Tribeca Films has revealed the official trailer for an indie comedy titled Stealing Pulp Fiction, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Danny Turkiewicz. "Excuse me lady, have you seen my sock?" What strange creation is this? And where is that sock? A peculiar animated short film titled The Bleacher has arrived online. Starring the voices of Kate Micucci, Ben Sinclair, & Sky Elobar. It's best to not try to describe anything else about this, you just have to experience it yourself. And make sense of it on your own. Cannes 2025: Magnificent Chilean Musical 'The Wave' is Empowering
The Cannes Film Festival is once again featuring a never-seen-before musical that will shock and surprise and dazzle audiences. Last year, Jacques Audiard's ambitious (and eventually controversial) musical Emilia Perez premiered at Cannes. This year, Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Lelio's new film The Wave premiered at Cannes – though not in the Main Competition. The Wave (originally called La Ola in Spanish) is another massively ambitious, audacious, vivid modern musical daring to sing & dance to songs about uncomfortable topics and challenging conversations. Lelio's The Wave is inspired by the 2018 feminist protests at major universities in Chile that year, which were part of the global #MeToo movement (just before the pandemic arrived). It's a story about one young woman named Julia, though it's also a story about all women and how misogyny still rules in this patriarchal society. It's an empowering movie about women standing up, fighting back, and never giving up until there is change. A magnificent creation! This shook me up & left me in awe. // Continue Reading ›

Cannes 2025: An Inspiring Story of Friends in 'Homebound' from India
The prestigious Cannes Film Festival is a fest full of discoveries of all kinds, from all different places. Stories that move us and wake us up to the world are presented in every section. It's also my duty to highlight films that deserve extra attention, that stand out amongst the crowd as riveting works of cinema that connect with audiences. Especially films like this one that have an ability to reach anyone anywhere, with a heartbreaking universal story about friendship in a broken society. Iconic Making Of Doc Film 'Hearts of Darkness' 4K Restoration Trailer
"It's scary to watch someone you love confront failure..." Studiocanal has revealed an official trailer for the 4K restoration re-release of Hearts of Darkness, an iconic cinema documentary film about the making of a masterpiece. Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse originally premiere at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival and set a high bar for making of docs. It is a remarkably honest chronicle of the endless production problems — including bad weather, actors' health & complaints, war near the filming locations, and so much more — which plagued the filming of Apocalypse Now, increasing costs and nearly destroying the life and career of Francis Ford Coppola. Newly restored in stunning 4K with artwork from acclaimed artist Akiko Stehrenberger (seen below). Filmed and narrated by Eleanor Coppola documenting the production of the 1979 epic Apocalypse Now – plagued by extraordinary script, shooting, budget, and casting problems. Cannes 2025 Awards: Iranian Filmmaker Jafar Panahi Wins Palme d'Or
Winners of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival awards, including the coveted Palme d'Or, were revealed at a glamorous ceremony in Cannes, France this weekend. The awards this year were surprising and unexpected, with many films from across the board picking up prizes from a rather lackluster competition selection. The top prize Palme d'Or went to Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi and his latest film titled It Was Just an Accident (aka Un Simple Accident or A Simple Accident). This is a huge win for Panahi, who escaped from Iran recently after being unjustly imprisoned there for making his films. He originally won the Camera d'Or at Cannes (for a first-time filmmaker) back in 1995 for The White Balloon - this Palme has been a long time coming. The other excellent film everyone loved and was rooting for was Sentimental Value, Norwegian director Joachim Trier's wonderful new feature about an actress reconnecting with his father. This was my Palme pick as the best film of the festival this year, but it only took home Grand Prix. Another favorite Sirat won the Jury Prize (in third place) tied with German filmmaker Mascha Schilinski and her film Sound of Falling. Starring Henry Golding and Beatrice Grannò, along with Aura Garrido, Rubén Ochandiano, and Nathalie Poza. As his lucid dreams bring Daniela back to him, Nicolas becomes obsessed with the fantasy world that he's created and finds that his dreams aren’t as perfect as they seem. Li learns a new way to fight from Sensei LaRusso, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown. Kick his ass, Li! Starring Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio returning from the other movies, introducing Ben Wang as Li Fong, also starring Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen. This behind-the-scenes video focuses on this new movie's connection with the original 1984 Karate Kid, starring Pat Morita (RIP) as the original sensei Mr. Miyagi. It's a nice reminder of how meaningful and spiritual this entire series is. And how we must use fighting for good, not to beat people up. // Continue Reading ›

