Mohammad Abbas registered his career-best figures of 5/33 helping Pakistan restrict Australia to a modest total in the first innings. Off-spinner Bilal Asif picked up three wickets.
Aaron Finch was the top scorer for Australia with 39 runs. Mitchell Starc played a little cameo of 34 runs towards the end of the innings.
Earlier, the visitors resumed their innings with 20 runs on the board and eight wickets in hand.
At the score of 36, Abbas once again came into the action and sent Shaun March (3) back to the pavilion.
Then, he followed it up with the wicket of Travis Head (14) and left Australia 56/4. This was his fourth wicket in the game.
Leg-spinner Yasir Shah added insult to injury when he provided another breakthrough in shape of Mitchell March (14) and left Australia 75/5.
Meanwhile, Asif — who is playing only his second Test match picked up the key wicket of Australia Captain Tim Paine (3) at the stroke of lunch.
On Tuesday, Debutant opener Fakhar Zaman and Sarfraz missed hundred by six runs each but still revived Pakistan on the first day, after Pakistan found themselves reeling at 57/5 having won the toss and decided to bat first. Fakhar and Sarfraz scored 94 each and helped Pakistan recover to a total of 282.
