Sundance 2025: Tonatiuh Shines Bright in 'Kiss of the Spider Woman'

Kiss of the Spider Woman Review
"Sooner or later, you're certain to meet, in the bedroom, the parlor or even the street... There's no place on earth, you're likely to miss her kiss." The moment this film ended I knew this performance was one of the best of the festival. But now that I'm finally writing this review after having seen a grand total of 54 films at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival line-up, I feel confident in saying - Tonatiuh gives the best performance in any film at the festival. This 2025 update on Kiss of the Spider Woman is a modern re-imaginging of this iconic story from South America, which was turned into a big Broadway musical in the early 1990s. It is the second film adaption of the 1976 novel Kiss of the Spider Woman by Manuel Puig, following the 1985 Brazilian film adaptation. Director Bill Condon, who's no stranger to big musicals having made Dreamgirls before, gives this story new life on the big screen and best of all gives us three ravishing performances to celebrate. I admit it's a strange film to premiere at a festival like Sundance which usually only shows indies and first-time features, but I'm very happy I had the chance to experience the premiere at this fest anyway. // Continue Reading ›

Mexican Action Movie 'Counterstrike' Trailer About Five Elite Soldiers

Plankton: The Movie Trailer
"I want each and every one of them torn to shreds!" Not if they take you out first. Netflix has revealed an official trailer for an intense action thriller movie called Counterstrike, made by the Mexican filmmaker Chava Cartas. This is set for a streaming debut on Netflix starting at the end of this month. When a hostage rescue mission creates a new enemy, Capt. Guerrero and his elite soldiers must face an ambush by a ruthless drug cartel. While there have been a few other movies titled Counterstrike before (like this one), this new movie reminds me of the popular video game Counter-Strike made by Valve. With a similar concept about a group of five elite soldiers (basically a group of players hanging out & working together on the same team?) outsmarting the dangerous cartel and taking out the bad guys. Starring Luis Alberti, Noé Hernández, Mayra Batalla, Leonardo Alonso, Pedro Joaquín, Guillermo Nava, and David Calderón León. This definitely is worth a look for anyone who's into action movies - might actually be an entertaining watch. // Continue Reading ›

Watch: Enchanting Animated Short 'The Lost Tower' Made in Blender

The Lost Tower Short Film
Time for beautiful quick journey to a whole other world. This animated short film titled The Lost Tower is a 2-min creation from Montreal-based animation filmmaker Florent Lebrun. It started as a small project and turned into this magnificent animated short. The film follows a pilot in a yellow bi-plane. "Flying over uncharted waters, a pilot searches for one of the Lost Towers." It reminds me of Porco Rosso of course, very similar vibes (also with Castle in the Sky), but still feels like something unique. I would love to watch more - it's this is just the intro. For anyone concerned that it's created with A.I., Lebrun puts those rumors and concerns to rest right away. He explains on his IG post: "Got some people wondering if it was AI... Sorry just good old Blender / Photoshop / compositing process." Amazing work! This is so evocative and immersive, allowing anyone to feel like they're ready to join this pilot on his mission to discover even more Lost Towers. // Continue Reading ›

Sundance 2025: 'Deaf President Now!' Doc is Remarkably Inspiring

Deaf President Now! Review
There are not many documentaries these days that end with real hope and optimism. Way too many of them are extremely depressing and sad, showing how bad things have become all over the world. I'm relieved that this outstanding doc at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival shares an fascinating story that is truly inspiring. Watching this film it makes me feel like we actually can achieve change. It is possible. As long as you never give up, as long as you stick to word, stay the course, never let anyone or anything dissuade you, and fight on until they finally back down. That's such a refreshing feeling in the face of so many other "look how awful things are" docs being made (from true crime to politics to societal problems and so on). Deaf President Now! recalls how the students at Gallaudet University in 1988 protested for one week until they finally elected the first Deaf president to run the university after 125 years of never having a Deaf president. It's an awesome, empowering, riveting story that most people don't know - and this doc does such a superb job of retelling it and confirming its importance as one of the greatest civil rights movements in America's history. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for 'When No One Sees Us' Spanish Holy Week Series

