Watch: A British Pub Goes Mad in Horror Short Film 'Cursed Words'

Cursed Words Short Film

"For the protection of the audience." Don't speak the cursed words, and you may live through the night. Or just grab a pint, and enjoy as everyone else goes mad. Cursed Words is the latest horror short film made by the Staszkiewicz Bros, British filmmakers named Joe & Lloyd Stas. These are the same guys who made the fantastic Spooky Club horror short a few years ago. Set in a small British pub, all hell breaks loose when a man reads three words from a mysterious, bloodstained letter. This stars Ryan Lane, Olivia Newton, Michael Muyunda, Martin Valentine, Ben Galler, Helen Booden, Tom Stas, and Lilou Stas, with Chewie the dog. As violent & bloody as it is, this falls into the category of "fun" horror more than anything. ›››

Justin Long in Official Trailer for Indie 'After Class' AKA 'Safe Spaces'

After Class Trailer

"You got an army of people who love you at your back." Gravitas has debuted an official trailer for an indie film titled After Class, which initially premiered under the title Safe Spaces at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. It's getting the usual VOD release in December, if anyone is curious anyway. Justin Long plays an NYU professor who gets in trouble after trying to create "safe spaces" for his students. So he skips town and spends a week re-connecting with his family and an ill grandmother while attempting to defend his reputation. The cast includes Fran Drescher, Richard Schiff, Camrus Johnson, Kate Berlant, Becky Ann Baker, Tyler Wladis, Lynn Cohen, Samrat Chakrabarti, Dana Eskelson, and Michael Godere. Well this seems rather charming and uplifting in a warm way, it might actually be worth a watch. ›››

Watch: Horror Short 'Wandering Soul' Set in the Tunnels of Vietnam

Wandering Soul Horror Short Film

"Lay down your weapons. It is futile." Another creepy new horror short to feature this week just in time for Halloween. Wandering Soul is the latest short film made by filmmaker Josh Tanner, based in Australia, along with writer/producer Jade van der Lei. The same team that made the other very successful short films The Landing and The Rizzle and Reverse (from last year). Their new one is a Vietnam War set supernatural horror that is inspired by creepy, true events. Starring Lap Phan, Henry Vo, and Cuong Nguyen. Full US Trailer for Ken Loach's Work-Life Drama 'Sorry We Missed You'

Sorry We Missed You Trailer

"I never thought it would be this difficult." Zeitgeist Films has revealed another new official US trailer for Ken Loach's latest film Sorry We Missed You, which will be in US theaters starting in March of next year. This initially premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in competition earlier this summer, and it played at the Toronto, Zurich, Hamburg, and Busan Film Festivals. The indie drama is a follow-up to Loach's acclaimed Palme d'Or winning film I, Daniel Blake, with the same screenwriter. This time they tell a story of a British family struggling to get by - the father takes a job as a "zero-hour", "self-employed" delivery driver and feels the stress increase as he tries to make ends meet. The film stars Kris Hitchen, Debbie Honeywood, Rhys Stone, Katie Proctor, and Ross Brewster. This is a solid new trailer, capturing the essence of the film and how hard it is to keep things afloat these days in an ever-more-capitalistic society. I am amused by the fact that this has subtitles because Americans can't always understand the way British people talk. Aha. ›››

First Trailer for Gibney's Doc 'Citizen K' About Mikhail Khodorkovsky

Citizen K Doc Trailer

"What you don't control is a potential threat." Greenwich Entertainment has unveiled an official trailer for the new Alex Gibney documentary titled Citizen K, which first premiered at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year and it also played at TIFF. Citizen K is a reference to Mikhail Khodorkovsky, a Russian citizen who now lives in London after being put in jail as an outspoken opponent of Putin. He only got out because he's a billionaire. The film tells the complete story of the strange case of Khodorkovsky, once believed to be the wealthiest man in Russia, who rocketed to prosperity and prominence in the 1990s, served a decade in prison, and became an unlikely martyr for the anti-Putin movement. Expertly researched, Alex Gibney uses Khodorkovsky’s story as a way to explore the complex interplay between oligarchy and government and its destructive effect on democracy, in Russia and beyond. The film covers all of Russia's modern history and how it became the dangerous power it is now, and how Khodorkovsky fights back, even while living abroad. ›››

Chadwick Boseman Takes on New York in Final '21 Bridges' Trailer

21 Bridges Trailer

"They told me you were the guy who kills killers." STX Entertainment has debuted a third & final official trailer for the NYC action thriller 21 Bridges. We've seen two solid trailers previously, but the movie was delayed from a September release until late November. The title is a reference to the decision in the movie, during a citywide manhunt, to shut down and block off all 21 bridges that access Manhattan (and all the tunnels and trains). Chadwick Boseman stars as a disgraced detective seeking redemption who gets into the massive manhunt for a cop killer which leads him to discover a massive conspiracy that links his fellow cops to a criminal empire. The main cast includes Taylor Kitsch, Sienna Miller, J.K. Simmons, Keith David, Stephan James, Dale Pavinski, Gary Carr, Victoria Cartagena, and Toby Hemingway. So this looks it could be pretty good, or maybe not, only time will tell whether it's really worth a watch after all. ›››

