Trailer for Todd Farmer & Patrick Lussier's Halloween Horror 'Trick'

Trick Trailer

"People want a monster that they can fear." We're just about to enter October, which means it's the month of horror leading up to Halloween! RLJE Films has debuted an official trailer for the indie horror thriller titled Trick, the latest from writer / director duo Todd Farmer & Patrick Lussier (both of Drive Angry and My Bloody Valentine). Trick is the latest Halloween night horror, this one also involving a massacre from the past that comes to haunt people again. Omar Epps plays a no-nonsense detective trying to track down the serial killer named "Trick" who is terrorizing a small town. Also starring Ellen Adair, Kristina Reyes, Jamie Kennedy, Vanessa Aspillaga, and Tom Atkins. The main pumpkin mask seems to be inspired a bit by Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat, though this movie looks way more brutal and intensely violent. Watch out. ›››

Official Trailer for Prune Nourry's Autobiographical 'Serendipity' Doc

Serendipity Doc Trailer

"When you're ill, you realize that health is everything. If you're in good health, there is no limit." Cohen Media Group has released the first official trailer for a documentary titled Serendipity, not to be confused with that John Cusack film from 2001. Serendipity is an autobiographical film made by, and about, French artist Prune Nourry. She has spent a majority of her artistic career creating work that deals with women's bodies and female fertility. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, she decided to create this film (also a book) which captures the subsequent evolution of her body, her work, her soul, her mind. This beautiful film embodies the artist's belief that everything is connected, coincidence is an illusion, and "the essentials to life really are health, love, and art." It is a very unique, deeply introspective doc that is worth a bit of your time. ›››

Watch: Superb Puppet Short Film 'Martha the Monster' About Identity

Martha the Monster Short Film

"I am a strong, empowered monster." Don't miss this funky, fantastic short film Martha the Monster, from writer / director Christopher Weekes. In an upside-down reality where humans live with monsters, Martha, a 20-something furry, must learn to hold her own in a modern metropolitan city. It features full-size puppet characters, similar to those in Where the Wild Things Are. "I was massively inspired by the work of Spike Jonze, and was really drawn to the idea of a fun, colourful way of exploring what it’s like to blend in within a big city when you’re so obviously built to stand out," Weekes explains. "Blending a mix of facial capture with traditional puppet techniques… a little of the old, a little of the new." This stars Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Kailah Cabanas, Nicholas Brown, and Krew Boylan. Another must watch short. ›››

Incredible Behind-the-Scenes Look at Mendes' One-Shot '1917' Movie

1917 Behind-the-Scenes

"There is no better way to tell this story than with one continuous shot." Ohhhhh hell yes! Another one-shot movie coming up this year. Universal has debuted a fascinating behind-the-scenes featurette for Sam Mendes' new film 1917, set during World War I in the year 1917 - watch the first teaser trailer again. The war movie takes place over the course of one day, following soldiers on a "seemingly impossible mission" to deliver a message across enemy lines to stop an attack that will kill their own soldiers. With cinematography by Roger Deakins, of course. The excellent ensemble cast features: Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Madden, Andrew Scott, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, George MacKay, Teresa Mahoney, Dean-Charles Chapman, Daniel Mays, Adrian Scarborough, Justin Edwards, Gerran Howell, Anson Boon, and Richard McCabe. I love that they release these featurettes now, instead of saving them only for Blu-ray special features, because this looks magnificent. So much movie-making magic being shown! Wow. ›››

First Trailer for Lauren Greenfield's Riveting New Doc 'The Kingmaker'

The Kingmaker Trailer

"They found no skeletons [in the closet], only beautiful shoes." Showtime has debuted the official trailer for The Kingmaker, the latest acclaimed documentary made by filmmaker Lauren Greenfield (The Queen of Versailles, Generation Wealth). This just premiered at the Venice and Telluride Film Festivals a month ago, and it's also playing at the Toronto, Bergen, London, and Chicago Film Festivals before it opens in a few select US theaters in November. Focused on the indomitable character of Imelda Marcos, The Kingmaker examines, with intimate access, the Marcos family's improbable return to power in the Philippines. Marcos is the extremely wealthy former first lady of the Philippines whose tricky behind-the-scenes influence of her husband Ferdinand's presidency rocketed her to the global political stage. It's a look at how her corruption and ruthlessness are still prevalent, and it's a riveting, eye-opening, frightful doc about the times we live in. ›››

