one too many run-ins with the law, Will’s last chance is a psychology professor, who might be the only man who can reach him. Finally forced to deal with his past, Will discovers that the only one holding him back is himself. For a long time, I kept confusing this film with Dead Poets Society - both uplifting stories set at universities about learning to understand & harness your own intelligence. The GWH cast also includes Cole Hauser, Minnie Driver, and Stellan Skarsgård. If you haven't seen it in a while, give this a watch this weekend. And enjoy these classic original trailers below. // Continue Reading ›

First Trailer for 'The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim' Anime
"The boy I knew would never wish for war." Warner Bros has unveiled the first epic trailer for the animated movie The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, the first big LOTR animated movie to be made. This is set for a theatrical release in December right around Christmas - they're still sticking with the plan to open this on the big screen. Set 183 years before the events of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, The War of the Rohirrim tells the story of Helm Hammerhand, a legendary king of Rohan, and his family as they defend their kingdom against an army of Dunlendings. Helm goes on to be the namesake for the stronghold Helm's Deep. The cast includes Brian Cox as Helm, Gaia Wise as Hèra, Luke Pasqualino as Wulf, Laurence Ubong Williams as Fréaláf, Shaun Dooley as Freca, Miranda Otto (returning) to narrate as Éowyn. The team of creative collaborators returning from the trilogy also includes Oscar winners Alan Lee & Richard Taylor, and Tolkien illustrator John Howe; it's produced by Fran Walsh & Peter Jackson as well, making it very much a LOTR trilogy spin-off story rather than something new. This looks badass! Fire up the trailer below. // Continue Reading ›

Fun Official UK Trailer for 'Bookworm' Adventure Feat. Elijah Wood
"Can I make one thing perfectly clear? This tent is a fart-free zone. Clear?" Signature Ent. in the UK has unveiled their own official trailer for the adventure comedy from New Zealand titled Bookworm. This is releasing now in NZ & Australia this month, with a UK release set for direct-to-VOD this November. It will likely also hit VOD in the US this fall but nothing has been confirmed yet. Eleven year old Mildred's world is turned upside-down when her estranged father, the washed-up magician Strawn Wise, comes to look after her and agrees to take her camping to find a mythological beast known as the Canterbury Panther. Elijah Wood stars as her eccentric absent dad who returns home to her in New Zealand, with Nell Fisher as Mildred, and a small indie cast including Morgana O’Reilly, Michael Smiley, & Vanessa Stacey. Plus the beautiful NZ wilderness as a character and the backdrop. It's impossible not to compare this to Waititi's Hunt for the Wilderpeople, with the same kind of vibe. Though it does still have some quirky fun ideas of its own, and looks especially amusing when Wood tries to using his magician skills at the most awkward times. // Continue Reading ›

