Samuel Goldwyn Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie off-the-grid thriller titled Manifest West, from filmmaker duo Joe Dietsch & Louie Gibson. The film is intriguing coming-of-age story told through the eyes of a young girl whose family spirals out of control after they decide to live off the grid. It had its world premiere at the Mammoth Film Festival, where it won Best Genre Film, earlier this year. The film stars Annet Mahendru, Milo Gibson, Lexy Kolker, Michael Cudlitz, and the comedian Tim Heidecker (giving a very serious performance this time). This starts out so nice and uplifting, the story of a family trying to make a life on their own in the woods - reminds me of Captain Fantastic. But then things quickly get intense and twisted and dark, which isn't so nice and fun anymore. Don't look bad, doesn't look that great either. Check it out. ›››

It's one of the most intense and epic action films of 2022, with more kinetic energy than even Michael Bay's movies - seriously. Hunt is also the directorial debut of "Squid Game" star Lee Jung-jae, who also stars in the period espionage action movie. "Expose the mole within the agency! Can the 'Hunted' become the 'Hunter'?" Park Pyeong-Ho and Kim Jung-Do are agents for the National Security Agency. They are both excellent at their jobs and rivals. The two men chase after a North Korean spy sent to South Korea. They soon uncover a hidden truth about an assassination plot. The film stars Lee Jung-jae, Jung Woo-sung, Heo Sung-tae, Jeon Hye-jin, and Jeong Man-sik. This is literally wall-to-wall, non-stop intense action and shoot outs and fights and it just gets crazier as it goes on. So many people, so much shooting. Yusuf and his best friend Memo are pupils at a boarding school for Kurdish boys, secluded in the mountains of Eastern Anatolia. Set over the course of a tense day at an isolated boarding school, this moral drama follows a boy's desperate fight to save his sick friend in the face of a rigid bureaucracy. By the time the adults in charge finally understand the seriousness of Memo's condition and try to get him to a hospital, the remote school has been buried under a sudden, heavy snowfall. Starring Samet Yildiz as Yusuf and Nurullah Alaca as Memo. This looks like it has some impressive cinematography telling a heartbreaking, frustrating story about how hard it is to fight against incompetence and carelessness. Bite Size Halloween: Season 3 launches on October 1st available on Hulu, with a whopping twenty new shorts from exciting emerging filmmakers. We are huge fans of short films, always featuring the best ones to watch once they debut online. This series is a 20th Century Studios creation, as they're developing these shorts with hopes that a few can be turned into features (Grimcutty from John William Ross, Matriarch from Ben Steiner are out this month on Hulu). Shot in seven different countries, this new series of shorts takes on topical issues such as racism, gender, parenthood, sexuality, and identity. Blending genres like horror, comedy, sci-fi, thriller, and more. Some of these do look awesome! And some of them don't. If you have the time to spare, might as well watch these in October. Another Fun Japanese Trailer for Shinkai's 'Suzume no Tojimari' Film

"I'm afraid of a world where Souta doesn't exist!" Japan's Toho has revealed a second official trailer for Suzume no Tojimari, the latest from acclaimed animation filmmaker Makoto Shinkai (of Your Name and Weathering with You). We've featured two other Japanese trailers previously - the most recent one here during the summer. It's an action adventure road story about a girl named Suzume, starring Nanoka Hara as her voice. 17-year-old Suzume's journey begins in a quiet town in Kyushu when she encounters a young man who tells her, "I'm looking for a door." Soon, doors begin to open across Japan, bringing destruction upon any who are near them. Suzume must close these portals to prevent further disaster. This new anime adventure features character design by Masayoshi Tanaka, art direction by Takumi Tanji, animation by Kenichi Tsuchiya. It will be released under the title just Suzume internationally, from Crunchyroll / Sony Pictures / Wild Bunch. No release dates have been set - expected in the US sometime in 2023. Utilizing their makeshift weapons and horror movie knowledge, the aliens realize you don't mess with girls from Pang. Starring Tasiana Shirley, Alexis Vincent-Wolfe, Nalajoss Ellsworth, and Chelsea Prusky. It was co-written with Ryan Cavan with Nyla Innuksuk, making her feature screenwriting and directorial debut. "Your power crushed my life and my personality as well." Film Forum in NYC has revealed a trailer for the first narrative film from acclaimed doc filmmaker Frederick Wiseman. It's called A Couple, also known as just Un Couple in French, and it's not really a film - a 63 minute chamber piece. A Couple follows a long term relationship between a man and a woman. The man is Leo Tolstoy. The woman is his wife, Sophia. It's nothing more than an hour of a woman reading letters and dairies written by Sophia, his young wife, who he didn't seem to love. French actress Nathalie Boutefeu portrays Sophia as a "determined, loving, angry woman who recognizes the limitations of long-term marriage to a man of world-renown." Which is to say that she didn't really understand that she was married to someone who didn't really care about her. It premiered at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, where I ranked it as the worst film of the festival. Barley even a film. But that's just my opinion and others might enjoy this poetic film about love and longing. Take a look. ›››