Official US Trailer for Stunning French Animated Film 'I Lost My Body'

I Lost My Body Trailer

"Sensational." Netflix has unveiled a full-length, official US trailer for the outstanding French animated film I Lost My Body, also known as J'ai perdu mon corps. That French title translates directly to I Lost My Body, though it has also gone under the simpler title of just Grab. A cut-off hand escapes from a dissection lab with one goal: to get back to its body. As it scrambles through the pitfalls of Paris, it remembers its life with the man it was once attached to… until they met Gabrielle. The film had trouble getting financing, and it took over two years to develop and create, eventually produced at the animation studio Xilam. I saw this in Cannes and totally flipped for it, I love everything about it. My review is quoted in the trailer as well - it definitely is "one of the most imaginative, ambitious films of the year." The film stars the voices of Hakim Faris, Victoire Du Bois, and Patrick d'Assumçao. And the beautiful score is by Dan Levy. See below. ›››

Awesome Full Trailer for Prequel 'The King's Man' with Ralph Fiennes

The King's Man Trailer

"While governments wait for orders, our people take action." 20th Century Fox has debuted the main full-length trailer for The King's Man, an exciting new prequel movie in Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman series. The first teaser dropped in the summer, but this official trailer is even better. Damn this looks awesome! Once again directed by Matthew Vaughn, in this one we go back to the days of World War I, aka The Great War, to tell the origin story of "the very first independent intelligence agency." Taron Egerton as Eggsy isn't in this one, it's a whole new cast. Featuring an outstanding set of actors. Ralph Fiennes headlines, along with Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, Harris Dickinson, Daniel Brühl, plus Djimon Hounsou, and Charles Dance. The more footage we see, the more impressed I am by this. Looking great so far! All the action seems thrilling in addition to the distinct look & feel of the film. ›››

Blue Film Trailer

"You've been a little… disconnected lately." Gravitas Ventures has debuted an official trailer for a film titled Blue, an indie dramedy made by wife and wife duo Gabriela Ledesma and Callie Schuttera. The two co-wrote the screenplay together, while Ledesma directs and Schuttera plays a character based on Gabriela's own experiences earlier in life. Based on true events, a young woman struggles to piece her world together after a botched suicide attempt. The film has a bit of dark humor, presenting a raw and honest look at the struggles of life and how hard it is to keep it all together. Starring Callie Schuttera, Shaw Jones, Judith Scott, Laura Harrison, Chelsea Lopez, Johnny Loquasto, Jennifer Daly, Todd Stroik, Aubrey Manning, and Vanessa Sawson. SSIFF Review: Tim Roth Sifts Through the Past in 'The Song of Names'

The Song of Names Review

Music is a remarkably powerful stimulus, capable of transmitting the greatest emotions and stories across space and time. A number of excellent films this year have shown the power of music (most notably Portrait of a Lady on Fire - read our review). Another one joining that list is The Song of Names, which is indeed about "The Song of Names", as the title indicates, from World War II. The film is described as an "emotional detective story spread over two continents and a half century", though that's not really the best description for it. The Song of Names is a moving Holocaust memorial film about a Polish Jewish violin prodigy named Dovidl who suddenly disappears in London just before a major concert, then is found again 35 years later by his British friend, living a much quieter life. It's good! But it's mostly bogged down by formulaic storytelling. ›››

SSIFF Review: James Franco's Wacky Old Hollywood Fable 'Zeroville'

Zeroville Review

There's no place like old Hollywood… Zeroville is actor / writer / director James Franco's latest cinematic endeavor, a feature film adapted from Steve Erickson's novel of the same name, a dream-like story that starts out in 1969 and drifts into the 1970s in Hollywood. Franco's film is as wacky and as weird as expected, especially considering James Franco has been churning out films (as a director) by the dozen over the last few years, and yet none of them seem to make any real impact. The Disaster Artist being one of the few exceptions. Has anyone seen any of his last two - Future World or The Pretenders? Since it was playing at the San Sebastian Film Festival, I took a chance and went to see Zeroville and you know, it's not that bad. It doesn't deserve the hate it's getting (in other reviews) but there's nothing really that interesting in it, either. ›››

