Sundance 2026: Wicker Man Alexander Skarsgard in Terrific 'Wicker'
This is a story of a man made of wicker. And the disruption he inadvertently causes when he turns out to be the most charming gentleman in the village. Every year the iconic Sundance Film Festival there's a couple of extremely bizarre, especially peculiar, innovative cinematic creations that are almost too weird to work. Last year there was a very not-so-good, extremely weird film about cabbage (and it being banned) called Bubble & Squeak. The extra kooky Sundance 2026 film that everyone is talking about is called Wicker - and this is a good one. It's the second feature film from talented filmmakers Alex Huston Fischer & Eleanor Wilson, the same duo that made their feature directorial debut with the peculiar sci-fi comedy Save Yourselves! at Sundance 2020. This time they have given us a fable about marriage and jealousy and gossip and intimacy in a medieval town. It's especially watchable, laugh-out-loud funny at times, and impressive in many unique ways. These kind of weird stories can work well when they're handled by some of the smartest filmmakers. // Continue Reading ›

Watch: Film Critic Will Bjarnar's Best Films of 2025 Video Countdown
Let's celebrate more cinema! Always and forever. Even though we may have moved on from 2025, it's still worthwhile to look back at the many outstanding films from last year. Yet another new video countdown has debuted - this one is created by a young film critic named Will Bjarnar. This video featuring his 25 Best Films of 2025 is inspired by David Ehrlich's usual Top 25 Countdown video and follows the same kind of editing. Bjarnar counts down his favorites from 2025, featuring tons of our own favorites as well. I'm so glad to see Sirat, Lurker, Urchin, The Love That Remains, Eephus, Train Dreams, Sinners, and everything else. But it really is just One Battle After Another's big year – he even edited clips from it throughout into the video. We've also featured a few other great 2025 video recaps: Letterboxd's Dance 'Til You Drop, Patrick & Kyle's 25 Best Films of 2025 video, + James Chapman's 10 Best Movies artwork. Watch Will's Top 25 below. // Continue Reading ›

Official US Trailer for Gianfranco Rosi's 'Pompei: Below the Clouds' Doc
"Time destroys everything, preserves everything, and then returns to us in an unexpected way." Mubi has revealed the full official US trailer for Pompei: Below the Clouds, the latest compelling observational documentary film made by award-winning Italian filmmaker Gianfranco Rosi. This first premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival last year, under the name Sotto le nuvole (just Below the Clouds), with stops at the Toronto, Busan, London, New York, Vienna, Stockholm, and Chicago Film Festivals as well. A cinematic B&W portrait of life in the city of Naples, Italy in the south. Naples is a city forever marked by the looming presence of Mount Vesuvius (which destroyed Pompeii back in 79 AD). Beneath the quiet threat of eruption, people go about their days: archaeologists unearth the past, children learn as the earth hums, firefighters wait for the next call. "Below the clouds lies a territory criss-crossed by inhabitants, worshippers, tourists and archaeologists excavating the past — and by those who, in museums, strive to give new life and meaning to statues, fragments and ruins." Ready to watch in US theaters this March if anyone wants to give it a look. // Continue Reading ›

Sundance 2026: Andrew Stanton's Sci-Fi Film 'In the Blink of an Eye'
"In the blink of an eye everything can change. So forgive often and love with all your heart." –Zig Ziglar. One of my most anticipated films at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival (original list here) is one of the only sci-fi films within the 2026 line-up. In the Blink of the Eye is acclaimed Pixar director (and sci-fi geek) Andrew Stanton's first live-action feature film since making John Carter (which I am a big fan of) back in 2012. This long-awaited triptych feature is based on The Black List screenplay of the same name, written by screenwriter Colby Day. I'm very happy I had a chance to see this on the big screen at the world premiere at Sundance in the famous Eccles Theatre – especially since it's going out direct-to-streaming on Hulu in February when Searchlight Pictures releases it. While I do think it deserves the chance to be experienced & enjoyed on the big screen, and they should let it play in theaters for a little bit, it is also the kind of film that will work just fine at home watching it on your TV. It's not the most visually spectacular movie – it's much more about the characters, the intimacy, and the philosophy of the stories rather than the spectacle of it all. // Continue Reading ›