This his first in 16 years since last making Little Children in 2006. Set in the international world of classical music, the film centers on Lydia Tár - as played by Cate Blanchett. She is widely considered one of the greatest living composer / conductors and she was also the first-ever female chief conductor of a major German orchestra. The character of Tár is fictional, perhaps inspired by a number of different real life conductors. The cast also includes Mark Strong, Nina Hoss, Noémie Merlant, Sophie Kauer, Julian Glover, Allan Corduner, Sylvia Flote. This premiered at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, where Blanchett won the Best Actress award. It was my favorite film at the fest and will be on my Top 10 this year - one of the best films of 2022. They also experienced a big increase in racism due to their Asian heritage, dealt with harassment by anti-vaxxers, and the various family members had different reactions to the rise of the BLM movement in their conservative town. The film unveils the complex dynamics within the family, especially between the different generations and each of their takes on all the political strife that we all experienced in 2020. Born to Kurdish parents in Iran, he was imprisoned in Iraq for being Kurdish. From the hell of that Iraqi prison, Giwar Hajabi came to Germany as a young boy with his family in the mid-1980s and fought through even more challenges to make a name for himself. The Story of Sinéad O'Connor - 'Nothing Compares' Doc Official Trailer

"Everybody in music has a story, in terms of what they went through." Showtime has released the official trailer for a documentary film titled Nothing Compares, which initially premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The film tells the story of Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O'Connor's rise to worldwide fame, and how her iconoclastic personality resulted in her exile from the pop mainstream. It's a shame, really, because she was "cancelled" for no good reason at all. Focusing on prophetic words and deeds across a six-year period (1987 to 1993), the film reflects on the legacy of this fearless trailblazer, through a contemporary feminist lens. Everyone knows the story of why she got in "trouble" for ripping up a photo of the Pope in 1992, but that's all bollocks, especially when you hear her story and everything that she has gone through. This doc was picked up numerous awards playing at various festivals throughout 2022 and will be streaming on Showtime to watch this week. Highly recommend this doc - it's thought-provoking and honest. ›››

As part of their Tudum special event, Netflix revealed a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio. We already posted the first trailer for this stunning stop-motion animated film during the summer, with the release still set for December on Netflix. GdT reinvents Carlo Collodi's classic tale of the wooden marionette who is magically brought to life in order to mend the heart of a grieving woodcarver named Geppetto. This musical story follows the mischievous & disobedient adventures of Pinocchio in his pursuit of a place in the world. Directed by del Toro & Mark Gustafson, the film features an all-star voice cast lead by Ewan McGregor as Cricket, David Bradley as Geppetto, and Gregory Mann as Pinocchio. This featurette shows us some of the process of animating and creating the characters, including various size models that Guillermo seems giddy to show off. "Where are you running from, stranger?" Sky TV has unveiled a first look teaser trailer for a new Django series, inspired by the original classic spaghetti western from Italy. This new series is created by the Italian filmmakers Leonardo Fasoli & Maddalena Ravagli for Sky and Canal+, though it's an English-language reimagining of the classic 1966 film - with Franco Nero - which was itself a retelling of Akira Kurosawa‘s Yojimbo. This one stars the award-winning Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts as Django, and changes the story around. In this Django, it follows the gunslinger around the Wild West searching for his daughter who he believes escaped the murder of his family eight years ago. The ensemble cast also includes Noomi Rapace, Nicholas Pinnock, Lisa Vicari, Jyuddah Jaymes, Eric Kole, Benny Opoku-Arthur, Tom Austen, and Abigail Thorn. "You're aware that psychopaths exist amongst us." Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for a documentary film titled Into the Deep, which is finally getting an official Netflix release at the end of this month after waiting for two years. It first premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival but hasn't shown up anywhere until now. The film offers a chilling inside look at the story of famous Danish inventor Peter Madsen, who brutally murdered a Swedish journalist while taking her onboard his homemade submarine back in 2017. It's one of the strangest stories because this guy kept changing his story, and trying different tricks with the police and journalists and everything. This doc began as an actual profile on Madsen and his rocket-building company, but everything changed after 2017 and director Emma Sullivan spent years putting together this version. It has been edited since the Sundance 2020 premiere, removing (and digitally altering) three people who no longer want to be in it. It's hard to watch a film about a man who will eventually murder someone, and it's also scary to see how people do reveal themselves and sometimes just say it before it even happens. ›››