When No One Sees Us Trailer
"We think we're safe from everything... when no one sees us. In fact, that's when we're most vulnerable." Max has revealed an official trailer for a new Max Original Spanish-language series titled When No One Sees Us, ready for streaming in March. The series explores a series of crimes in the political and cultural frontier of so-called "deep Spain," also connected to one of the largest U.S. military bases abroad and its personnel, during the celebration of Holy Week in Morón de la Frontera (Seville). This was made entirely in Spain by a full Spanish production team, but is being launched as a US series in the next few months - and some of it is in English anyway. Because it involves this U.S. military base and shady people from there. Two women are united by an investigation that will unravel the darkest secrets. Set in Morón de la Frontera, follows Lucía Gutierrez, a sergeant in the Spanish Civil Guard who investigates weird incidents at the first Holy Week float processions as well as the inexplicable suicide of a neighbor. This stars Maribel Verdú and Mariela Garriga, with Austin Amelio, Ben Temple, and Dani Rovira. Yet another crime thriller, murder mystery series with a religious twist - for anyone who can't stop watching these shows. Have a look. // Continue Reading ›

Chilling New Teaser for 'The Rule of Jenny Pen' Starring John Lithgow

The Rule of Jenny Pen Trailer
"We all get what's coming to us in the end..." IFC Films has unveiled a new US teaser trailer for The Rule of Jenny Pen, a very creepy horror film from Kiwi filmmaker James Ashcroft. It's now set for a US release starting in early March in limited theaters, after premiering at Fantastic Fest & Sitges last year. Keep an eye out for it. Confined to a secluded rest home and trapped within his stroke-ridden body, a former Judge must stop an elderly psychopath who employs a child's puppet to abuse and terrorize the home's many residents with deadly consequences. The indie horror stars John Lithgow, Geoffrey Rush, and George Henare as the main three. The film is about an extra freaky old dude who torments others living there with a plastic doll he puts on his hand. One of the most unsettling horror stories I've seen recently - I raved in my review that "a new horror icon is born." And this quote made it onto the poster seen below! Glad they're giving this a proper indie theatrical release soon in theaters via IFC. Every horror fan needs to go see it when it's here. // Continue Reading ›

MEGAN 2.0 Teaser
"This b!*ch is back. Universal & Blumhouse have unveiled an official trailer for M3GAN 2.0, the exciting new horror sequel follow-up to the 2023 January horror hit M3gan. This is just a first look teaser - more of an announcement of the release date than a footage reveal. The murderous doll who captivated pop culture in 2023 is back. And this time she's not alone. The original creative team behind that phenomenon—led by horror titans James Wan for Atomic Monster, Jason Blum for Blumhouse, and director Gerard Johnstone—reboot an all-new wild chapter in A.I. mayhem with M3GAN 2.0. Goonies Reunion Promo for 'Love Hurts' w/ Ke Huy Quan & Sean Astin

Love Hurts Featurette
"The last time Sean and I shared any meaningful scenes together was 40 years ago on The Goonies." Yep! Universal has debuted an amusing 30-sec featurette for Love Hurts, an action comedy arriving in theaters in February coming up this week. "No matter how hard you try, you can't break up with your past." Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan stars as an unlikely hero, a seemingly mild-mannered realtor with a dark secret he is desperate to leave behind. Marvin is pulled back into that life when his former partner-in-crime resurfaces with a message. With his crime-lord brother also on his trail, Marvin must confront his past and the history he never fully buried. The cast includes Ariana DeBose, Daniel Wu, Sean Astin, Mustafa Shakir, Lio Tipton, Rhys Darby, Marshawn Lynch, & André Eriksen. This promo video shows Ke Huy Quan reuniting with actor Sean Astin on the set of Love Hurts (aka With Love). Ke played Data, Sean played Mikey, and Jeff Cohen played Chunk, and the three of them are seen in footage hanging out and catching up some 40 years after The Goonies (which opened in 1985). Rats! Trailer
"She thinks that you are in possession of nukes and are planning to blow up Texas." Wait, what!? Yellow Veil Pictures has revealed an official trailer for a wacky, weird, indie comedy film titled Rats! set in Fresno, Texas. This initially premiered at the 2023 Cucalorus Film Festival a few years ago, and played at more fests throughout 2024 including Fantasia and Seattle and Calgary Underground. In Fresno, Texas, graffiti artist Raphael's arrest leads to his involvement in a chain of surprising events involving a sting operation, suicide, drug deals, criminal suspicions, weapons, a newswoman, and a plutonium deal gone wrong, creating chaos. Reviews add even more superlatives: "Chock-full of gross-out humor, emo haircuts, and a female cop who loves the c-word, Rats! is a shockingly touching coming-of-age story." Rats! stars Danielle Evon Ploeger, Luke Wilcox, Darius Autry, Khali Sykes, Ariel Ash, Jacob Wysocki, and John Ennis. Looks like a crazy punk rock indie film from the 90s that they used to make. Sundance 2025 Awards: 'Seeds' & 'Atropia' Grand Jury Prize Winners