Starring Kelvin Harrison, Jr., Lucas Hedges, Taylor Russell, Alexa Demie, along with Renée Elise Goldsberry and Sterling K. Brown. Featuring a new score from Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross. Duérmete Niño is an impressive new short film made by Mexican filmmaker Freddy Chavez Olmos, who has worked with Guillermo del Toro in the past on previous horror projects. Set in the 1940s, Duérmete Niño tells the story of Alma, played by Piercey Dalton, a religious mother of newborn twins who is constantly awakened by the disturbing sound of her crying babies. It's a bit different than other baby monitor horror shorts we've featured (like Monitor or Monitor) as it has a vintage vibe that really makes it stand out. Antlers Trailer

Nothing like the sound of silence. Fox Searchlight has debuted a full-length official trailer for the horror film Antlers, the latest from director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Out of the Furnace, Black Mass, Hostiles). This is a must watch trailer. In the film, a small-town Oregon teacher and her brother, the local sheriff, become entwined with a young student harboring a dangerous secret with frightening consequences. A huge freakin' monster! It's adapted from a short story called "The Quiet Boy" by Nick Antosca, which captured the attention of Guillermo del Toro because he is producing this dark fantasy horror. Cooper's Antlers stars Keri Russell, Jesse Plemons, JT Corbitt, Graham Greene, Scott Haze, Rory Cochrane, and Amy Madigan. It's a mesmerizing trailer that has no dialogue - only sound and music. And it's still scary as hell. ›››

Official Trailer for 'Return to Mount Kennedy' Mountain Climbing Doc

Return to Mount Kennedy Trailer

"The wild places have a way of bringing us back to who we are." 1091 Media has debuted an official trailer for a new documentary called Return to Mount Kennedy, an intriguing story about climbers scaling a mountain named after JFK. In 1965, Bobby Kennedy became the first human to stand atop a lonely peak in the Canadian Yukon (see on Google Maps) that had just been named to honor his assassinated brother, JFK. His climbing guide was Jim Whittaker, a mountain icon who at 28 had become the first American to summit Mt. Everest. Now 50 years later, the sons of the original climbing team decide to embark on an expedition to the mountain to celebrate the special bond that connects them all. I really dig the structure of this doc - the past and present intertwining. Looks fascinating and inspiring, a look back into the past while reminding us of the importance of the present. I love all the quotes and little moments they show in this trailer. Beautiful. ›››

Aaron Eckhart (who we haven't seen much recently) stars as a disgraced cop who goes rogue and finds himself in a race against time to find a kidnap victim whose abductor he accidentally killed. Also starring Courtney Eaton, Jessica Lu, Dina Meyer, with Ben McKenzie and Giancarlo Esposito. The more action movies they make, the more they start to all look the same, because they are all the same. Always about a cop or someone having to do something to rescue someone. Always. Isabela Merced & Shameik Moore in Trailer for X-Mas Film 'Let It Snow'

Let It Snow Trailer

"Christmas Eve bash - come one, come all! Boom!" Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for a holiday ensemble comedy titled Let It Snow, arriving in just a few weeks to watch streaming this holiday season. When a snowstorm hits a small midwestern town on Christmas Eve, a group of high school seniors find their friendships and their love lives colliding thanks to a stranded pop star, a stolen keg, a squad of competitive dancers, a mysterious woman covered in tin foil, and an epic party at the local Waffle Town. The film stars Isabela Merced, Shameik Moore, Kiernan Shipka, Odeya Rush, Jacob Batalon, Miles Robbins, Mitchell Hope, Liv Hewson, Anna Akana, and Joan Cusack. This looks like one of those charming, goofy, completely obvious, formulaic feel-good holiday flicks. Maybe it's what we all need right now? Enjoy. ›››

New US Trailer for 'Age Out', AKA 'Friday's Child', with Tye Sheridan

Age Out Trailer

"You play things kinda close to the chest, don't you?" Gravitas Ventures has debuted a brand new trailer for the indie drama Age Out, the new name for the film formerly known as Friday's Child. This premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last year, and we ran a trailer last year as well, but it's only now getting an official US release in the fall. Tye Sheridan stars as young drifter Richie, fresh out of foster care, trying to figure out what to do with himself. He ends up on the streets involved in petty crime and meets two other people: Joan, played by Imogen Poots, and Swim, played by Caleb Landry Jones. The film's cast also includes Jeffrey Wright and Brett Butler. This looks like a very artsy, intimate film with some intense shots by DP Jeff Bierman. It definitely has that Terrence Malick-esque feel, for better or worse. Check this out below. ›››