Mr. Jones Trailer

"What's being done here will transform mankind." Signature Ent. in the UK has debuted the first trailer for Mr. Jones, the latest film from Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Holland (of Europa Europa, Washington Square, Copying Beethoven, Spoor). This first premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, and has stopped by many other international festivals, heading to the London and Zurich Film Festivals next this fall. Mr. Jones brings to the screen the extraordinary and powerful story of the real-life Welsh journalist who uncovered Stalin's genocidal famine in Ukraine in the 1930s, which killed almost 10 million. Before the start of WWII, he travels first into Russia, then down to Ukraine, becoming the first to break the news in the western media of the government-created famine in the Soviet Union. Starring James Norton as journalist Gareth Jones; also featuring Vanessa Kirby, Peter Sarsgaard, Joseph Mawle, Kenneth Cranham, Celyn Jones, Krzysztof Pieczynski, Fenella Woolgar, and Martin Bishop. Third Trailer for Animated 'Spies in Disguise' Movie Starring Will Smith

Spies in Disguise Trailer

"Did anyone else see uh– uh, a pigeon?" 20th Century Fox has unveiled a third trailer (and a new poster) for Blue Sky Studios' animated movie Spies In Disguise, following the first two trailers earlier this year. This spy comedy has a funny concept about a spy who gets turned into a bird, but is that all there is here? Lance and Walter. One is a super cool and charming spy, and the other invents the super cool gadgets Lance uses. When Walter turns Lance into a bird, they must learn to rely on each other like never before in order to save the world. Will Smith voices Lance, and Tom Holland voices Walter. The main voice cast also includes Ben Mendelsohn, Karen Gillan, Rashida Jones, DJ Khaled, & Masi Oka. Inspired by the short film Pigeon: Impossible, about a spy battling a pigeon. This looks like it's borrowing a lot from The Incredibles, both in style and story, along with James Bond. Easily the best trailer yet - hopefully it turns out any good. ›››

Italian Trailer for Turturro's 'Big Lebowski' Spin-Off 'The Jesus Rolls'

The Jesus Rolls Trailer

Get ready. Europictures Italia has debuted an official trailer for the indie film The Jesus Rolls, a spin-off from the Coens' The Big Lebowski centered on notable bowler Jesus Quintana, played by John Turturro in the original film. This has been in the works for a while, and John Turturro himself has taken on the task of not only starring but also writing & directing the film. The film is opening first in Italy in October, despite not premiering at any festivals yet and having no other international release dates besides this. It features one of those crazy Coen-esque plots that involves a gun-toting hairdresser, in addition to Jesus Quintana. This also features Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou (!!), Jon Hamm, Susan Sarandon, and Pete Davidson. This looks kooky and potentially entertaining, but it's hard to tell from this first trailer. Maybe it will be worth the wait? Or maybe not? The film is in English despite the Italian dubbing heard in this trailer. ›››

SSIFF Review: Nakache & Toledano's 'The Specials' is Really Special

The Specials

Awww wow, The Specials is really something wonderful. Instantly one of my favorite films of the year. The Specials is the latest feature from writers / directors Olivier Nakache & Éric Toledano, the same two French filmmakers who made the hit film The Intouchables a few years back. This originally premiered as the Closing Night film at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, but I missed it there. I finally caught up with it at the San Sebastian Film Festival and oh my goodness, I love it with all my heart. A spectacular film across the board, delivering in every sense - profound performances, engaging storytelling, energetic music, sincere moments of empathy and understanding. It's a film with a hard-hitting message (that we must take care of every last human – especially those that society rejects), yet one of the finest examples of a message film in years. It will move you to tears and motivate you to make more of an effort to support more people. ›››

Nicolas Cage Hunts a Jaguar on a Ship in Official Trailer for 'Primal'

Primal Trailer

"I'm going hunting!" Lionsgate has released an official trailer for an indie action thriller titled Primal, the latest film directed by a stunt coordinator named Nick Powell. This has a plot straight out of the 90s with one of these eye-rolling concepts. A big-game hunter for zoos has booked passage on a shipping freighter with a fresh haul of exotic & deadly animals from the Amazon, including a rare white Jaguar - along with a political assassin being extradited to the US in secret. Two days into the journey, the assassin escapes and releases the captive animals, throwing the ship into chaos. So Nicolas Cage has to hunt and stop both the jaguar and the assassin. Also starring Famke Janssen, Kevin Durand, Michael Imperioli, LaMonica Garrett, Rey Hernandez, Tom Walker, and John Lewis. This looks so incredibly dumb. I cannot even believe it exists - feels like it came through some blip in the space-time continuum and showed up in 2019. ›››