Sundance 2025 Awards
The official awards for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, held in Utah every January, were announced this morning with a small ceremony held in person in Utah. This always marks the end of the fest, with a few days of screenings left. The festival continued this week with at-home viewings in addition to all the in-person events. This year's line-up featured a grand total of 88 feature films, quite a few less than expected, with a number of indie gems in the selection. The main winners for 2025 include Atropia, taking home Grand Jury Prize; along with Brittany Shyne's Seeds winning the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary. The Audience Awards went to Twinless and (doc) Andre is an Idiot, entirely expected based on the effusive reactions to both. The winners this year are rather mild & unexciting, even though there are some amazing films at Sundance not many of them got any awards. As always, if any of these films interest you, we hope you note them down and catch up with them as soon as you can. All of the main 2025 winners listed below. // Continue Reading ›

The film initially premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival last year. This "all-consuming modern love story" opens at Quad Cinema in NYC in February and will be on VOD after in time for Valentine's Day. Sundance 2025: Powerful Palestinian Family Film 'All That's Left of You'

All That's Left of You Review
There are stories that need to be told. There are experiences that we need to understand. This is one of those films that tells a story that needs to be shown and taught and appreciated. All That's Left of You (اللي باقي منك) is an extraordinary, powerful new film made by the Palestinian-American filmmaker Cherien Dabis, her third feature film after making Amreeka and May in the Summer years before. All That's Left of You is a remarkable tale of a Palestinian family told across three generations as they deal with great trauma and grief under decades of oppression and occupation from Israelis. It's a miracle this film even got made, and exists, and is premiering at a film festival like Sundance (because the Berlin Film Festival would never show this even though it really should be playing over there, too). Dabis was just about to start filming in Palestine in October 2023 and had to move to other countries to continue production. I was there at the world premiere and it was very moving evening - especially listening to Cherien speak passionately before and after the film. // Continue Reading ›

A Gourmet Chef in Apocalypse - 'Cuisine de la 'Pocalypse' Film Trailer

Cuisine de la 'Pocalypse Trailer
"Staying alive matters and we're not going to do that with your fancy little mini-burritos." "It's called a taquito!" Mmmmmm I would like to try some. An official trailer has debuted for a super wacky, low budget indie comedy called Cuisine de la 'Pocalypse, from filmmaker Kyle Weingart. Set to debut in theaters during the next few months. 10 years after the world as we know it ends, one aspiring chef refuses to give up on his dreams and creates the apocalypse's first cooking show. For John, it will take more than the end of the world for him to give up on his dream of getting his cooking show "out there". John lives in the Gilligan Island-esc town of New Missoula. After he uploads his show to the town’s makeshift internet service, the apocalyptic town’s exact location becomes known to the world. The film stars Kevin Jack as John, Kevin Sorbo, Natasha Leggero, Emilio Rivera, Zuzu Weingart, & Braeden Sorbo. Another of these films you'd find in the back of a VHS store and laugh at because it is so dumb & goofy, but that's the whole point. // Continue Reading ›

