Review: Zach Cregger's Unique Storytelling Sharpens 'Barbarian'

Barbarian Review

The horror genre has been a tad inconsistent this year, not everything has ended up that good. The chances of leaving the theater either disappointed or quite satisfied are very similar, but curiously, the most praised horror films of 2022 are the ones that have most often negatively surprised me. This "curse" has been fading slightly over time, but it has been difficult to enter the theater with high expectations and end up having those expectations met. Barbarian is another movie in the genre that has been incredibly complimented by the vast majority of viewers so far… This time, I'm happy to say that it deserves all of the hype received. ›››

Another One to Avoid: Official Trailer for 'Mummies' Animated Movie

Mummies Trailer

"The only way to get it back is to… go the world of the living." Warner Bros UK has revealed an official trailer for an animated kids movie called Mummies, another of these cheesy direct-to-video creations that is somehow getting a theatrical release in the UK next year. "Warner Bros. Pictures presents a production of 4Cats Pictures SL, Anangu Grup SLU and Moomios Movie AIE, with the collaboration of Atresmedia Cine, with the participation of MOVISTAR+ and with the collaboration of TV3." This clearly borrows the character design and family setup from the popular animated series Hotel Transylvania, but with mummies instead. The mummy family ends up in present-day London and embarks on a wacky and hilarious journey in search of an old ring that was stolen by a British archaeologist. Yes, teach kids what really happened! The English-language voice cast includes Joe Thomas, Eleanor Tomlinson, Santiago Winder, Celia Imrie, Dan Starkey, Hugh Bonneville, singer + songwriter + record producer Shakka, and Sean Bean. This looks like such a cheesy and bland movie, but at least it's about how Egyptian artifacts were stolen by the British. ›››

Frank Bigelow is Going to Die Again in First Trailer for 'D.O.A.' Remake

D.O.A. Remake Trailer

"You've been dealt a bad deal… so don't make it worse." Did anyone know about this? There's a brand new 2022 remake of a classic 1940s film noir film titled D.O.A., premiering soon at the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival. The original D.O.A., directed by Rudolph Maté & starring Edmond O'Brien, was about a P.I. named Frank Bigelow who is told he's been poisoned and has only a few days to live, so he tries to find out who killed him and why. "While the story shares a title and premise with the original movie… most of the plot elements are original," the director of this new one explains. "With the clock ticking, Bigelow descends into a world of crooks and double-dealers, treacherous women and violent men, slashing through a tangle of conspiracies to figure out who 'killed' him & why." This one stars John Doe as Frank, with Paola Duque, Matt Pinfield, Lucinda Jenney, Anne Gaybis, Jake La Botz, Tony V, Pam Rickard, John Byner. Doesn't look so bad, though it seems like they're just copying the original and not doing anything different. ›››

New Trailer for 'Boy From Heaven' Film About Corruption in Religion

Boy From Heaven Trailer

"Make sure he is elected." Memento International has revealed an official trailer for an acclaimed film titled Boy From Heaven, set entirely in Egypt even though it's actually a Swedish production. This premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Best Screenplay award, and has since played at numerous other festivals including the Zurich, Hamburg, London, Busan, Vancouver, Ghent, Mill Valley Film Fests. On the first day back after summer, the grand imam collapses and dies in front of students at a religious university in Cairo. This marks the start of a ruthless battle for influence to take his place. The film is about corruption and how even the most holy organization, the prestigious Al-Azhar University located in Cairo, is susceptible to horrible power play dynamics. The film stars Tawfeek Barhom as Adam, Fares Fares, Mohammad Bakri, Makram Khoury, Mehdi Dehbi, Moe Ayoub, Sherwan Haji, and Ahmed Lassaoui. I was a fan of this one in Cannes, mostly because it's so frighteningly honest about corruption, but the reviews were mixed from critics. I hope it gets a US release set soon - expected to open early 2023. ›››

Disney has debuted another "Special Look" sneak preview for the upcoming Willow series, a 2022 continuation of the story from the beloved 80s movie of the same name. Official Trailer for 'To The End' Doc Following Four Female Politicians