First Trailer for Scary Horror 'I See You' with Helen Hunt & Judah Lewis

I See You Trailer

"If you did something, you can tell me." Saban Films has released the first official trailer for an indie horror film titled I See You, from director Adam Randall (of iBoy previously). This first premiered at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year, then went on to play at Cleveland, Edinburgh, and Lisbon Horror Festival. Strange occurrences plague a small town detective and his family as he investigates the disappearance of a young boy. Starring Helen Hunt, Jon Tenney, Judah Lewis, Owen Teague, Libe Barer, Greg Alan Williams, Erika Alexander, and Allison King. I'm intrigued by this because it's not just a horror, but a "puzzle", where "nothing is exactly what it seems" as the trailer says. And that wooden mask is super creepy. ›››

Bruce Willis in Full Trailer for Hospital Survival Thriller 'Trauma Center'

Trauma Center Trailer

"Maddie! Don't make this harder than it already is!" Saban Films + Lionsgate have debuted the first official trailer for a low-grade action thriller titled Trauma Center, which is one of those vague and terrible titles for a film that doesn't setup anything. Alone and trapped in a locked-down hospital overnight, an injured woman must escape a pair of vicious killers who are after the only piece of evidence that can implicate them in a grisly murder - the bullet in her leg. Luckily, a veteran cop is assigned to protect her, and he becomes her protector as the night grows more dangerous. Bruce Willis stars as the cop, and Nicky Whelan as the woman, and also featuring Steve Guttenberg, Tito Ortiz, Texas Battle, Lynn Gilmartin, Tyler Jon Olson, and Heather Johansen. This definitely looks as bad as it sounds, another bargain bin collectible. ›››

Watch: Bank Vault Sci-Fi Short Film 'Box 616' Directed by Mitch Glass

Box 616 Short Film

"What I'm about to tell you will not make sense right now… But I'll explain." Dust has premiered a new sci-fi short film titled Box 616, a proof-of-concept short written & directed by filmmaker Mitch Glass - who made this with only three people and less than $1,000 budget. It's a solid, captivating, genre short that ends with a good twist. After his father's death, Malcolm inherits an old bank vault that couldn't be opened for 70 years. Inside, he finds a strange device and a recording asking him to complete a series of requests. Box 616 stars Nick Rua and Gary Bristow. This short is all about the concept - mixing a handful of genres with a dash of originality. Makes me wish they'd make National Treasure as a sci-fi thriller with clues like this box. ›››

Vin Diesel is Brought Back to Life in First Trailer for 'Bloodshot' Movie

Bloodshot Trailer

"They've been manipulating you… What you think is real, sometimes ain't." Sony Pictures has debuted the first official trailer for action sci-fi movie Bloodshot, another comic book adaptation, this one about a slain soldier (and mobster?) who is re-animated with superpowers. It's based on the comic book character known as Bloodshot, published in various Valiant Comics, the first appearance in 1992. Vin Diesel stars as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero "Bloodshot" by the RST corporation. It seems to be a twisted mix of Upgrade and RoboCop, which might actually be awesome. The cast includes Guy Pearce, Eiza González, Sam Heughan, Toby Kebbell, Lamorne Morris, Talulah Riley, Johannes Haukur Johannesson, and Siddharth Dhananjay. So far, so good! Looks massively entertaining, though it seems like a story we've seen so often before (see: Source Code, Edge of Tomorrow). ›››

Watch: VFX Video for 'Gemini Man' Show the De-Aging of Will Smith

Gemini Man De-Aging VFX

Sony released Ang Lee's new sci-fi action movie Gemini Man in theaters a few weeks ago. Aside from the HFR cinematography, the film is boasting "groundbreaking" technology with its de-aging VFX. Gemini Man is about the world's best assassin, played by Will Smith at his current age (51), attempting to retire until he's pursued by a younger version of himself. He soon learns that they actually cloned him, and this younger "Junior" is exactly like him in every way. To create this character, Ang Lee filmed Will Smith in a motion-capture rig (with face-capture cameras) and then let the VFX artists work on their computers to de-age him. A few videos have arrived online over the last few weeks explaining the process, and showing before/after shots as well as a glimpse as the techniques they're using. I highly doubt these videos will convince anyone to see the movie, but they're fascinating to watch nonetheless because it's an advance process. Most of the de-aging VFX work was done by Weta Digital in New Zealand, still the best at what they do. Watch below. ›››

Thomas Jane in First Trailer for LAPD Action Thriller 'Crown Vic' Film

Crown Vic Trailer

"I'm telling you, man, it's a war out here. Going to be us against them." Screen Media Films has unveiled an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Crown Vic, which first premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. This film tells the story of one memorable night in the life of LAPD officer Ray Mandel while hunting two cop killers on the loose. The two cops, one a rookie, must contend with a city about to boil over. Starring Thomas Jane and Luke Kleintank, with David Krumholtz, Bridget Moynahan, Gregg Bello, Scottie Thompson, and Josh Hopkins. Looks like a very intense, gritty film about how incredibly hard it is to work as cops in a big city. ›››
