Ansari was imprisoned over a forged national identity card and for entering Pakistan illegally without official travel documents.
Earlier, on Oct 17, Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr. Muhammad Faisal confirmed that Ansari was being released after completing his jail term.
“Hamid Nehal Ansari, an Indian spy who had illegally entered Pakistan and was involved in anti-state activities and forging documents, is being released upon completion of his sentence and is being repatriated to India,” said Dr Faisal.
A military court awarded three years rigorous imprisonment to Ansari, who was arrested in 2012 by law enforcement agencies from a hotel in Kohat.
He had crossed into Pakistan via Afghanistan with a fake identification card named “Hamza”.
Ansari travelled to Afghanistan from India on a tourist visa and then went to Jalalabad before entering Pakistan. His whereabouts were unknown to his family members for almost three years.