Italian World War II Heist Comedy 'Robbing Mussolini' Netflix Trailer

"Someone told me nobody can outsmart history… F&!k history." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for an ambitious action comedy heist film from Italy titled Robbing Mussolini (in English), also known as Rapiniamo il Duce in Italian. At the end of WWII, a ragtag group of resistance fighters team up to steal Mussolini’s treasure from Milan's fascist headquarters. They try to steal back all the legendary treasure belonging to the one known as the "Duce of Fascism" - Benito Mussolini. "An ambitious heist movie, full of action and humor" skipping theaters entirely. It's premiering at the Rome Film Festival which doesn't seem that exciting. The film's cast includes Pietro Castellitto, Matilda De Angelis, Filippo Timi, Tommaso Ragno, Luigi Fedele, Eugenio di Fraia, and Isabella Ferrari. Official Trailer Iñárritu's 'Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths'

And here we go… Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for the highly anticipated, already controversial new film from Oscar-winning Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu titled Bardo. This premiered at the 2022 Venice Film Festival earlier this month to mixed reviews, and opens in theaters first for a month before landing on Netflix for streaming. The films follows a renowned Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker who returns home and works through an existential crisis as he grapples with his own identity, familial relationships, the folly of his memories. It's essentially an autobiographical film about Iñárritu's life and his many questions about everything - his connection to Mexico and his family and so much more. Shot on gorgeous 65mm by Academy Award-nominee Darius Khondji (Amour, Se7en). The film marks Iñárritu's first film to be shot in Mexico since 2000's international sensation Amores Perros. Bardo stars Daniel Giménez Cacho as "Silverio", with Griselda Siciliani, Ximena Lamadrid, and Iker Solano, plus a massive ensemble cast throughout. Lovely Trailer for Musical Romance 'A Chance Encounter' Set on Sicily

"Maybe you share the same feelings about me that I do about you?" Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie romantic drama titled A Chance Encounter, made by Alexander Jeffery. This will be out in theaters and on VOD at the end of October. In the coastal town of Taormina, Sicily an aspiring poet in search of inspiration meets a folk singer trying to write a follow up to her breakout hit. "Their instant chemistry sparks collaboration, leading to an unexpected, weeklong writer's retreat at a beautiful villa in the Sicilian countryside." It looks like a very lovely, heartfelt musical reminiscent of Before Sunrise meets Once - two of the best romance films ever made. Starring Andrea von Kampen and Paul Peterson. This looks fantastic!! I'm not sure how this skipped festivals and is getting a quiet release in the fall, because it seems absolutely adorable in so many different ways. Quirky RomCom Film 'Shellfish' Trailer About a Stop-Motion Animator

A stop motion animator has a week to make a film with his dumbstruck brother and the girl of his dreams without his parents finding out. As their hectic shoot unravels, he must decide which is more important, his filmmaking or close relationships. Winner of 35 various festival awards, Shellfish began with a $25K grant from Johnny Brenden, awarded by UNLV. After five years of collaboration with his talented friends, family, and students, Shellfish finally premiered in 2021. Starring Hunter Hopewell, Savanah Joeckel, Mackenzie Amar, Perry Bruno, Serenity Garcia, Michael Yosef, Shari Abdoulah and Michael Abdoulah.