First Look BTS Teaser for 'The Old Guard 2' with Charlize Theron Again

The Old Guard 2 Teaser
"It's a workout!" Netflix has unveiled a first look teaser for the upcoming action sequel The Old Guard 2, arriving sometime later in 2025 for streaming. This is a very short 40-sec promo featurette, with nothing but behind-the-scenes shots edited together and no other dialogue besides a few fun quips from Charlize Theron. Some of you may remember the first The Old Guard movie was released on Netflix back in 2020. Go behind the scenes of The Old Guard 2 and get a taste of the insane action coming your way this year — keep your eyes peeled for new faces and one shocking return. Huh. Sundance 2025: The Sublime 'Love, Brooklyn' Starring Andre Holland

Love, Brooklyn Review
There comes a point in everyone's life where they have to to learn to grow up a little, and move on from their past relationships. It's not easy, of course. There's always much to think about. But it's the right thing to do. Love, Brooklyn is a film about exactly this moment in the life of a man living in Brooklyn, New York. This delightful and humble film is the feature directorial debut of an impressive, up-and-coming indie filmmaker named Rachael Abigail Holder who's from New York (it's obvious from the way she captures Brooklyn on camera). After directing on many TV series previously, she is making her mark on the indie film scene by directing this lovely little feature - from a screenplay written by Paul Zimmerman. This is such a beautiful discovery, and I had such a warm & wonderful experience watching this at its world premiere at Sundance. I could feel the buzz and energy in the air, the audience was wrapped up in this story and moved by it as much as I was. That communal experience of falling in love with a film while sitting together is always so touching. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for 'Anuja' - Oscar Nominated Short Film Set in Delhi

Anuja Short Film Trailer
"What if I don't want to be a smart girl?" Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for an acclaimed short film titled Anuja, made by filmmaker Adam B. Graves. This 22-min short premiered at a number of festivals last year and ended up earning an Oscar nomination - it made the cut as one of the five nominated shorts in the Best Live-Action Short category this year at the 97th Academy Awards. Anuja follows a gifted nine-year-old orphan and her 17-year-old sister, Palak, as they work in a back-alley garment factory. When a teacher offers Anuja a chance to attend an elite boarding school and leave her old life, the sisters must navigate challenges that test their resilience and bond, culminating in a decision faced by countless young girls worldwide. A story of resilience, sisterhood, and hope. This stars Sajda Pathan as Anuja, Ananya Shanbhag as Palak, Nagesh Bhosle as Mr. Verma, and Gulshan Walia as Mr. Mishra. Not the best trailer, but I'm sure this is a good short anyway. At first glance I thought it was a documentary but it's a proper short made with actors. // Continue Reading ›

Josh Stewart Answers the Phone in 'Lifeline' Paranormal Thriller Trailer

Lifeline Trailer
"Can we push back this deadline that you've set?" Dark Sky Films has revealed an official trailer for indie thriller Lifeline, from director Feras Alfuqaha. Yet another hotline thriller focusing on a person answering a phone - this night he receives an odd, paranormal call. There have been a few of these recently - including The Guilty with Jake Gyllenhaal or Tessa Thompson's The Listener. In Lifeline, a suicide hotline operator gets a late-night call from someone who claims to be him, knowing private details only he would know, and threatening to end his life in an hour. The operator must race against time to stop "himself" from suicide. Josh Stewart stars as Steven Thomas, along with August Maturo, Charlene Amoia, Jocelyn Ayanna, Nicole Santiago, Jill Awbrey, & Brecken Merrill. This also reminds me of the film Frequency (2000) about a father and son connecting across time through the phone. Lifeline looks much better than it sounds. // Continue Reading ›

Michael Iskander vs Goliath in 'House of David' Series Official Trailer

House of David Trailer
"An outcast who became one of the most famous kings who ever lived..." You know his name. You know the legend. Now experience the journey – if you're ready. Prime Video has unveiled an official trailer for a new Biblical epic series called House of David, telling the iconic David vs. Goliath story (from the Book of Samuel) on screen. We all know this classic fable, which is used often today as a reference for an individual taking on a corporation or government, but this is actually going back to tell the original story from history. The once-mighty King Saul falls victim to his own pride, as an outcast shepherd boy, David is anointed as the second king. This depicts Goliath as an actual giant. Newcomer Michael Iskander, who they cast after months of searching (also seen in Kimberly Akimbo on Broadway), stars as David; along with Ali Suliman as King Saul, Ayelet Zurer as Queen Ahinoam, Stephen Lang as Samuel, Indy Lewis as Mychal, and Martyn Ford as Goliath. It remains religious propaganda, as it's co-directed by Jon Gunn of the religious films The Case for Christ and Ordinary Angels. Can one stone change the course of history? I guess it can. Although this looks like it's modernized in ways that will water down the grit of the original tale in the book. // Continue Reading ›