Cannes 2025: 'The Love That Remains' is a Perfect Break-Up Movie
"Af góðu upphafi vonast góður endir." "A good beginning makes a good ending." –An Icelandic proverb. Icelandic filmmaker Hlynur Pálmason was quickly become one of my favorite filmmakers working today. Ever since falling hard for Godland as one of the best films of 2022 (my review), I've enjoyed rediscovering his previous films and anticipating his new work. His latest feature film is titled The Love That Remains, premiering at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in the Cannes Premiere section. Much like with Godland, I believe that both of these films deserved to instead be screening in the prestigious Main Competition at the festival. One day he'll win the Palme d'Or, I am certain of this. Pálmason is an extraordinary filmmaker who not only has an exceptional eye for perfectly framing and capturing dramatic scenes on Iceland, but also a master storyteller. His sense of visual storytelling is distinct, and refined, and he allows the cinematography to tell the story instead of just having his characters talk about whatever is happening. I fell in love with The Love That Remains just as much as Godland, even though this is a story about two people falling out of love. // Continue Reading ›

Cannes 2025: Joachim Trier's 'Sentimental Value' Cinema on Cinema
Ahhhh yes the great majesty of beautiful, beautiful cinema. There's nothing like that high of walking out of the theater having just seen a masterpiece. My tweet about dancing around the streets of Sundance after emerging from Call Me By Your Name in 2017 became part of cinema history after Luca Guadagnino talked about how it brought him so much joy that evening. This is the same feeling I have after emerging from the film Sentimental Value at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. One of the handful of final premieres at the end of the festival, Sentimental Value is Norwegian director Joachim Trier's sixth feature film so far. His films have been playing at Cannes ever since 2011, with Oslo, August 31st (I distinctly remember watching this at the festival back then and not being a big fan). His films unquestionably belong here in Cannes and this one soars to new heights - it might just be his best film yet. As a major follow-up to 2021's The Worst Person in the World (my review), Sentimental Value is a story about a filmmaker who is planning a new film in Oslo while also trying to reconnect with his two daughters. Before watching it, I wasn't so sure that a film about filmmaking could be this good, but it's really an instant classic. An all-timer – blissful cinema about cinema. // Continue Reading ›

Cannes 2025: Animated Movie 'Little Amélie' is a Wonderful Delight
In the last few years, the Cannes Film Festival continues to discover amazing little animation films that hide within the line-up. I'm always glad to stumble across them and enjoy them and talk about them even when few others seem to be taking the time to watch any of them here. Little Amélie is 2025's most wonderful animation discovery – playing in the Special Screenings section at the festival this summer. Made in France, Little Amélie is absolutely sensational. It left me in awe – and it's only 75 minutes long. Japan's animation maestro Hayao Miyazaki would love this film. It's precisely the kind of heartfelt little story he enjoys telling - a mesmerizing, vibrant, magical story of a 3 year old girl exploring the world for the first time while living in Japan. Her experiences with nature and animals and her family and her Japanese caretaker and the world around her are perfectly visualized in a unique animation style. I need to rave about this one – it's a delight. // Continue Reading ›