"We have to climb to the top ourselves." Well Go USA has debuted an official US trailer for the intense new Chinese adventure movie The Climbers, the latest creation from award-winning Chinese filmmaker Daniel Lee (of Three Kingdoms, 14 Blades, White Vengeance, Dragon Blade, Time Raiders). Mount Everest - the second step under the cliff. The four members of the China Everest Climbing Commando are attacking the most difficult and most dangerous "second step". This is their fifth attempt. The first four failures have cost them too much physical strength - finally, the wind and snow stop… This film tells the story of the Chinese team to summit Mount Everest from the North Ridge (through Tibet), the first people to do so in 1960. The ensemble cast stars Wu Jing, Zhang Ziyi, Zhang Yi, Jing Boran, Hu Ge, Long Chen, Duobujie, with Jackie Chan. First Official Trailer for 1970s Vampire Thriller 'Climate of the Hunter'

Climate of the Hunter Trailer

"Mom, you're alone out here." "Then I better get prepared." XYZ Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Climate of the Hunter, the latest feature from prolific indie filmmaker Mickey Reece (Strike Dear Mistress & Cure His Heart, Arrows of Outrageous Fortune). Set in the late 1970s, two middle-aged sisters vie for the affection of a man from their past who may or may not be a vampire. This just premiered at Fantastic Fest this month, but doesn't have a release yet. Starring Ginger Gilmartin, Mary Buss, Ben Hall, Jacob Snovel, Laurie Cummings, Sheridan McMichael, and Danielle Evon Ploeger. Climate of the Hunter, according to Reece's local online newspaper The Oklahoman, is described as "a visual interpretation of The Jesus and Mary Chain's 1985 debut album, Psychocandy." "From its coverage of Elvis's death, to Monica Lewinsky and the O.J. Simpson murder trial, the National Enquirer rattled the foundations of American culture and politics, sometimes allegedly using payoffs and blackmail to get its scoops." "I still have unfinished worked in this world" Freestyle Digital Media has released an official trailer for a Japanese drama "based on a true story" titled Immortal Hero, from director Hiroshi Akabane. The film is inspired by the real story of author Ryuho Okawa, guided by spiritual beings who helped him recover after a near-fatal heart condition. "Based on the true story of a man whose near death experience inspires him to choose life… and change the lives of millions." Hisaaki Takeuchi stars in and produced this film, telling the story of a man named Makoto Mioya, pretty much the same person as Okawa. Also starring Yoshimi Ashikawa, Tamotsu Ishibashi, Kei Kinoshita, Tamao Satô, and Fumika Shimizu. First Trailer for 'Show Me What You Got' Directed by Svetlana Cvetko

Show Me What You Got Trailer

"Enjoy the future and whatever will come." An official trailer has debuted an indie B&W sultry drama titled Show Me What You Got, the feature directorial debut of an experienced cinematographer who's worked on numerous acclaimed documentaries. An undeniable spark during a chance meeting leads a curious group of three 30-somethings to explore their sexuality while rumbling from Los Angeles to Italy, and discover the profound effect strangers can have on the trajectory of their lives. Matthias & Maxime Trailer

"I'm having thoughts I never had before." eOne in Canada has released a trailer for the film Matthias & Maxime, the latest film by Quebecois filmmaker Xavier Dolan. His other most recent film, The Death & Life of John F. SSIFF Review: 'The Other Lamb' Questions Humanity's Obedient Nature

The Other Lamb Review

Are humans naturally obedient? What does it take for someone to realize they're being led on, fed nonsense to keep them in line. How do they break free from the group mentality? These are just a few of the questions that this intriguing film brings up. The Other Lamb is the latest film made by acclaimed Polish filmmaker Malgorzata Szumowska, her first entirely English language feature following her Berlin Film Festival hit Mug from 2018 (which won her a Grand Jury Prize Silver Bear). Her style is on full display this time, telling a dark fairy tale-esque story about an group of only women living as a small congregation on their own in a forest. There is one man who leads them all, known as the "Shepherd", who refers to them as his wives and daughters. It's eerie, but that is the point. The film criticizes the patriarchal society we live in, and religion. ›››