Sundance 2025: 'Rabbit Trap' is Intriguing, Mysterious Nature Horror

Rabbit Trap Review
A brand new British folk horror creation has revealed itself at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. Rabbit Trap is the feature directorial debut of up-and-coming British-Australian filmmaker Bryn Chainey, who both wrote and directed this film. Yet another extremely personal project based on his own worst fears and experiences, like many filmmakers trying to work through them by making a film about them. Rabbit Trap is set in 1976 and follows a young married couple who live out in the wilderness in rural England in a little cabin. While living out there alone, trying to make unique music and record natural sounds, they end up encountering some strange supernatural forces. This sends them into a tizzy as they attempt to make sense of what is going on – and it gets especially weird when a mysterious kid randomly shows up and works his/her way into their life. There are some intriguing ideas in this but it never amounts to much in the end, and the finale is rather lackluster. But I am enchanted by most of it anyway and I cannot write off the entire film. // Continue Reading ›

Official Trailer for Action Thriller Film 'Invasion' from the Netherlands

Invasion Trailer
"Mr. Prime Minister, something has to be done... we're going covert." Well Go USA has revealed an official trailer for an action movie called Invasion, also known as Invasie in Dutch. This is made by a filmmaker named Bobby Boermans from the Netherlands. It's a very jingostic film about the Dutch military trying to deal with an attack on one of its territories. Way too many films like this these days – almost if they're trying to condition people into thinking this is the only way to respond. When neighboring rogue country Veragua suddenly attacks Curaçao & Aruba, the Dutch government is taken totally by surprise. The conflict escalates rapidly. Three young Dutch Corps recruits must figure out what is the right thing to do. Will they be able to save the day? The action cast includes Tarikh Janssen, Gijs Blom, Ortál Vriend, Jasha Rudge, Fedja Van Huêt, Gijs Scholten Van Aschat, and Raymond Thiry. Every once in a while you come across a film that is so perfectly made to connect deeply with you and your soul, so wonderfully crafted that your emotions reach a boiling point the moment it starts, so exciting in its majesty that you can't help but fall instantly in love with it. Folktales is one of those film – for me, and hopefully for many others who take the time to watch it. Folktales is the latest documentary film from the incredible filmmaking duo Heidi Ewing & Rachel Grady, who have been to Sundance many times before with many great films including Jesus Camp, 12th & Delaware, Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You, One of Us, Dogs, and the narrative feature film I Carry You with Me. This time they travel up to Norway where they film teens spending a year at a rural folk school above the Arctic Circle. Here, various students learn skills like dog sledding and other solo survival skills which, even if they don't be come dog-sledders after, helps them learn to grow as people and develop themselves in unexpected ways. It's amazing to watch. // Continue Reading ›

Sundance 2025: 'Andre is an Idiot' is an Endearing Doc About Cancer

Andre is an Idiot Review
This film is the story of what happens when you don't get a colonoscopy. Yes that is actually the premise for this documentary film directed by Tony Benna, but it's also about much more than just that important PSA, of course. Andre is an Idiot is the one film at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival with the most unique title out of all the films in the line-up this year. And I'm glad it has this title because, if anything, this film will be useful (perhaps even life-saving) in seriously encouraging people to book a colonoscopy to check for colon cancer. Andre is an Idiot is about a kooky, one-of-a-kind creative individual named André Ricciardi. He was afraid of getting a colonoscopy and shrugged it off for years – until a doctor finally examined him and diagnosed him with stage 4 colon cancer. Unfortunately this film documents his dying after this diagnosis – it's a tragic story about cancer taking another life – but we're lucky we get to spend so much time with Andre and this film lets his humor and wit shine as he honestly discusses his situation, his feelings, and his family. // Continue Reading ›