Action Movie 'Off the Grid' Trailer with Josh Duhamel & Greg Kinnear
"I just want you to come home and finish what you started!" Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for Off the Grid, an action thriller made by stuntman filmmaker Johnny Martin. Yet another of these dime-a-dozen junk action films being dumped out this summer. Way too many of these recently. After a morally-bankrupt company tries to weaponize a brilliant scientist’s revolutionary technology, he goes off the grid to safeguard humanity. When the company sends a strike force to find him, they make their biggest mistake of all – they weaponize the man they are trying to catch. Huh? What the hell is this even about - does this give him special powers? Off the Grid stars Josh Duhamel, Greg Kinnear, Peter Stormare, and María Elisa Camargo. No idea how the hell they got these actors for this, because this looks absolutely terrible. But that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Avoid at all costs! Don't waste any time or money on this movie. // Continue Reading ›

Cannes 2025: June Squibb is Perfect in Johansson's 'Eleanor the Great'
Over these last few years in cinema, many famous actors have decided to try their hand at directing. Let's be honest – not that many are good at it, as it is an entirely different skill set and requires more creativity and leadership in addition to storytelling competence. Directing is an art. However, every once in a while we do get to discover that an actor is just as wonderful at filmmaking as they are at performing. I am very happy to report that Scarlett Johansson joins the small list of terrific actors who are also terrific directors. Her brand new feature directorial debut is a charming little original film titled Eleanor the Great, premiering in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival (right alongside directorial debuts from fellow actors Harris Dickinson and Kristen Stewart as well). The movie stars the absolutely amazing, adored 94-year-old actress June Squibb, her second lead role following her outstanding performance in Thelma last year (which premiered at Sundance 2024 and was one of my favorites at that festival). After losing her best friend of 50+ years, she moves back to New York with her family and rediscovers life anew in the city. // Continue Reading ›

Cannes 2025: Spike Lee's 'Highest 2 Lowest' is Barely a Real Movie
I can hear Akira Kurosawa rolling over in his grave all the way over in Japan. What happened here... Has Spike Lee given up on directing anything good? Does he even care anymore? His new movie is terrible – it's cringe trash. Highest 2 Lowest is the new Spike Lee Joint that just premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. During the initial announcement of the Cannes 2025 line-up, there was a rumor that Spike Lee was arguing with the festival about not putting this film in the Main Competition (where Do the Right Thing and BlacKkKlansman have premiered before). Now that I've had a chance to watch it, I don't think it should be at this festival at all. They should've rejected it outright. This movie is rubbish. It belongs in the dumpster. I'm shocked by how atrociously bad it is (and yes, I've quite enjoyed his recent films including Da 5 Bloods & BlacKkKlansman). At best it's a Saturday Night TV movie – not meant for the big screen in any way. At worst the studio should scrap it to save face with Kurosawa and save themselves from tarnishing his legacy. // Continue Reading ›

Arnold is Back For More Missions in 'FUBAR' Action Series - Season 2
"He told you he'd be back." And this time he's brought a friend. Netflix has launched the official trailer for Season 2 of the popular action comedy series called FUBAR. The original season premiered on Netflix back in 2023, featuring Arnold as a former CIA operative who comes out of retirement. The funny thing about this is while they literally did make a True Lies series, FUBAR is actually what a real True Lies continuation should be, and it became more successful because of that. Everyone loves this show instead! And so they're ready with more now. Just in time for Father's Day, FUBAR Season 2 returns to Netflix streaming on June 12th. "Season 2 is bananas... It is bigger, it is better. There are more laughs... More of everything... including one more legend." Carrie-Anne Moss joins the cast as an East Germany spy from Luke's past. It also stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Monica Barbaro, Milan Carter, Fortune Feimster, Travis Van Winkle, Fabiana Udenio, Aparna Brielle, Andy Buckley, with Jay Baruchel, Barbara Eve Harris, as well as Scott Thompson. This looks seductive and cheesy and funny - just what the doctor ordered. Have fun. // Continue Reading ›