"We're going to slay every single Breaker... and the world won't be broken anymore." Aura Ent. revealed a final promo trailer for the sci-fi action thriller titled Worldbreaker, a post-apocalyptic creature feature movie opening in theaters this week. The latest from gritty genre filmmaker Brad Anderson. "This world has been broken many times." On a remote island, Willa lives under the watch of her father, a battle-scarred vet who trains her to survive while her mother fights monstrous "Breakers" creatures on the front lines. When a girl washes ashore, Willa discovers the war they fled has found them—and she must choose to run or fight. In a world ravaged by otherworldly creatures called Breakers, Willa and her father survive alone. As the Breakers close in, Willa and Dad must prepare for the real battle still ahead. From director Brad Anderson (The Machinist, The Call), Worldbreaker is a pulse-pounding sci-fi action thriller about survival, sacrifice, and a young woman's fight to step out of the shadows and into the war she was born to face. Starring Luke Evans, Billie Boullet, Mila Harris, Kevin Glynn, and Milla Jovovich. It looks pretty cool! Some epic post-apocalyptic freaky creature world building. Rod Blackhurst's Scary Giant Doll Horror Movie 'Dolly' Official Trailer
"This March - Mother knows best." Shudder & IFC have unveiled the creepy official trailer for a horror film titled Dolly, about a gigantic doll-like monster. This premiered at last year's TIFF in the Midnight section, then it played at tons of genre festivals including at Sitges, Fantastic Fest, Screamfest, Morbido, ToHorror, FrightFest, and the Telluride Horror Show in the fall. Macy fights for survival after being abducted by a deranged, monster-like figure who wants to raise her as their child. Dolly unleashes terror in the woods and embraces gritty craftsmanship, practical effects, and a sense of place that bleeds into every frame. It is a deliberate nod to the legacy of homemade horror born in the woods. Starring Fabianne Therese, Seann William Scott, Ethan Suplee, Russ Tiller, Kate Cobb, Michalina Scorzelli, and Max the Impaler. This is a legit throwback trailer that also reminds me of the classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and the first Evil Dead – same kind of old school horror vibes. Horror fans must see! Dane DeHaan & Mamoudou Athie in Hacker Thriller 'Wardriver' Trailer
"Did you think you could just get away with it?" Well, he did say he knows he will get caught one day! The Avenue has revealed the first official trailer for Wardriver, a hacking thriller arriving to watch starting in March. He'a a Wardriver: a hacker who steals from banks, not people — until he's noticed. Now the money turns violent, and the woman caught in it could save him or kill them both. This modern thriller stars Dane DeHaan, Sasha Calle, William Belleau, Karina Gale, Cameron Lee Price, with Mamoudou Athie and Jeffrey Donovan. Cole prowls the city “Wardriving”—hacking from his car, always on the move—until tech predator Oscar forces him into a million-dollar heist where every line of code could be his last. Hack the planet! An interesting premise for a thriller but it doesn't seem remotely realistic or believable, even in the tech crazy world we live in now. This looks less about hacking and more about how attractive all these people in it are. They're releasing it in theaters for only one week, but looks like direct-to-streaming quality. // Continue Reading ›

Sundance 2026: 'Run Amok' is a Disastrously Bad High School Movie
There's always a few intriguing indie creations in the Sundance Film Festival line-up that are frustratingly bad, atrociously misguided films. Unfortunately I watched one of them at the 2026 fest called Run Amok and boy did it bother me. I'm not one to dig into a film, but this deserves serious criticism. This is one of the most shockingly bad examples of wrong-headed storytelling despite good intentions, and despite a desire to openly address a major problem in American society. Based on the short film of the same name, Run Amok is director NB Mager's feature directorial debut after making a few other shorts as well. When it begins it just seems to be another offbeat, nerdy story of a high school music geek coming-of-age as she works to put on a musical for a special event at the school. Once it reveals what's really going on in it and what it's really trying to comment on, instead of building up to anything sharp and cathartic and clever, it instead flounders and flops around. The result is cringy, surface-level commentary that ends up offending rather than helping. // Continue Reading ›