To The End Trailer

"Now is the time to leverage our power." Roadside Attractions has revealed their trailer for the rousing new political documentary film To The End, which originally premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. This doc is the highly anticipated follow-up to the AOC doc Knock Down the House from a few years ago, also focusing on young female politicians in the United States. Stopping the climate crisis is a question of political courage, and the clock is ticking. Filmed over four years of hope and crisis, To The End captures the emergence of a new generation of leaders and the movement behind the most sweeping climate change legislation in U.S. history - the "Green New Deal". Award-winning director Rachel Lears follows four exceptional young women—Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, activist Varshini Prakash, climate policy writer Rhiana Gunn-Wright, political strategist Alexandra Rojas— as they fight to shift the narrative around climate, revealing the crisis as an opportunity to build a better society. Let's hope this film can make a difference! I'm not sure this film alone will change anything, but the people it's about can. Check this out. ›››

This first premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, and also played at the Hot Springs and Middleburg Film Festival. It's also playing at AFI Fest in Los Angeles this fall before it opens in US theaters at the end of the year. Beginning in the early 1970s with The Power Broker book, Caro's timeless exploration of power and NYC, via the machinations of Robert Moses, they have worked together to produce Caro’s repertoire of exhaustively researched and exquisitely edited works. Now, with Caro in the midst of finishing his fifth and final tome on LBJ, both Gottlieb and the world wait impatiently for what will likely be their final collaboration." The film is the the sixth feature, and third original project, from Canadian filmmakers / twins Jen & Sylvia Soska (American Mary, Rabid), known as the Soska Sisters. The film also stars Aramis Sartorio, Ola Dada, Andrea Jin, Brianna, and Alanna Finn-Morris, Ivan Decker, Mackenzie Gray, Sophie Buddle. Family man Peter gets more than he paid for when he books a 36-hour session with the sadistic "Mistress Satana" who seems more intent on making him suffer for his sins. Sounds freaky, for sure. Review: Edward Berger's Adaptation of 'All Quiet on the Western Front'

All Quiet on the Western Front Review

With the exponential growth of streaming, highly anticipated cinematographic works with high production value inevitably will end up being seen on one's tiny home screen (or mobile phone) rather than on the giant screen found in movie theaters. Despite constantly feeling sorry for not watching certain movies on the big screen, I believe a peaceful, satisfying future for all viewers involves offering both options for watching a film. Thus, everyone can choose the "format" they prefer for their experience, and no one is bothered. That said, Edward Berger's latest adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front deserves to be seen on the biggest screen and with the best possible sound conditions, as it's undoubtedly one of the best films of 2022. ›››

Official Trailer for Netflix Doc 'Orgasm Inc: The Story of OneTaste'

Orgasm Inc: The Story of OneTaste Trailer

"Love, connection, belonging – who wouldn't want those things?" Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for a documentary film titled Orgasm Inc: The Story of OneTaste, another true crime story about a shady modern "business" and the sketchy creators behind it. A sexual wellness company gains fame and followers for its practice of "orgasmic meditation" — until members come forward with disturbing allegations. Why am I not surprised? The film is about a California company named "OneTaste", which pitched itself as a "sexual wellness company" that teaches, above all, a technique called orgasmic meditation involving sexual stimulation as a form of meditation. Aside from ridiculous prices, many have accused the business to be a cult based around a pyramid scheme, and it's being investigated by the FBI for much worse than that. Yet another of these docs that tries to understand how they started, the point of all this, and how they became so successful to begin with. I just hope this digs deeper into their shady practices and the egos of the founders. ›››

Trailer for 'Battle For Saipan' Military Action Film with Casper Van Dien

Battle For Saipan Trailer

"As a surgeon, we don't arm ourselves during battle." But of course he must defend himself! Saban Films has revealed an official trailer for a military action film titled Battle for Saipan, based on the true story of the actual "Battle of Saipan" during World War II. The film is set to open later in November, if anyone is curious to watch. The Battle of Saipan was a battle of the Pacific campaign fought on the island of Saipan in the Mariana Islands in 1944. The US had invaded the island in June, taking over to use it as a strategic point in progressing towards Japan. But the Japanese on the island pushed back. The film involves an attack on the American soldiers in early July, following a surgeon who defends a hospital from the Japanese soldiers. The film's cast includes Casper Van Dien, Jeff Fahey, Louis Mandylor, Jennifer Wenger, Devanny Pinn, Natalia Nikolaeva, Eoin O'Brien, and Josh Riley. The funniest thing about this jingoistic war film is Casper Van Dien, who usually plays the badass tough guy, starring as the sensitive surgeon this time. ›››

