Watch: Visit a Flooded Kolkata in Animated Short 'Wade' from India

Here's a unique short film from India that we're glad to post on FS made by an animation studio known as Ghost Animation. "A climate change horror story" is the film's simple tagline. Wade is a mesmerizing 15-minute animated short film that is now available to watch online. This initially premiered in 2019 and it played at the 2020 Annecy Film Festival, as well as numerous other fests worldwide recently. In an alternate "post-apocalyptic" version of Kolkata, India, rendered unbearable due to the rising sea level, things take a dark turn when a family of climate change refugees are ambushed by a pack of tigers on the flooded streets. It is described as "an award-winning post-apocalyptic action animated short that grapples with what the world will look like in the wake of climate change." There's so many interesting creative decisions with this short - not only in regards to the climate change storytelling focusing on this kind of bleak future, but other tiny details like making the eyes so big and white, and drawing such humongous tigers. Tahar Rahim & Virginie Efira in 'Don Juan' Trailer - Playing in Cannes

"What remains of his loves, what remains of his good days?" MK2 and ARP Sélection have revealed the first official trailer for Don Juan, a new French film from actor / filmmaker Serge Bozon. It is premiering at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival in the main Cannes Première section, as a centerpiece highlight of the fest even though it's not in competition. Not to be confused with Joseph Gordon-Levitt's other Don Jon film from 2013 (which is really worth a watch). Tahar Rahim (a Cannes regular) stars Laurent, who is jilted on his wedding day and subsequently embarks upon a wild quest for pleasure. However, none are lured by his singing. All the while, he is preparing to star in a play where they end up casting his ex-fiancée in the role opposite of him. Also co-starring Virginie Efira and Alain Chamfort. This hasn't hit any festivals yet, and will be playing this summer to watch. The film tells true story of how one desperate man, armed with only his charm and wits, takes on a racist San Francisco corporation in 1971. Mike Colter stars as Charlie Walker, who runs a small construction and trucking business. When two oil tankers collide off of the coast, unleashing millions of gallons of oil and spawning an immense environmental disaster, he tries his best to help clean up the coastline. The film also stars Dylan Baker, Safiya Fredericks, Mark Leslie Ford, Monica Barbaro, Steven Wiig, Emma Caulfield Ford, and Carl Lumbly. This definitely looks like a low budget film, but they made the most of it anyway and let Colter rock this with a badass performance. It seems like a good story from the 70s to tell. ›››

It's time to journey back to Middle-Earth again. This is an exceptional animated film made by an animator / filmmaker named Eddie Sharam. He decided to challenge himself by creating an animated version of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring, and pack the entire story into 2 & 1/2 minutes. Not only does he pull it off, without any dialogue (which is a massive achievement in its own right), all of the animation is stunning, too. Everyone knows the classic Rankin/Bass animated version of The Hobbit/LOTR, which is the only other official Hobbit movie. Sharam has managed to come up with his own entirely unique look and feel, while still maintaining the unforgettable magic and glory of the classic Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings movies. Beware of drones. They will always outsmart humans. Sentry is an impressive under-3-minutes short film made by filmmaker Ryan Connolly, created for "Film Riot" run by the Connolly Brothers. It's another fine example of just how much can fit in 2 minutes of footage - introducing characters in a sci-fi world, letting action play out quickly. There's a lot going on in this and it's worth a watch. This is good enough to play as a "Black Mirror" opener. Sentry stars Josh Connolly and Justin Robinson. One is on the other side of the war than the other in this dystopian world. This could be called a proof-of-concept, but it's just an engaging micro short with some excellent VFX on top of it all. "We're representing the United States of America… Who are we?" Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed an official trailer for an indie film titled Foxhole, the second feature from filmmaker / actor / composer Jack Fessenden. This premiered at a few small film festivals last fall, and will be out on VOD in the US this May. Unfolding over 36 hours in three different wars - the American Civil War, World War I, and Iraq. Foxhole follows a small group of soldiers who are confronted in a confined space with questions of their morality, the futility of their actions, and an increasingly unpredictable combat situation. Description from one of the fests: "There is no war, there is no patriotic goal, not even orientation in the most elementary sense. All there is, is a foxhole, a wall of fog and a desperate will not to die." This stars Motell Gyn Foster, Alex Hurt, Cody Kostro, Angus O'Brien, James Le Gros, Andi Matichak, Alex Breaux, Asa Spurlock. Freaky First Teaser for Totally Insane Livestream Horror 'Dashcam'

"You should go see if she's alive." Momentum Pictures has revealed a teaser trailer for this totally crazy new horror film titled Dashcam, the latest from innovative genre filmmaker Rob Savage - who broke out with his Zoom horror Host during the pandemic in 2020 (along with his awesome 2-minute short Salt). This one is a found footage / livestream format horror film starring Annie Hardy as "herself" - she goes back home to London and gets caught up in some strange happenings there. Two friends on a horror-fueled road trip livestream the most terrifying night of their lives. The cast also includes Amar Chadha-Patel as Stretch, Angela Enahoro as Angela, and Seylan Baxter as Seylan. The horror film received completely polarizing reviews at TIFF - some hated it, and some loved it, but it gets so full-on insane in the second half it's worth seeing just for that "holy shit!" experience.