Awesome Trailer #2 for 'Jurassic World: Rebirth' Packed with Dinos
"The most dangerous mission." Time to return to world of dinosaurs. Universal has debuted an incredible second trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth, to go along with the first trailer from earlier this year (and this making of featurette). This opens in theaters worldwide in July just in time for July 4th. It's going to be a massive hit! A standalone sequel to Jurassic World Dominion (2022) with its own new mission, it is the 4th installment in the current Jurassic World series and the 7th overall. Directed by Gareth Edwards - a new expedition braves isolated equatorial regions to extract DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures for a groundbreaking medical breakthrough. But this place is even more dangerous than anything – hungry, angry dinosaurs galore all over this island. JW: Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, with Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Ed Skrein. This is an awesome new trailer packed with dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes, tons of new ones we haven't seen in any of the movies before (plus this weird genetically modified one which looks so gnarly). There are big scenes shown in this – if you want to go in fresh this July, just skip it. I'm going opening night. // Continue Reading ›

First Trailer for 'IT: Welcome to Derry' Spin-Off Horror Series on HBO
"Go back to where IT all began..." HBO Max has unveiled the teaser trailer for IT: Welcome to Derry, a new horror spin-off series based on the two IT movies from 2017 & 2019. This has been in development for years, finally ready for release later in 2025. Set for the fall sometime - HBO hasn't confirmed a final release date yet, only saying that Max will change back to HBO Max in the summer, then this will release on HBO Max in autumn. This prequel series about Pennywise the Clown is set in the 1960s, leading up to the events of the first movie. The director of the movies, Andy Muschietti, developed this series with his sister, Barbara Muschietti. IT: Welcome to Derry features Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and Bill Skarsgård returning as Pennywise. This is more of a teaser with only a few glimpses of footage, and one shot of Pennywise at the end, even though we've already seen him plenty in the two horror films before. Another Badass Trailer for Animated 'Predator: Killer of Killers' Movie
"There's only one way to kill it... we must fight together!" 20th Century has unveiled a second trailer for the animated movie Predator: Killer of Killers, an anthology feature made by filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg. The first of two new Predator movies made by Trachtenberg following Prey from 2022 (which I still think should've been released in theaters). Predator: Killer of Killers is an animated anthology feature containing three stories that will be released streaming on Hulu in June this summer. His next live-action feature is called Predator: Badlands, and it's currently set to hit theaters on November 7th this fall. It looks like it will kick ass as much as this, too. The hunt begins. Three legendary warriors – a Viking mother seeking vengeance, a ninja fighting his samurai brother, and a WWII pilot facing cosmic horrors – become prey to an unstoppable hunter of killers. "Most characters are dealing with generational [issues], trying to break a cycle. All the chapters are different genre-wise," Dan explains. The voice cast features Lindsay LaVanchy, Louis Ozawa, Rick Gonzalez, and Michael Biehn. The other trailer was already awesome, this is even better. Amusing Trailer for 'Lulu is a Rhinoceros' Animated Series Adaptation
"I am brave, kind, and I love who I am!" Apple TV+ has revealed a very fun trailer for an animated musical series called Lulu is a Rhinoceros, from Jason & Allison Flom. Yep it's based on the beloved children's book of the same name also written by Jason & Allison Flom, who have turned this joyful story into a full-on musical. Sure it's meant for kids, but it also looks super fun and wholesome and entertaining, a lot like the iconic "Bluey" series on D+. Lulu (a cute little bulldog) is a rhinoceros – that's who she sees when she looks in the mirror. On a quest to spread kindness, this family musical follows fun-loving Lulu as she embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, powered by new friends, courage, and many catchy songs. Featuring the voices of Auli'i Cravalho as Lulu, Alex Newell, Dulé Hill, Paul Rust, & Utkarsh Ambudkar. With original songs by Golden Globe nominee Leland and lyrics written by Allison Flom. Cannes 2025: Linklater's 'Nouvelle Vague' is a Zany Tribute to Godard
Linklater you mad genius! The Austin, TX-based filmmaker is back at a second film festival this year with his other movie in 2025. Richard Linklater's Blue Moon premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival earlier in the year, and his next film Nouvelle Vague just premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Nouvelle Vague is Linklater's very first film shot entirely in French - because it's a spunky tribute to the iconic French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, who passed away in 2022 at 91 years old. Nouvelle Vague, which translates simply to New Wave in English, is about the French New Wave of the 1960s. Specifically about the making of Godard's first full-length film titled Breathless (or À bout de souffle in French). While making it they had no idea if it would be any good, but the film went on to debut at the 1960 Cannes Film Festival and then influence cinema forever as the defining French New Wave film at the time. This is Linklater's meta tribute to Breathless by recreating the making of Godard's film with the exact same artsy B&W style as the original. // Continue Reading ›