Kerry Washington in First Teaser Trailer for 'American Son' Adaptation

American Son Teaser Trailer

"I don't know what you expect me to do?" "Find my son!" Netflix has unveiled a teaser trailer for the film American Son, a feature adaptation of the Broadway play of the same name (that first opened 2018). This film just premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and it will be released globally by Netflix starting in early November. American Son is about an estranged couple that reunites in a South Florida police station to help find their missing teenage son. The situation gets even more tense as time goes by without any updates or answers. Kerry Washington, who also starred on Broadway, plays the lead role of Kendra Ellis-Connor, the mother of the missing boy. This also stars Jeremy Jordan, Steven Pasquale, and Eugene Lee - all from the play, too. It looks like a powerful story to tell - that's about race and relationships and society itself. ›››

Official US Trailer for Biopic Doc 'The Ice King' About a Figure Skater

The Ice King Trailer

"All he had were his skates and his talent." Film Movement has debuted an official US trailer for the film The Ice King, a biopic documentary about a figure skater named John Curry. James Erskine's The Ice King is the searing documentary of a lost cultural icon, a story of art, sport, sexuality, and rebellion. With incredible unseen footage of some of his most remarkable performances and with access to Curry's letters, archive interviews, and interviews with his family, friends and collaborators, this is a portrait of the man who turned ice-skating from a dated sport into an exalted art form. Watch any figure skating and it falls into two possible camps: before and after John Curry. He became the first openly gay Olympian at a time when homosexuality was barely legal. From bullying and prejudice, to relief in the gay underworld, to his untimely death from AIDS, Curry's story dovetails with the experiences of a generation. This has taken over a year since its initial debut to finally arrive in America, but it will be available to watch this October. Check it out. ›››

Kevin Makely & Bruce Dern in Trailer for Outlaws Western 'Badland'

Badland Trailer

"I always knew my sins would catch up to me." Cinedigm has debuted a trailer for an indie western titled Badland, not to be confused with Terrence Malick's classic Badlands. This Wild West Badland film is the latest from writer/director Justin Lee (Alone We Fight, Swell) and is arriving November. Set after the Civil War, detective Matthias Breecher is hired to track down the worst of the Confederate war criminals. As he roams the Old West seeking justice, his resolve is tested when he meets a determined pioneer woman who is far more than she seems. Starring an impressive cast: Kevin Makely, Mira Sorvino, Wes Studi, Trace Adkins, Bruce Dern, Jeff Fahey, Tony Todd, Amanda Wyss, Ryan Kelley, and James Russo. SSIFF Review: Makoto Shinkai's 'Weathering With You' is Odd Yet Cute

Weathering With You Review

"Who cares if we can't see any sunshine? I want you more than any blue sky." The latest feature film made by acclaimed Japanese animation filmmaker Makoto Shinkai (of the beloved Your Name before this) is called Weathering With You (originally Tenki no ko) and it has been playing at film festivals after first opening in Japan earlier this summer. I just caught up with it and I have been looking forward to seeing how he would follow up Your Name. There are a few truly spectacular sequences in this film, which alone make it worth watching. I love Makoto Shinkai's style and animation and super cute storytelling. But this is one strange parable about weather and has such a peculiar message that I'm not entirely sure what to make of it. ›››

Arrival in Donostia - Warm Welcome at the San Sebastián Film Festival

San Sebastián Film Festival

The sun shines brightly over the city as I arrive into San Sebastian, warming it up to a nice 86 degrees at the peak of the day. The summer may just about be over (according to the calendar), but here it still feels like it's far from done. Kicking off today is the San Sebastián Film Festival (known officially as the Festival de San Sebastián or Donostia Zinemaldia) now in its 67th year. The town of San Sebastian is located on the northern coast of Spain, in Basque Country, not too far from the French border and not too far from the city Bilboa. There's a stunning curved beach that runs through the center of town, crowded with many people enjoying the sand and waves while it's still warm. The festival's logo is a sea shell, of course, along with the top prize being the Golden Shell - which couldn't be more fitting. I'm just here to keep watching more films. ›››