Crazy Cool Trailer for 'Escape from the 21st Century' Sci-Fi Action Film

Escape from the 21st Century Trailer
"They are losers. But still want to save the world." Signature Ent. in the UK has unveiled the official UK trailer for the Chinese sci-fi action adventure indie time travel comedy thriller called Escape from the 21st Century. This opened in China last year and played at TIFF & Fantastic Fest & Sitges - critics have been calling it "incredibly fun and a blast of raw energy" similar to Scott Pilgrim vs the World. The story follows three friends who discover they have the power to travel back & forth 20 years with a sneeze. But the future is not as good as they hoped, and they need to take on the responsibility of saving the world. It's a po-dunk indie made on a small budget, with ambitious ideas and funky vibes. Starring Ruoyun Zhang, Elane Zhong, Yang Song, Xiaoling Wu, Yanmanzi Zhu. From a review: "The film is simply too entertaining to be denied, with great humor and spectacle, so you go along for the ride and find yourself having a much better time than if you dared quibble every time the plot sort of stumbled over itself." This is worth a watch. // Continue Reading ›

Sundance 2025: 'Jimpa' is a Heartfelt, Resonant Film About Openness

Jimpa Review
Kicking off the 2025 Sundance Film Festival with a winner already. I adore this film. I really connected with it, even if I'm not like anyone in it. Jimpa is the latest film written and directed by Australian filmmaker Sophie Hyde, best known for her previous films Good Luck To You, Leo Grande (at Sundance 2022) and Animals (at Sundance 2019). She's excellent at telling intimate queer cinema stories and she remains one of the best filmmakers in this realm. Her latest wholesome cinema creation is Jimpa – her most personal film yet, a semi-autobiographical and self-referential meta tale of a family. It just premiered at Sundance and the experience was emotional for me, especially because I am watching it without any idea of what I'm about to see, or how it will feel, or who the characters are. And I nearly fell in love with every last person in this film. In a time where LGBTQ rights are being challenged by bigoted idiots, a heartfelt, warm and tender film like this is what we really need. A reminder that openness and love and support does make the world go 'round. // Continue Reading ›

It's the four collaboration for the Ninaber Brothers - director Matthew Ninaber and star Jeremy Ninaber. Amanda Seyfried is Haunted by Opera in 'Seven Veils' Official Trailer

Seven Veils Trailer
"I've been asked to make this personal, so I am." XYZ Films has revealed an official trailer for Seven Veils, the latest feature from Egyptian-Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan (he made Guest of Honour before this). The film originally premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival a few years back but is only now getting a proper theatrical release - starting in March 2025 in a few months. An earnest theater director has the task of remounting her former mentor's most famous work, the opera Salome. Some disturbing memories from her past will allow her repressed trauma to color the present. Atom Egoyan directed the opera, Salome, in 1996, the first opera in what would be many to come over his career. Most recently, the acclaimed filmmaker was interested in exploring what the production of Salome would mean in our current culture. That led him to write the script for Seven Veils, about a remount of Salome that he filmed at the same time the opera was on stage, using the opera singers from Salome in the film. Amanda Seyfried stars as Jeanine, along with Rebecca Liddiard, Douglas Smith, Mark O'Brien, Vinessa Antoine, Ambur Braid, and Michael Kupfer-Radecky. This looks quite compelling - mostly to see Seyfried take on this complex, dynamic role. // Continue Reading ›

Sundance 2025 Most Anticipated
We're days away from another edition of the Sundance Film Festival up in the snowy mountains of Utah. The 2025 festival is about to kick off in a few days, and FS is back in Utah, ready to start watching. Ready to dive into the enthralling line-up of new films this year. This is our 19th time we have covered Sundance, ever since 2007, bringing attention to unique films and the festival experience. I am always looking forward to wading through all the fresh films the fest. Packing in as many as I can catch. Out of the 88 films showing at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, I've picked 10 films (well, it's 11 in total) that I'm looking forward to watching the most. To keep things well balanced, I've chosen 5 feature films and 5 documentaries from the line-up. For 2025, the fest has once again programmed an intriguing selection of unknown directors, first-time filmmakers, and potential indie hits that could become all-timer favorites. As usual with Sundance, you never can really tell what'll good or bad before watching anything, but here's my early picks from the diverse line-up anyway. I recommend adding these 11 films below to your festival schedule / or to your watchlist. // Continue Reading ›