Cheesy Fantasy Action 'Storm Rider: Legend of Hammerhead' Trailer
"Turn the tide, chase the storm." Blue Harbor has revealed an official trailer for Storm Rider: Legend of Hammerhead, a Croatian production trying to be a major new fantasy action thriller series. This looks so cheap & cheesy, but that's how most movies are these days. Set in a post-apocalyptic future where the world is covered by water and divided by a colossal storm, the plot follows a young rebel who challenges the world order to discover the truth about its real origins. Three centuries after a "Great Flood," humanity clings to scattered islands beneath an endless Storm. Argos, a fortified city, promises safety to those who can survive Storm Riding. But two renegade Riders dare to breach the Storm, chasing a truth that could expose Argos as humanity’s last hope or its greatest lie. It's the first in a planned franchise called the "Hydroverse" but who knows if they'll make more. Starring Marco Ilso, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Gilles Geary, Ivana Dudic, Goran Bogdan, Neb Chupin, Billy Barratt, Caroline Goodall, & James Cosmo. This looks like a bad AI-generated "what if Croatia remade Waterworld?" movie. Some cool visuals but that's about it. // Continue Reading ›

First Trailer for Late-Night Reality Series 'Neighbors' from A24 & HBO
"My attorney will bury you!" A24 & HBO have unveiled an official trailer for a new late-night reality series called Neighbors, a sort of old school throwback to capturing the "crazy lives of normal people" series that we used to see on HBO all the time (I was a fan of "Insomniac with Dave Attell" growing up). This explosive unfiltered series explores the chaotic & complicated disputes of neighbors... and also the extreme lengths they’ll go to defend what's theirs. Created and directed by Harrison Fishman & Dylan Redford, it examines stories of absurd, outrageous, and dramatic real-life residential conflicts from a wide range of larger-than-life characters across the US, opening a verité portal into the lives of contemporary Americans. Touring the US with new episodes weekly. "We wanted everything to feel like it was happening in real time, to put the viewer right in the middle of the conflict and get to know these people deeply." Ha! This sounds totally crazy – and a bit voyeuristic turning these disputes into streaming entertainment. But hey, that's America for you. // Continue Reading ›

Warner Bros Spain has debuted the main official Spanish trailer for the new Pedro Almodóvar film ready for release starting in March in Spain. Official Trailer for Scottish Film 'Glenrothan' - Directed by Brian Cox
"We all make mistakes, Dad. It's how we handle it that counts..." Lionsgate UK has revealed the first official trailer for the film titled Glenrothan, the feature directorial debut of Scottish actor Brian Cox. This first premiered at TIFF last year and also played at the Rome Film Festival. Legendary actor Brian Cox makes his indelible directorial debut with this tense drama about family and forgiveness, featuring fellow actors Alan Cumming & Shirley Henderson (and Cox also co-stars in it). Two brothers following a violent exchange with their father on the day of their mother's funeral, the younger of the two left their Highland home for America. After 40 years they reunite in the land of their birth. The cast also includes Alexandra Shipp and Siobhan Redmond. TIFF adds that the film "digs deep into the complexities of familial ties and fissures, set against the proud but threatened tradition of making some of the world's finest whisky. [This] offers Cumming one of his richest onscreen roles, facing off against Cox who, behind or before the camera, infuses every scene with a sense of fraught history and stubborn hope." Sundance 2026: 'Frank & Louis' is Another Emotional Prison Drama
There is nothing more important in this world than taking care of others. In general, we all need to learn to be more caring and more open and more empathetic. I'm always touched by good films that take their time to remind us of this, telling heartfelt stories that deserve to be told even if they're not about your life. Frank & Louis is a passion project from acclaimed Swiss filmmaker Petra Volpe, it's a film she has been trying to make for over a decade since first visiting a prison in California in 2014. It's finally finished and ready to meet the world - premiering at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in the Premieres section. It was an honor to be in attendance at the world premiere at the festival, as I believe a film like this is especially powerful when an audience is experiencing it together – feeling all the emotions, and connecting with all the people in the story. There are many films set in prisons, often stories about inmates trying to hold on to their humanity in such an awful place. And while this is yet another prison film joining the ranks, it stands out in many ways. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for 'Miracle: The Boys of '80' Netflix Hockey History Doc
"We had the audacity to believe we could do it." And they did it! Netflix has revealed the official trailer for Miracle: The Boys of '80, their new documentary on the famous 1980 US Hockey victory in the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. It's also the same story told in the famous movie also called Miracle starring Kurt Russell (one of my all-time favorite sports movies). Just in time for this year's Winter Olympics - you can catch this doc streaming online. A young hockey team enters the 1980 Olympics as underdogs and emerges as heroes. Their iconic upset unfolds with new footage and firsthand reflections. This is a brand new doc exploring this iconic moment in sports / hockey / Olympics history and how they pulled off this impossible victory against the Russians in 1980. This doc also brings back ALL of the original players for interviews now (46 years later) to talk about the experience and rewatch footage and chat. Having watched Miracle so many times I'm already intensely familiar with this particularr story, but this looks like a nice complement to the movie – and an inspiring look back at this incredible achievement of teamwork and ice hockey talent. // Continue Reading ›