Lost Bullet 2 Trailer

"What do you want?" "For him to pay!" Netflix has launched the full-length official trailer for Lost Bullet 2: Back for More, a "high octane" sequel to the French film Lost Bullet from 2020. That one has been on Netflix since 2020 and is one of the underrated gems that is worth a watch if you enjoy action movies. Lino is a car savant-turned-police officer with a need for speed. Determined to find the murderers of his brother and his mentor, Lino continues his hunt and won't let anyone – or anything – get in his way. Lost Bullet 2 is the exciting sequel to the 2020 French action thriller that "wastes nothing in its quest to deliver the goods." Watch This: Composer Bear McCreary Featurette for 'Rings of Power'

Composer Bear McCreary Featurette

"We recorded The Rings of Power around the world - orchestra in London, choirs in Vienna, and various studios all around Los Angeles." Even though the first season has already ended, we're all still buzzing from how good The Rings of Power series is so far. To celebrate this first season, a new featurette has debuted focusing on composer Bear McCreary, who created the epic, emotional music for the Prime Video series following in the footsteps of the legendary Howard Shore (who made all the LOTR/Hobbit scores before this). McCreary doesn't have any Academy Award nominations yet, but you'll know his work as a composer for Europa Report, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Happy Death Day 1 & 2, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Freaky, and many other films / shows / games previously. This video comes from io9, and shows McCreary talking about his process, and how he started with a piano and then came up with new sounds to use in the score. There is also an extensive interview on Vulture with him. As a huge fan of the Howard Shore scores, I was nervous about what he would come up with but relieved that it feels part of the same world. Listen in below. ›››

"Down, down, down came the hot thrashing flurry. Darkest night, black with hell-charneled fury. Leaving only… that deathly pale blue eye.?" Whoa! Netflix has revealed a teaser for The Pale Blue Eye, the second Edgar Allen Poe film out this year about his time as a cadet at West Point. (The other is Raven's Hollow on Shudder.) They're releasing this one in theaters just in time for Christmas this December, but it won't be on Netflix until early January in the New Year - not too long from now. Set at West Point, 1830. A world-weary detective is hired to discreetly investigate the gruesome murder of a cadet. Stymied by the cadets’ code of silence, he enlists one of their own to help unravel the case — a young man the world would come to know as Edgar Allan Poe. The film stars Christian Bale as Landor + Harry Melling as Poe, Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Harry Lawtey, Simon McBurney, Hadley Robinson, Timothy Spall, Brennan Cook, Charlie Tahan, and Robert Duvall. Only Gerard Butler can keep us all safe. Lionsgate has revealed the first official trailer for an action thriller movie called Plane - this trailer has been playing in theaters already this past weekend before Black Adam showings. It's yet another crazy intense Gerard Butler action movie with an absurd premise. An intrepid pilot finds himself caught in a war zone after he is forced to land his commercial aircraft during a terrible storm. He decides to fight back to keep the passengers safe from any harm until some help shows up. Butler stars as Brodie Torrance, with an ensemble cast including Mike Colter, Yoson An, Paul Ben-Victor, Daniella Pineda, Remi Adeleke, Joey Slotnick, Evan Dane Taylor, Claro de los Reyes, and Tony Goldwyn. The film was announced in 2016, acquired by Lionsgate Films in 2019, sold to Solstice Studios in 2020, re-acquired by Lionsgate in 2021, now set to open early 2023. It was shot in Puerto Rico. New Trailer for 'Going All The Way - Director's Edit' with Ben Affleck

Going All The Way: The Director's Edit

"He never even had a beard ’till he got mixed up with your son." Oscilloscope Labs has revealed the new trailer for a re-release of the 1997 indie coming-of-age film Going All The Way. It first premiered at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival years ago. Mark Pelllngton’s adaptation of Dan Wakefield's novel about young men coming of age in the 1950s is a timeless story of freedom and repression, friendship and family, sex and love, and the psychological & spiritual struggle to be true to one’s self. Pellington constructs an elegant and morally complex tale about two young Korean war veterans returning to their sheltered Indianapolis lives, only to find they no longer fit in. Starring a young Ben Affleck and Jeremy Davies, plus Jill Clayburgh, Lesley Ann Warren, Amy Locane, Nick Offerman, Rachel Weisz, and Rose McGowan. The newly re-edited & restored version of the film, dubbed "The Director's Edit", completely "upends the original cut, hews closer to the source novel, and cements the film as one of the most aesthetically fresh and thematically fascinating films of the 90s." I've never heard of this one before, but it sounds like a must watch indie flick. ›››