Cannes 2025: Christian Petzold's Latest Film 'Miroirs No. 3' is a Balm
In this angry world we live in today, with so many troubles and so much death and so much worry all around us, sometimes we need some peace and calm instead of rage to help us heal. But it's not easy to provide this kind of peace when there is so much raging going on. Way too many films nowadays feel the need to address the problems with the world by simply showing us the problems and using cinema to express some kind of anger. As if just showing us what is wrong will help us solve what is wrong – it rarely ever does. However, we really do need a bit of peace and calm these days, some soothing quieter moments to allow us to take a breath and become whole again. Miroirs No. 3, which is also simply titled Mirrors No. 3 in English, is the 11th feature film made by prolific German filmmaker Christian Petzold (also the director of Barbara, Phoenix, Transit, Undine, Afire). And it's just delightful – one of my favorite Petzold films already. Not at all what I was expecting, and that's a good thing, because I'm glad to discover it's such a charming & healing work of cinema. For 86 minutes we can get a bit of relief in Petzold's journey out to the German countryside. // Continue Reading ›

Cannes 2025: Harris Dickinson's Film 'Urchin' is an Impressive Debut
Stuck sleeping on the street, with no one to turn to for help, nowhere to go... How can you pull yourself back together in this situation? How does one get out of this rut? The next actor trying their hand at directing is the very talented British youngster Harris Dickinson (of Triangle of Sadness, The Iron Claw, Babygirl, Scrapper, Blitz). His feature directorial debut is a movie titled Urchin, premiering at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section. This film is also playing alongside Kristen Stewart's directorial debut titled The Chronology of Water – and between these two projects, it is Dickinson's film and choices and vision that really stand out. Both written & directed by Dickinson, Urchin follows the compelling story of a homeless man named Mike – a rough sleeper in London, trapped in a cycle of self-destruction as he attempts to turn his life around. Not only is the direction confident and the vision for this story clear, it's a damn good film featuring some clever creative choices. Cannes 2025: Lesbian Moms Film 'Love Letters' is Moving & Delightful
Our modern world is full of beautiful relationships & romances of all shapes, sizes, colors, connections. This is something we should be celebrating and appreciating – diversity is vitally important and invigorating and meaningful. Alas, there are still people who do not understand that humanity as evolved beyond the simple concept of relationships being between a man & woman. As a lover of cinema, I'm so grateful this art form can tell stories that stir the soul, and show us how beautiful the world really is when we respect and admire and appreciate other relationships. Love Letters is the latest film written & directed by French filmmaker Alice Douard – premiering in the Critics Week sidebar at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. It's undoubtedly one of the best films of the festival, one of my favorites and a film that I believe will connect with audiences all over the world after its initial unveiling in France. Love Letters is a lively, upbeat, emotionally honest, delightful, touching story about a lesbian couple expecting their first baby. "Céline, 32, is expecting her first child. But Céline is not pregnant... In 3 months, it is Nadia, her wife, who will give birth to their daughter." // Continue Reading ›