Brief New Trailer for Ulrich Köhler's 'In My Room' Starring Hans Löw

In My Room Trailer

"A film of meticulous details and sly, subtle ironies." Grasshopper Film has debuted an official US trailer for the cult hit German indie film In My Room, which originally premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year more than a year ago. They're finally releasing this hidden gem in US cinemas starting this October, for anyone who still wants to catch up with it. In My Room is about a man, played by Hans Löw, who wakes up one day to discover he is the only person left alive on the entire planet. But this isn't really a sci-fi film, it's more of a low-key drama that plays this scenario out to the fullest. He builds a home and starts living on his own there. I saw this at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival last year and I seriously loved it, writing a glowing review saying it's a "brilliant" film that provides unique "commentary about relationships and humanity and life on this planet." This is a very odd, brief trailer that doesn't show much - perhaps that's best for this film. ›››

Liam Neeson & Lesley Manville in First UK Trailer for 'Ordinary Love'

Ordinary Love Trailer

"There isn't a moment… I won't be there with you." Focus Features / Universal UK have debuted an official trailer for an indie cancer drama titled Ordinary Love, from directors Lisa Barros D'Sa & Glenn Leyburn (Cherrybomb and Good Vibrations). This just premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and is next playing at the San Diego and Chicago Film Festivals this fall. The short pitch for this film is perfect: an extraordinary look at ordinary love. Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville (from Phantom Thread) star as a long-standing couple facing a potentially life-changing cancer diagnosis, in this film written by Northern Irish playwright Owen McCafferty. The very small cast includes David Wilmot, Amit Shah, Esh Alladi, and Geraldine McAlinden. This picked up solid reviews out of TIFF, and it looks especially lovely and heartbreaking. This is a really beautiful trailer (perfect song choice) that will bring out some strong emotions. Take a look below. ›››

First Teaser Trailer for Anthology Horror Film 'The Mortuary Collection'

The Mortuary Collection Trailer

"Have you any experience in the mortuary arts?" Trapdoor Pictures has debuted an official trailer for an indie horror anthology film titled The Mortuary Collection, which is getting its big premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin this weekend. The film features four unique horror stories that progress through four decades - a '50s housewife struggles with a mysterious presence in her bathroom; a '60s college boy gets a taste of his own fraternizing medicine; and a '70s husband makes some tough decisions about his wife; culminating in the '80s-set The Babysitter Murders. The film is wrapped around with a story featuring a young girl who enters a secret room in a mortuary and learns the backstory of the mortician’s favorite deaths. Starring Caitlin Custer, Clancy Brown, Barak Hardley, Christine Kilmer, Mike Nelson, and Sarah Hay. Short Trailer for J.D. Dillard's Exceptional Monster Movie 'Sweetheart'

Sweetheart Trailer

"Intense." Blumhouse has debuted an official trailer for the indie horror film Sweetheart, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year in the Midnight section. This also just premiered at Fantastic Fest, and will be arriving on VOD in October for those who want to watch. This is the next film from up-and-coming filmmaker J.D. Dillard, who broke out with his film Sleight a few years back before bringing this one again to Sundance earlier this year. Kiersey Clemons stars in this as a woman who washes up on a deserted island beach, not sure where she is. She things she's alone until some kind of creature shows up at night. I saw this at Sundance and really flipped for it, truly one of the best creature features in years - and I ended up quoted in this trailer (here's my full review). It's a very short 30-second trailer because they don't want to reveal too much of the film - it's better to save all the shots for the experience of watching it unfold. ›››

Official Trailer for Errol Morris' 'American Dharma' Doc About Bannon

American Dharma Trailer

"A portrait of delusion." Utopia has debuted an official trailer for the documentary American Dharma, the latest film from legendary doc filmmaker Errol Morris. This originally premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year, but became controversial as it spends too much time sympathizing with and promoting an extremely evil person. No one wanted to release it, but Morris finally found a way to get it out. American Dharma is a portrait of controversial political strategist and former Donald Trump advisor, Steve Bannon. Morris engages in a conversation with Bannon, challenging him on all of his beliefs, and asking him to breakdown the reasons why he's doing what he's doing in the world. It's shocking, surprising, and also just scary as fuck because he straight up explains how and why they have been manipulating and tricking people into supporting conservatism. I saw this in Venice last year and I hated it, as it allows Bannon to humanize his beliefs in a way in which no one needs to see. But that's up for everyone to decide themselves, I suppose. ›››