Netflix's Doc 'FIFA Uncovered' Official Trailer About Fraud & Greed

FIFA Uncovered Doc Trailer

"The lines between right and wrong blurred." Netflix has revealed a trailer for a docu series streaming this fall titled FIFA Uncovered, debuting just a few weeks before the next FIFA World Cup kicks off in Qatar. I'm glad they're releasing this now, because it's the honest, non-BS truth being reported and it's pretty scary how corrupt and greedy and horrible this organization is. (Perhaps one of the worst?) But at the same time, everyone loves the World Cup and football/soccer and can't stop watching. But at least we have a chance to get an inside look at how bad they are, and hear about this corruption first hand. From power struggles to global politics, this Netflix exploration of FIFA reveals the organization’s checkered history, and what it takes to host a world cup. Don't forget about how many people died building the new stadiums in Qatar for this year's World Cup. You can also top off this doc with a podcast series called "World Corrupt" also about FIFA's dirty side. Do these people really care about the game? No, they do not, they just care about money. ›››

Garcia is a Spanish mini-series for HBO Max about a cryogenically frozen super spy from the '60s who is thrust into modern-day Madrid when he is re-awakened. Set in a version of current-day Spain at the verge of societal collapse, the series follows Antonia, a reporter who accidentally unravels a decades-old plot concerning a super-agent created in the 1950s by the Francoist secret services. Starring Francisco Ortiz as Garcia and Veki Velilla as Atonia, with a series cast including Emilio Gutiérrez Caba, Francisco Reyes, Nico Romero, Helio Pedregal, Mario Pardo, Miki Molina, and Silvia Abascal. This actually looks pretty damn good!! And it played at both Fantastic Fest and Sitges recently, too. I dig the hard-edged politics & culture mixed in with comedy of an ice man arriving in modern times. Might be worth watching? ›››

Official Trailer for 'The Son' Starring Hugh Jackman & Zen McGrath

The Son Trailer

"There used to be so much joy in our family…" Sony Classics has debuted the main official trailer for The Son, the follow up to the Oscar-winning film The Father from French filmmaker Florian Zeller. He made this after Anthony Hopkins won the Oscar, part of his "trilogy" of stories about family. It premiered at the 2022 Venice Film Festival and it also played at the London Film Festival (read MSB's review). A couple of years after his parents' divorce, 17-year-old Nicholas no longer feels he can stay with his mother. He moves in with his father Peter and new partner. Juggling work, his and Beth's new baby, and the offer of his dream job, Peter tries to care for Nicholas as he wishes his own father had cared for him. But by reaching for the past to correct its mistakes, he loses sight of how to hold onto the Nicholas in the present. Starring Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern, Vanessa Kirby, Zen McGrath, Hugh Quarshie, with Anthony Hopkins. This is a very tough film to watch. It's actually a cautionary tale, more about what not to do with your kids. ›››

Watch This: Vintage 80s Teaser Trailer for 'Firefox' Rescanned in 4K

Firefox 4K Teaser

Time for a blast from the past!! A brand new 4K rescan of the 35mm print for a teaser trailer from the 1980s has been uploaded to YT. The trailer is for a 1982 action techno-thriller called Firefox, produced, directed by and starring Clint Eastwood. The plot involves Eastwood being sent into the Soviet Union to steal a prototype fighter jet called "Firefox" that is so advanced it can't be detected on radar. It's set in Russia, but Cold War considerations made them use Vienna and other locations in Austria to double for many of the Eurasian story locations. This trailer is scanned by a cinephile named Denis-Carl Robidoux, from Montreal, who we featured once before earlier this year. He has been finding all these old 35mm and 16mm film reels and scanning them and putting them on YouTube - which is awesome because some of these trailers have been lost in time. It's only 30 secs but is more than enough. I really enjoy these old school teasers that didn't need footage to get you. I love the trippy 2001-esque visuals in this one, they'll definitely get your attention. ›››

Full UK Trailer for Dardenne Brothers' Immigrants Film 'Tori & Lokita'