'Eephus' Official Trailer - A Fantastic Baseball Movie Unlike Any Other

Eephus Trailer
"Can't quit this field, huh? Doesn't wanna stop playing..." Music Box Films has revealed an official trailer for Eephus, an indie baseball movie made by filmmaker Carson Lund as his feature directorial debut. It premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in the Directors' Fortnight section last year - and will be out to watch in March. This wonderful, one-of-a-kind story of old timers playing ball is unlike any baseball movie you've ever seen before. As an imminent construction project looms over their beloved baseball field, two New England recreational teams play ball for the last time. As day turns to night and innings bleed together, the players chat, laugh, and squabble as they face the uncertainty of a new era. Named for a rarely-deployed curveball, Eephus is both a ribald comedy for the baseball connoisseur and a movie for anyone who's ever lamented their community slipping away. Starring Keith William Richards, Cliff Blake, Ray Hryb, Stephen Radochia, David Pridemore, Pete Minkarah, David Torres Jr., Wayne Diamond, with Frederick Wiseman, and Bill "Spaceman" Lee. An ode to sports, community, and the passage of time. I'm a huge fan of this film, it's fantastic in so many ways (my review). A must see when it opens this March. // Continue Reading ›

My Fault: London Trailer
"Fights? And races? Any other bad boy cliches?" Meet another bad boy and his admirers. Prime Video has unveiled an official trailer for their sultry streaming movie called My Fault: London, ready for viewing in February on PV. This is actually an English language remake / London version of the Spanish series called Culpa Mía (which translates to My Fault) and also Culpa Tuya (which translates to Your Fault) from last year – based on the Culpables novel series by Mercedes Ron. Nick and Noah are about to take a trip that will change their lives forever. An 18-year-old girl moves from America to London with her mother and wealthy stepfather. When a masked killer slaughters several campers, a sheriff & deputy track a murderer to a local diner where, using their investigative skills, they must discover which person in the diner is the actual killer. "An engaging cocktail of slasher, thriller, and whodunnit with a superb cast... genre audiences will find something to love here." Indie Psychological Horror 'Mom' Trailer About Post-Natal Depression

"Am I a bad mother?" Uh oh. Dark Star Pictures has unveiled the official trailer for Mom, an indie horror film ready for release in February. Struggling with postnatal depression & feeling misunderstood by her husband, Meredith begins to experience terrifying visions foreshadowing an ultimate tragedy - ending up stuck in a nightmarish loop ruled by a malevolent force. Mom stars Emily Hampshire as Meredith, the titular "Mom" in this story, with François Arnaud, Christian Convery, Tristan D. Lalla, Cat Lemieux, and Erika Rosenbaum. Battle of Mogadishu Doc Series 'Surviving Black Hawk Down' Trailer

Surviving Black Hawk Down
"I was sure my family were dead." Netflix has unveiled a trailer for Surviving Black Hawk Down, a 3-episode docu series that will be streaming on Netflix starting in February. The doc is a "360-degree telling of the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu, whose events served as inspiration for Ridley Scott's Academy Award winning film Black Hawk Down." It has been 24 years since Black Hawk Down opened in theaters (back in 2001) and yet somehow now is apparently the right time to revisit it. I mean, it is a great action movie, but this all seems strange. Surviving Black Hawk Down tells the gripping real story of the horror and heroism behind the events – blending raw, immersive doc storytelling with first-person interviews from both sides of The Battle of Mogadishu. Makers RSA add "[we] are thrilled to bring this compelling story to a new audience with Netflix, almost 25 years after Ridley’s iconic movie. It's a gripping tale, and powerful and moving to hear from both US forces and Somalis for the first time." I'm glad they're sharing stories of both sides now. // Continue Reading ›