Sundance 2026: 'Ha-Chan, Shake Your Booty!' is a Dancing Delight
There's really no better way to bring more joy to life than dancing. No matter what, letting loose and moving your body always leads brings back the happiness and sends depression down the tubes. Here we have a film that understands this, embraces this, and dives fully into the idea that dancing can be healing. And boy am I glad that the 2026 Sundance Film Festival decided to premiere this because Sundance films with dancing in them are always my faves. Amid so many other films about anguish & death & overcoming loss, Ha-Chan, Shake Your Booty! is finally something unique and new and fresh within the overloaded grief subgenre. It's bright and colorful and spunky and lewd and fun, and defies the usual "grief sucks and it will ruin you" tropes for something that is sad but still enjoyable as we watch Haru work her way back out of the depths of the darkness. And surprise, surprise – I loved this! Even with a few flaws, even with some pacing issues, it's still a delight and I emerged from the screening full of joy, read to tell the world about how worthwhile it is. // Continue Reading ›

Sundance 2026: Olivia Wilde's New Film 'The Invite' is Honest & Funny
This is what happens when you invite your neighbors over and they reveal their secrets. Then you have to figure out how to respond and how it makes you feel. You can either laugh, or freak out, or get angry, or just shrug it off (good luck with that). But no matter what, you'll never forget this encounter. That's pretty much what happens in this fun new sex comedy film called The Invite – directed by actress Olivia Wilde as her third feature film she's made so far. This new movie is a US remake of the Spanish film titled The People Upstairs (or Sentimental) written and directed by Cesc Gay. The short synopsis for that one sums up both films perfectly: two couples explore the complexities of modern day relationships. Wilde's film is set in San Francisco and stars Seth Rogen & Olivia Wilde as a couple who experience one heck of an eye-opening evening when their upstairs neighbors come down for the evening and they end up chatting about life and romance and relationships and sex. Sundance 2026: Lubna Azabal Shines in 'Hot Water' Road Trip Movie
On the road again! Heading across the dusty plains of the United States, stopping at cowboy diners, talking about life & all its woes. It ain't the Sundance Film Festival without a charming road trip film in the line-up. There's always one (or two or three) every year at this iconic Americana festival – and for good reason, they're usually some if the most enchnating and feel-good films in the selection. Sundance 2026's stand out road trip film is titled Hot Water, a reference to a quote mentioned in the film about how time spent in hot water is not wasted time. Because we all need to take a break and relax in hot water from time to time. Along the journey across the US this mother & son duo stop at a few hot springs that an acquaintance brings them to at one point in the story. Hot Water is also a film about the immigrant experience in the US, but unlike so many other films about immigrants, it's less of a tale about their struggles with being an immigrant and just another story about a family trying to reconnect and figure out just where they're going at this point in life. // Continue Reading ›