Tori and Lokita Trailer

"Why won't they give me my papers, Tori?" Picturehouse in the UK has revealed an official trailer for an indie film from Belgium titled Tori and Lokita, the latest film from acclaimed Belgian filmmaking brothers Jean-Pierre & Luc Dardenne (aka the Dardenne Brothers). They're regulars at the Cannes Film Festival so of course this one premiered there earlier this year. It didn't get great reviews, it's a rather manipulative and obvious film pointing out how horrible African immigrants are treated by white Belgians. Set in Belgium today, a young boy and an adolescent girl who have traveled alone from Africa pit their invincible friendship against the cruel conditions of their exile. They work for a drug dealer who also moonlights as an Italian chef, and things get bad when Lokita tries to earn more money working in the depths of a grow warehouse. The film stars Pablo Schils and Joely Mbundu as the titular Tori and Lokita, with Alban Ukaj, Tijmen Govaerts, Charlotte De Bruyne, Nadège Ouedraogo, and Marc Zinga. This will be showing in UK cinemas this fall, but there's still no US release date set yet - stay tuned for updates. View the trailer below. ›››

Watch: Musical Tribute to Horror Film Victims - 'Live Forever' Short

Live Forever Short Film

"Why, why we all had to die… no one really cares." Why did they all have to die?! Whyyyyyy?? This wacky fun horror short is made by Swedish filmmaker Gustav Egerstedt and is now available online to watch - just in time for Halloween. Live Forever is a 3-minute musical tribute to horror film victims. It's poking fun at all the random people who get killed in horror movies for no good reason. Poor people, they didn't deserve to die. Live Forever is "a musical love letter and tribute to the poor victims in horror films that didn't make it to the sequel." In an anthemic song the dead unite across genres and time. Starring Sarah Giercksky, Fille Angele, Lilja Li Gille, Julia Dehnisch, Xindian Yan, Tomio Araki, and Laurence Zaccheus. This already won a bunch of awards at film festivals around the world, originally premiering in 2020. Most of the deaths in this film are specific references to actual horror films. "My life has gotten immeasurably better as a result of working with you. If it worked for me, maybe it will work with other people." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a documentary filmd titled Stutz, the next feature directed by American actor Jonah Hill (follow his debut Mid90s). This is a very personal film for Hill, not only discussing his own mental health struggles & experiences with therapy, but also examining the life of and mindset behind this famous psychiatrist. Meet Jonah Hill’s friend and therapist, Phil Stutz. Directed by Hill, this film invites you to explore Dr. Stutz's Tools for life in an effort to get real, get personal, and get better. A few months ago, Hill also announced he won't be don't any press or interviews for this film, because this is part of his process of stepping back from the anxiety and intensity of this world and simply promoting the film. This looks really wonderful. I'm personally quite curious to learn about his "Tools" and techniques, and hear about both of their stories. Looking forward to watching this one soon. Official Trailer for 90s Doc Series 'Pepsi, Where's My Jet?' on Netflix

Pepsi, Where's My Jet? Doc Series

"We're just kidding here!" Or are they? Make ’em pay! They can't get away with this BS. Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a documentary mini-series titled Pepsi, Where's My Jet?, debuting this November for streaming. It's another of these comedic yet fascinating look-back-at-the-crazy-90s doc series that the streaming services are churning out all the time now - also see Netflix's Trackwreck: Woodstock 99. Some of you may remember this original advertising campaign, as well as the story about the kid who "won" but never got his prize: a Harrier jet from Pepsi. In the 90s, Pepsi launched a marketing gimmick to compete with Coke that involved getting "Pepsi Points" to buy "Pepsi Stuff" everytime you bought cans of soda/pop. He came up with a scheme involving a crazy mountaineering friend to figure out how to buy, or use a loop hole, to get enough points. Of course, Pepsi freaked out and they went to court. This looks good, I just hope it's as brutally honest about how shady and shitty corporations are as this trailer promises. Fire it up below. ›››

First Trailer for Marvel's 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' Sequel

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

"It's a secret universe beneath ours." Marvel has revealed the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the third movie in the Ant-Man series in the MCU. This sequel is set to open in theaters in February 2023 early next year. Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne, along with Hope's parents Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne, go on a new adventure exploring the Quantum Realm. This sequel also introduces the next big bad Marvel villain - Kang, played by Jonathan Majors. A "time-traveling, multiversal adversary" who is an alternate-timeline variant of the character He Who Remains from first season of Loki. Majors says Kang is different from HWR with a shifted psychology, due to the different characters surrounding him. The full cast also includes Paul Rudd back as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton, and Randall Park. This looks pretty damn good so far, way more of a sci-fi mindf*ck than expected once they get into the Quantum Realm. And what is Kang up to down there? Hmm. ›››