"Let's boogie!!" It's time to get Freako!! Shout Studios has debuted the full official trailer for a wacky horror (maybe??) comedy called Frankie Freako, the latest by filmmaker Steven Kostanski behind the other cult classic horror faves Manborg, The Void, and Psycho Goreman. Well this looks off the charts weird! This movie "taps into the nostalgia of Saturday morning cartoons, the charm of old-school puppetry, and gonzo comedy." Workaholic yuppie Conor is in an existential rut until one night he catches a bizarre ad for a party hotline hosted by a strange dancing goblin: Frankie Freako. Could this be just the secret to spice up his boring life? Soon his home is overrun with interdimensional beings that bring chaos to his life and he must figure out how to get rid of them. Frankie Freako stars Conor Sweeney as the dweeb Conor, with Adam Brooks, and Kristy Wordsworth as his wife. Featuring tons of freaky funky goblin puppets galore and so many over-the-top set pieces tossed in. With old school filmmaking vibes. This looks crazy! This is set to premiere streaming on Max and on HBO in September this fall. "The man behind the cultural phenomenon." Pedro Almodóvar's 'The Room Next Door' Teaser with Moore & Swinton
Meet Ingrid & Martha. Sony Classics has revealed a first look teaser trailer for The Room Next Door, the first ever English language feature from beloved Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar. A few of his recent short films have been in English (including The Human Voice and Strange Way of Life) but this is the first feature that's entirely in English; adapted from "What Are You Going Through" by Sigrid Nunez. The plot deals with the rift between two old friends Martha, a very imperfect mother and war correspondent, and the author Ingrid. They were close friends in their youth, working at the same magazine, but now they're writing entirely different things and have drifted apart it seems. The drama stars Julianne Moore as Ingrid, and Tilda Swinton as Martha, with Alessandro Nivola, John Turturro, Alex Høgh Andersen, Melina Matthews, Juan Diego Botto, Victoria Luengo, and Esther McGregor. Featurettes About Bear McCreary's New Score for 'The Rings of Power'
"All the crossroads converge as Galadriel faces Sauron." Prime Video has revealed a series of featurettes for Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power focusing on the score by composer Bear McCreary (known for The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Godzilla: King of the Monsters). In Season 2, after the finale of Season 1: Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. The latest trailer looks incredible, even bigger & better this time. Bear McCreary returns after composing the score for Season 1 and continues to follow in the footsteps of maestro Howard Shore to create a new score for Middle Earth. He doesn't talk about that much in these videos below, but he does say how he's excited every single day to work on this. He talks about Galadriel fighting Sauron, the darker themes of the series, and the how they've evolved in Season 2. "If this is the live you've chosen, don't make the same mistakes he did." Netflix has revealed one more real teaser for the upcoming animated series called Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, based on the video games (not the movies). Only a few months to go until this is out! Picking up after the events of the highly successful Tomb Raider video game Survivor trilogy as told in 2013's Tomb Raider, 2015's Rise of the Tomb Raider, and 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the animated series follows Lara Croft as she takes on the role of the iconic tomb raider that she is destined to become. Along with Atwell, the voice cast includes Allen Maldonado as Zip, and Earl Baylon reprising his role as Jonah from Tomb Raider video games, and other voices not yet revealed. The much crazier teaser also debuted recently. From the writer of "The End of the F*cking World" and the producers of Chernobyl. Kaos is a mythological dark-comedy series created by Charlie Covell - available for streaming in a few weeks. The series revolves around six human beings on Earth as they discover their connection to each other and to a long standing ancient prophecy while they deal with corrupt and arrogant gods of the Greek mythology. Official Trailer for Myanmar Prison Fight Action Movie 'The Lockdown'
"You're in a death factory. Unless you figure out how to survive... you won't." Even that one line is awful. Republic Pictures via Paramount has revealed an official trailer for The Lockdown, a martial arts action thriller from filmmaker Ryan C Jaeger making his feature directorial debut. Another of these direct-to-video dumps, an exceptionally generic action movie from Myanmar made by the same producers that also made Art of Eight Limbs. Looks like they made two films in a row in Myanmar and Thailand and this is the second one. Siblings Charlie and Jack are trapped in Myanmar's toughest prison and accused of a crime they didn't commit. Forced into televised fights against other inmates, they must work together and fight hard for their freedom. Starring Caity Lotz, Leo Howard, Michael Biehn, Hon Ping Tang, Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, and Kelly B. Jones, and many others. Teaser Trailer for Ryan Murphy's Horror Series 'Grotesquerie' from FX
"I don't know how it started... It's like a hole opened in the world – to the center of nothingness..." FX has revealed a very eerie teaser trailer for the new Ryan Murphy horror series called Grotesquerie. It's set for a streaming debut in September this fall just in time for this year's horror season. In Ryan Murphy's 10-episode event, a series of heinous crimes have unsettled a small community. Detective Lois Tryon feels these crimes are eerily personal, as if someone—or something—is taunting her. With no leads and unsure of where to turn, she accepts the help of Sister Megan. However, they find themselves ensnared in a sinister web that only seems to raise more questions than answers. Grotesquerie stars Niecy Nash-Betts as Lois, Courtney B. Vance as Marshall Tryon, Lesley Manville as Nurse Redd, Micaela Diamond as Sister Megan, plus Nicholas Alexander Chavez as Father Charlie, Raven Goodwin as Merritt Tryon, and strangely it also has football player / Taylor Swift boyfriend Travis Kelce. Martial Arts Action 'Art of Eight Limbs' Official Trailer with Ludi Lin
"We look forward to seeing you fight." Republic Pictures via Paramount has unveiled the official trailer for Art of Eight Limbs - the title is just another term for Muay Thai Boxing. The martial arts action movie is playing in select theaters now before it's on VOD later this month. A small release that we've barely heard about. Four canisters of deadly VX nerve gas have fallen into the hands of an arms dealer in Myanmar. A CIA data analyst goes undercover to infiltrate a martial arts tournament that masks an auction of the deadly nerve gas, where he finds himself as the last hope against a time-ticking global threat. Can he pull off a win and save the world? Chinese-Canadian actor Ludi Lin (who played Liu Kang in the recent 2021 Mortal Kombat movie) stars as the CIA analyst. The cast includes Thai actors Sahajak Boonthanakit & Vithaya Pansringarm, both were in Nicolas Winding Refn's Only God Forgives, as the villains; along with Grace Vorananth, Nicholas Hammond, Ron Smoorenburg, and Tofan Pirani. This film is being given a big nationwide release in theaters in late September. Shot on 35mm around the city, the film unfolds as a poignant comedy of misadventures amidst the oppressive heat of a single summer day. Demi Moore & Margaret Qualley in Wild Horror 'The Substance' Trailer
"An enraged scream in cinematic form." It's the second feature directed by horror filmmaker Coralie Fargeat, who makes very bloody horror flicks. "Have you dreamt of a better version of yourself? You. Only better in every way. Seriously." You’ve got to try this new product. It’s called The Substance. IT CHANGED MY LIFE. It generates another you. A new, younger, more beautiful, more perfect, you. Explosive, provocative, & twisted, The Substance marks the arrival of a visionary filmmaker." This grotesque & crazy body horror totally rocks (my review). Watch: Spooky Teaser for 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?' Horror Series
Take a look at this long lost footage from a reboot of the kid's horror series Are You Afraid of the Dark? that never actually made it into production. Thanks to a tip from the director behind this reboot, a tiny bit of footage has appeared online. Director Jared Pelletier explains "this was shot years ago when the IP was being rebooted." He was developing this for the studio before they greenlit a "lighter version". The original Are You Afraid of the Dark? was a children's horror anthology TV series from D.J. MacHale & Ned Kandel showing on Nickelodeon. It first aired on Nickelodeon from 1992 to 1996, with another different reboot that ran from 2019 to 2022. This teaser footage is for a darker version. Pelletier says, "this version took a darker 90s approach, when shows like Goosebumps were decidedly unafraid to scare kids." Alas this is all we'll see of it for now - the rest of the pilot likely won't ever be released. It's barely 40 secs but it's cool to see anyway. // Continue Reading ›