Sundance 2026: 'The Last First: Winter K2' Mountain Climbing Doc
Everyone in the mountain climbing community is intensely aware of the ominous danger of the mountain known as K2. Located in Pakistan, K2 is the second highest mountain in the world just after Mount Everest nearby in Nepal. It's also known as the deadliest mountain in the world. From acclaimed doc director Amir Bar-Lev, The Last First: Winter K2 is a brand new mountain climbing documentary film premiering at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. It tells the story of the tragic 2020-2021 K2 climbing season, specifically about the events during the attempt to summit K2 in winter. It's an insane endeavor. Climbing K2 during the calmer summer season is already dangerous enough, attempting in the winter is basically a death trap. Despite the risks, there are climbers who just had to try anyway, because it was the final no-one-had-done-it-yet victory left in the world of mountain climbing. Hence the "last first" mountain climbing achievement to pursue. But this pursuit left many people frozen to death. This documentary is ultimately about how the egos and obsessions within the mountain climbing community are ruining everything about the experience. // Continue Reading ›

Forced out of isolation, he must confront his dangerous past while protecting her, sending them on a tense journey of survival and redemption all the way down to London. Dustin Hoffman & Leo Woodall in 'Tuner' Clever Heist Thriller Trailer
"Open the safe!" Black Bear has revealed the first trailer for the acclaimed indie movie Tuner, directed by documentary filmmaker Daniel Roher as his first narrative feature film (after Navalny, Blink, and others). This first premiered at the 2025 Telluride, Toronto, London Film Festivals last fall - and it's playing next at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival beginning this week. Hence why this trailer is out now, even though the film isn't set to open in theaters until May. In Tuner, Leo Woodall stars as a gifted young piano tuner whose heightened sense of hearing draws the attention of criminals, who see his talents as useful for opening safes as for tuning Steinways. A talented piano tuner's meticulous skills for tuning pianos lead him to discover an unexpected aptitude for cracking safes, turning his life upside down. Blending romance, drama, and the taut suspense of a heist thriller, Tuner stars Dustin Hoffman, Havana Rose Liu, Tovah Feldshuh, Jean Reno, Lior Raz, in addition to Woodall. This looks like a slick, entertaining, upbeat thriller with a great cast. Definitely something that everyone might be into – a good crowd-pleaser. This trailer is worth a watch. // Continue Reading ›

Trailer for Real Time F1 Race '2DIE4' IMAX Doc Following Felipe Nasr
"I have to get back to the wheel again... I know my life's on the line." IMAX & Abramorama has unveiled an official trailer for the incredible racing documentary called 2DIE4 ("To Die For"), another intense Formula 1 racing movie to watch this year after the thrilling F1 movie last year. Seven years in the making, 2DIE4is a first-of-its-kind racing film that redefines the genre through radical technical innovation and immersive, first-person storytelling. This is a new film shot during the 24-Hours of Le Mans, at race speed, with no reenactments. The doc follows the acclaimed Brazilian driver Felipe Nasr as he prepares for and competes in this 24 hour race. "We didn't want to make a film about racing—we wanted to put audiences inside the race itself. Every creative decision was driven by one question: how do we make people feel what it's like to be Felipe Nasr at 200 miles per hour? I think we've created something that's never been seen before on an IMAX screen, and we can't wait for audiences to experience it." Yep actually this does look totally awesome. Definitely something to experience on the big screen if you have the chance. Will be jaw-dropping in IMAX. // Continue Reading ›