Official Trailer for '1899' Series - Mystery Sci-Fi About a Ghost Ship

1899 Series Trailer

"None of this makes any sense…" Netflix has revealed an official trailer for 1899, a mysterious new sci-fi supernatural thriller series from the creators of the very popular "Dark" German sci-fi series on Netflix. Full of hope for a better future, passengers aboard a ship to the New World sail into a nightmare when they find a second vessel adrift on the open sea. On their journey across the vast and treacherous Atlantic Ocean, the passengers of the Kerberos encounter the biggest mystery of their lives. Welcome to 1899, an immersive new series from the creators of Dark. This seems like a story about the Bermuda Triangle, but they wouldn't pass through that region going to New York from Europe. Then again, triangles plays a big part in this, appearing everywhere including on tattoos and hidden messages and this weird switch board. Hmm. What is going on in this?! The massive international cast includes Emily Beecham, Aneurin Barnard, Andreas Pietschmann, Miguel Bernardeau, Maciej MusiaÅ‚, Anton Lesser, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Rosalie Craig. I'm more than curious, always love a good sci-fi mystery. Nice use of "All Along the Watchtower" in this trailer, too. Enjoy. ›››

'The Great Basin' Documentary Trailer About Lonely Folks in Nevada

The Great Basin Trailer

"You gotta really walk around to see… there's life out here." Circle Collective has released an official trailer for an indie documentary film titled The Great Basin, an observational film about the various people living and working in this very quiet, dusty region of Nevada. This originally premiered at the 2021 DOK Leipzig Festival last year. Director Chivas DeVinck "works his way up from the soil to the stars to find out what constitutes Nevada outside of Las Vegas. Milieus, places and people are intertwined in a collage. The magnetic core of the whole is the subterranean water from which everything seems to grow and for which everyone strives." Known as the "Loneliest Road in America," sits the Great Basin (see on Google Maps) in rural NV. While it is recognized as desolate land it's also seen as a microcosm of the economic, social, and ecological marginalization of 21st century rural communities. This film captures the tapestry of characters who work, live, and play in the region. It reminds me of the Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets film in many ways. ›››

Bad Trailer for Unnecessary Direct-to-Video Action Sequel 'R.I.P.D. 2'

R.I.P.D. 2 Trailer

"That was unexpected." Universal All-Access has revealed a short trailer for a direct-to-video sequel titled R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned. Yes, they decided to make a sequel to R.I.P.D., the wacky supernatural action movie from 2013 that ended up bombing when it opened (despite Jeff Bridges, Ryan Reynolds, and Kevin Bacon). Considering it took them almost 9 years to make this sequel, it seems to be a cash grab move for the studio, bringing back an existing IP for more "content" instead of making anything new. Like Back to the Future Part III, this sequel is set in the Old West in 1876. The Wild West has gone to Hell, literally, and the world's best hope of being saved lies in the gun-slinging hands of Sheriff Roy Pulsipher as he becomes the newest officer for the Rest In Peace Department enforcing the afterlife's laws. Jeffrey Donovan stars with Penelope Mitchell, Jake Choi, Richard Brake, and Kerry Knuppe. At least the trailer is free to watch, but it's pretty obvious no one should be wasting any of their money on this movie. Take a look below. ›››

"A powerful cry from the heart." Dedza Films + Willa Productions have unveiled an official US trailer for a French / Egyptian project titled You Resemble Me, an emotional drama about two sisters - marking the feature debut of filmmaker Dina Amer. This first premiered at the 2021 Venice Film Festival last year in the Critics' Week sidebar, and has played at many other fests, including at the 2022 Santa Barbara Film Festival earlier this year. When two young sisters are torn apart, the older one loses her identity and transforms into someone new in the name of belonging and resistance. "An insistence on lifting the veils and beginning the conversations that conceal our shared humanity." Starring Lorenza Grimaudo, Ilonna Grimaudo, Mouna Soualem, Sabrina Ouazani, and many others. Trailer for 'The Invaders' Doc About a 60s Memphis Black Power Group