Teaser Trailer for Linklater's 'Nouvelle Vague' About Making 'Breathless'
"He films me with a camera hidden in a mail cart." ARP Sélection has unveiled the first teaser trailer for Richard Linklater's Nouvelle Vague, his next new feature film premiering this year. Earlier in 2025 at the Berlin Film Festival, Richard Linklater also premiered his first 2025 film titled Blue Moon with Ethan Hawke. After making Hit Man, he also went over to France and filmed Nouvelle Vague, a B&W film shot entirely in French about the making of Jean-Luc Godard's iconic 1960 movie Breathless – it's Linklater's very first film in French. And of course it's premiering at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival now – the premiere is tonight. This is the story of Godard making Breathless, told in the same style & spirit in which Godard made Breathless 65 years ago. In order to keep with the spirit of the French New Wave, the young French actors are all newcomers. For example, while he plays the key part of Jean-Luc Godard, it's the first feature film of Guillaume Marbeck. The cast also includes Zoey Deutch as Jean Seberg, Aubry Dullin as Jean-Paul Belmondo, Paolo Luka Noé, Alix Bénézech, and Jade Phan-Gia. Oh yes, this should be good fun. // Continue Reading ›

First Teaser for 'The Sound' Rock Climbing Supernatural Horror Film
"Making it to the top is not worth your life. It's just... not worth it." Blue Harbor Ent. has revealed a teaser trailer for an intriguing new horror film called The Sound, made by filmmaker Brendan Devane. Has there been a rock climbing horror movie before (not counting Cliffhanger which is action)? A group of climbers embarks on a dangerous climb that has been off-limits for years. What begins as an audacious expedition transforms into a battle for survival against a force that toys with them. During their ascent, they come face to face with a malevolent force that quickly turns their expedition into a harrowing battle for survival. This poster hints at the supernatural force hanging over the rock wall. And they even have some rock music, too. Actor William Fichtner is in the cast with Marc Hills, Jocelyn Hudon, David Clennon, Christina Kirkman, plus special guests Kyle Gass and real climber Alex Honnold. Cannes 2025: Óliver Laxe's 'Sirat' - A Techno-Filled Desert Odyssey
One of the most exciting discoveries from the 2025 Cannes Film Festival (so far) is a film titled Sirat, made by Spanish-French filmmaker Óliver Laxe. I've been posting trailers for it already leading up to the start of the festival, but it really is all about the experience watching this and discovering where it's taking us on its journey through the desert. Cinema reigns!! What an unforgettable experience watching this together with the packed-house of cinephiles at the press screening on Thursday night. Everyone came out of the screening raving about it, everyone has something to say about it - these are the kind of Cannes moments I live for. Sirat is awesome. This is what cinematic storytelling is all about. It's one giant metaphor, of course, but it also can be viewed as a literal trip through this desert hell. And the shock and awe of discovering what happens as you're watching it for the first time is essential to the experience of understanding the film. And, by extension, understanding life – the shock and awe of never knowing what's about to happen next in life. // Continue Reading ›

Cannes 2025: 'M:I - The Final Reckoning' is Flawed Yet Still Enjoyable
The grand finale. The end of it all. The sum of your life's choices. The last moment. The final reckoning with Ethan Hunt. This is it. After 30 years, across 8 movies, Tom Cruise (and director Chris McQuarrie) give us one last spectacular cinematic experience with Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. But is it really a spectacular cinematic experience? Well, that's up to everyone to decide for themselves. I was lucky to watch The Final Reckoning in IMAX - at an IMAX cinema located just nearby the Cannes Film Festival at the same time Tom Cruise was on the red carpet. This is, of course, the best way to watch it - our seats were rumbling, the footage was crisp & clear, it felt like a true chest-thumping spectacle. But of course if I'm honest - The Final Reckoning has some flaws. Quite a few flaws. But it is far from being the worst movie in the franchise and anyone saying this isn't really judging this movie accurately, they're criticizing it because they wanted something specific out of it. It is the second half of Dead Reckoning (2023) and it spends way too long explaining everything, but it is still an emotionally satisfying conclusion to this action franchise. // Continue Reading ›

This is the fourth Hollywood movie featuring the little blue guys created by Belgian artist Peyo, following The Smurfs (2011) and its sequels.