One More IMAX Trailer for Mamoru Hosoda's 'Scarlet' Anime Movie
"Awe-inspiring. Transcends time and space." Sony Pictures debuted an extra IMAX trailer for the new film Scarlet from director Mamoru Hosoda (of the films The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, Wolf Children, The Boy and the Beast, Mirai, Belle). This anime initially premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival last year and first opened in US theaters in December. It's now getting a special IMAX re-release this February. Hosoda's Scarlet follows the story of a brave princess who transcends time and space. Also known as Scarlet Without Limits or Endless Scarlet in Japan, is an isekai-adjacent tale about a princess named Scarlet, voiced by Mana Ashida (from Children of the Sea). After her father, the king, is murdered, she leaps across space & time to get revenge. But finds herself in the "Land of the Dead", where those who fail to fulfill quests for vengeance risk disappearing into nothingness. On her quest, she meets a modern-day Japanese man named Hijiri (voiced by Masaki Okada) – it's a whole new spin on Hamlet. If you missed this on the big screen in December, then here is one more thrilling chance to watch this on an IMAX screen. // Continue Reading ›

The Story of Astronaut Eileen Collins - 'Spacewoman' Doc Film Trailer
"There was no way I was going to quit that mission." 🚀 Haviland Digital has revealed the official trailer for a documentary film titled Spacewoman, ready for launch into theaters this March. The film premiered at the 2025 DOC NYC Film Festival, and also stopped by last year's CPH:DOX, now arriving home in the US for everyone to watch. Astronaut Eileen Collins was the first woman to pilot and command an American spacecraft. Born on the other side of the tracks in upstate New York, she smashed many glass ceilings in the US Air Force & NASA in her career, culminating in four increasingly dramatic and dangerous space shuttle missions. The film features Col. Eileen Collins, Bridget Youngs, Pat Youngs, Luke Youngs, Charlie Camarda, Cady Coleman, Dr. Mike Foale, Wayne Hale, Paul Hill, Marcia Dunn. "It was really extraordinary to have been a woman breaking through into this world at that time. Since NASA now plans to send a crew to the moon again that will, this time, include women, it made sense to look back at the story of this woman who trail-blazed for other women to follow." An inspiring story to tell! A must see doc for space geeks of all ages. // Continue Reading ›

Tied Up Like a Dog in 'Heel' Trailer with Anson Boon & Stephen Graham
"Life's sick sometimes. It's your only chance to get out of your head." Magnolia Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for a crazy weird movie called Heel, about a family that takes in a troubled boy & chains him up like a dog. Heel premiered at TIFF last year under the title Good Boy, and it also played at the London Film Festival right after, but not at many other fests aside from those. It's ready to hit US theaters in March. A 19-year-old criminal, Tommy, is kidnapped and forced into a rehabilitation process by a dysfunctional couple, Chris and Kathryn, who try to make him a "good boy." Tommy must find a way to escape at any cost. The obviously reminds me of A Clockwork Orange, also about a hooligan who gets rehabilitated, but this has a few different twists and turns in it. Anson Boon stars as the "good boy", along with Stephen Graham, Andrea Riseborough, Kit Rakusen, & Savannah Steyn. Another new film by the acclaimed Polish director of Corpus Christi and last year's Anniversary. This looks totally wacky and committed to the bit enough to actually work – though I think it's pretty obvious what's going to happen with him. Get a look. // Continue Reading ›

Watch: Finn Wolfhard in 'Harry Potter' x 'Heated Rivalry' SNL Trailer
"Hermione – what's the spell to make something bigger?" This hilarious sketch from last night's Saturday Night Live is a must see for movie geeks. The SNL wizards created this funny Harry Potter meets Heated Rivalry crossover called Heated Wizardy, turning Harry into a homo for a spin on the gay hockey series (on HBO Max). The sketch plays out like a new movie trailer for the Heated Wizardy movie - starring host Finn Wolfhard as Harry Potter and Ben Marshall as Ron Weasley. They compete in quidditch but also compete for each other's hearts and hard-ons, with a bevy of hilarious gags & gay innuendo borrowed from the Heated Rivalry series. It's quite exciting to see SNL go this bold with this sketch, which will certainly ruffle some feathers but who cares. There are also a few cameos in this trailer, including Jason Momoa as a beloved character. It's filled with so many amusing jokes – one of the best SNL creations this season. Fun Trailer for 'Tyler Perry's Joe's College Road Trip' Netflix Comedy
"I'm not gonna make it through this!" Netflix has revealed the official trailer for the next wacky fun Tyler Perry comedy movie based on his Madea characters – back for more mayhem.