The Invaders Doc Trailer

"They stood up for what was right." 1091 Pictures has debuted an official trailer for a documentary titled The Invaders, finally out on VOD this fall. The film originally premiered way back at the 2015 DOC NYC Film Festival, but has never been released since then or shown up anywhere else. The long wait is over. The Invaders follows the rise and fall of a militant black power group based in Memphis, TN in the late 1960s. The film uncovers the history and significance of the often-overlooked group, detailing their involvement with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the hours leading up to his assassination. The Invaders also touches on themes of race, government surveillance and economic injustice. Featuring interviews with key members, including Coby Smith, Charles Cabbage, John B. Smith, and John Gary Williams. Narrated by Nas, who also executive produces, with Yo Gotti, Craig Brewer, Peter Bittenbender, and filmmaker Sacha Jenkins. Why did it take so long for this to release? Looks great! Yet another empowering, inspiring story from America's past. ›››

A Women's Club Goes Rogue in Real Time Thriller 'Soft & Quiet' Trailer

Soft & Quiet Trailer

"We can't come on too strong, okay? Soft on the outside…" Momentum Pics has revealed a trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Soft & Quiet, which first premiered at the 2022 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. Apparently it's such a strong debut that Blumhouse picked it up at the festival to help distribute it, with a release set for this November. The film, which plays out in real time, follows a single afternoon in the life of an elementary school teacher as she organizes a mixer of like-minded women. When the group heads home to "keep the wine flowing", the teacher encounters a woman from her past at the local store, leading to a volatile chain of events. Uh oh. The ensemble cast features Stefanie Estes, Olivia Luccardi, Eleanore Pienta, Dana Millican, & Melissa Paulo, with Jon Beavers, Cissy Ly, Nina E. Jordan, & Rebekah Wiggins. This starts out all nice and lovely, but gets totally crazy at the end. WTF happened?! Super scary. ›››

Take a Trip Back to the 1970s with Hippies in 'Jesus Revolution' Trailer

Jesus Revolution Trailer

"There is an entire generation searching… just in all the wrong places." Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for an indie film titled Jesus Revolution, set in the 1970s based on real events. This is opening in theaters nationwide in February, which means they're hopeful it will find a big audience. The film tells the true story of a national spiritual awakening in the late 60s / early 70s and its origins within a community of teenage hippies from Southern California. This is about a divided moment in US history when people came together by checking their preconceptions at the door – and formed a movement by listening to each other, looking beyond their own beliefs. This revival of radical and newfound love led to what TIME Magazine, in 1971, dubbed a "Jesus Revolution." Has it all been forgotten since then? The film stars Joel Courtney as Greg, Anna Grace Barlow, Jonathan Roumie, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, and Kelsey Grammer. This looks like an uplifting story to tell, though I'm not sure religion will bring anyone together nowadays. ›››

Trailer for Goofy Action Comedy 'Office Games' with Jodelle Ferland

Office Games Trailer

"All this gaming has prepared me to save my real life princess." Quiver has revealed an official trailer for a nerdy action comedy film titled Office Games, made by actor / director Christian de la Cortina. This is one of the most obvious Scott Pilgrim vs the World rip-offs so far, with gaming visuals added to the footage as a guy tries to rescue his true love. Or whatever. The only difference is it's set inside a gaming company's office, not on the streets of Toronto like Scott Pilgrim. When an obsessive gamer living in his parents' basement is forced to get a job, he embarks on the most epic quest of his life - to slay the corporate villains and save his princess. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Trailer

"Now is our time to strike!" Only a few more weeks to go until this opens. Marvel has debuted an extended 45-second TV spot for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the highly anticipated superhero landing in theaters on November 11th. The most recent main trailer debuted a few weeks back, promising an exciting follow-up with Wakandans going up against Namor and the Atlanteans. The ensemble cast for this one Letitia Wright as Shuri, Lupita Nyong'o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Winston Duke as M'Baku, Florence Kasumba as Ayo, Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, Michaela Coel as Aneka, Tenoch Huerta as Namor of Atlantis, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Scary Trailer for Yacht Horror 'Presence' Starring Jenna Lyng Adams

Olga Kurylenko & Yoon Yeon-Seok Together in 'The Vanished' Trailer

The Vanished Trailer

"Someone kidnapped a girl and her blood type is B-." Signature Ent. in the UK has revealed their official trailer for a tech thriller titled The Vanished, which is a French film from a French filmmaker set in South Korea featuring a cast of mostly Korean actors as well as Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko. How's that for a pitch? Alice Launey, a French forensic expert still haunted by her past, comes to Seoul to present her work. She will meet Jin-Ho, a detective who asks for her help on an odd murder case. Drawn into network trafficking, she needs to face her fears with the detective, while fleeing international criminal gangs as they fight to stay alive and reveal the truth. Kurylenko stars with Yoo Yeon-Seok, Ji-won Ye, Moo-Seong Choi, and Seung-Jun Lee. This actually doesn't look so bad - a European thriller mixed with a Korean detective story. Not sure why it has no US release set despite premiering at last year's Busan Film Festival. ›››

Sam & Kate Trailer

"Been a long time since I've been out like this." Vertical Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for a family comedy titled Sam & Kate, opening in select theaters this November. Described as a "life-affirming family dramedy" starring Oscar winners Dustin Hoffman and Sissy Spacek - truly a family affair, art imitates life with the father / son casting of Dustin & Jake Hoffman and the mother / daughter casting of Sissy & Schuyler Fisk. When Sam (the younger Hoffman) returns to his small town to care for his ailing father, he soon finds himself falling for a local woman, Kate. Simultaneously, his father begins finding love with Kate's mother. But both couples must confront their past in order to make their new love work for the future. The cast also includes Henry Thomas, Tyler Labine, Elizabeth Faith Ludlow, Dylan McNamara, and Elizabeth Becka. This looks sweet and fun, but also a film you'll forget as soon as it's over. Will These Friendships Survive in Horror 'The Friendship Game' Trailer

The Friendship Game Trailer

"If your friendships don't survive the game, neither do you." RLJE Films has revealed an official trailer for The Friendship Game, a horror thriller from Canadian filmmaker Scooter Corkle. A group of teenagers in a small town discover a strange metal object that tests the resilience of their friendship. When one of the best friends goes missing after playing the game, our characters are forced to look inward, mostly through the eyes of our lead character Zooza as she wrestles with her fear of abandonment and resentment of her absent father. She must confront the monster within or no one will survive the game. Sounds freaky! This stars Peyton List, Brendan Meyer, Kelcey Mawema, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, and Dylan Schombing. I dig the cool Hellraiser-esque game object in this, but the rest of it looks like a super obvious and campy story about growing up and friends and trauma. Can't really tell if this will be any good. Alessandro Gassmann Gets Revenge in 'My Name Is Vendetta' Trailer

My Name Is Vendetta Trailer

"He's not the kind of man who runs away." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for an Italian film titled My Name is Vendetta, arriving for streaming at the end of November. This pretty much looks like Italy's version of Taken or John Wick, about a father who is apparently a former enforcer and never told his family – until they're killed. A fast-paced action, survival and revenge film set in Northern Italy in a quiet town in Südtirol. When enemies from the past kill his wife and brother-in-law, the mafia enforcer and his daughter flee to Milan to plot their revenge. Starring Alessandro Gassmann and Ginevra Francesconi as the father and daughter, Santo and Sofia, who train together to take down the people who came after them. The cast also includes Remo Girone, Gabriele Falsetta, Alessio Praticò, Marcello Mazzarella, & Sinja Dieks. This looks like a very generic revenge story, but it also seems kind of badass. Second Trailer for Germany's Riveting 'All Quiet on the Western Front'

All Quiet on the Western Front Trailer

"My mother didn't want me to go to war. I wanted to show them I could do it." Netflix has debuted another main official trailer for All Quiet on the Western Front, a brand new German adaptation of the classic book about the atrocities of World War I. The film already opened in theaters in Germany and in the US a few weeks ago - and will be streaming on Netflix soon. A young German soldier's terrifying experiences and distress on the western front during World War I. He heads off with excitement and enthusiasm, only to be sent straight into hell. Based on Erich Maria Remarque's novel published in 1928. The book was famously originally adapted for the big screen in 1930 by director Lewis Milestone, and again by the UK in 1979 with director Delbert Mann. This new film is also Germany’s official submission for the 2023 Academy Awards. This one stars Felix Kammerer, Albrecht Schuch, Aaron Hilmer, Moritz Klaus, Edin Hasanovic, Adrian Grünewald, Thibault De Montalembert, with Daniel Brühl, and Devid Striesow. The film is a haunting, and terrifying, look at just how awful war is and how it destroys many lives for no real reason. ›››
